I feel like this would be avoided if we taught about propaganda in schools here in the US, I did my own research after a John Oliver video a few years ago. I haven't heard this discussed anywhere yet, but I see the political rhetoric here in the US mimic Soviet propaganda in a very eerie way. Thanks for confirming that I'm not crazy, and drawing conclusions that are crazy!
This was such an important conversation, as an American who has been dealing with the frustrated right wing extreme as a healthcare worker. This was SO ON POINT and it’s the actual source of horseshoe theory being true. Thank you both!
I love how passionate the conversation went at some point 🤩
Дуже гарно 😍😍😍 Дякую за гостю . Все буде Україна 💙💛💙💛💙💛
The best discussion on this channel so far! Made me think a lot and try to understand where people joining fringe groups are actually coming from. They are not that different in their intentions from me (who values freedom on honesty) - just in the wrong places.
Дуже гарно 😍😍😍 Дякую за підтримку України 💙💛💙💛💙💛
Thank you for your great work guys
Guys, I feel like the topics you initiate for a very long time have been neglected within politicians, academics, researchers, think-tanks etc. Always interesting listening to Melania. Thanks!
Thank you! Your conversations with Melaniya are amazing, as always
Fantastic, fantastic conversation. I so appreciate the passion you both convey!
Paul, I just love your energy
This is my favorite guest! Love to have coffee with you two. Would be so interesting.
29:33 incredibly astute observation-“people move to the fringes because the fringes SEEM more free”!
Thanks for your open discussion and you two are a very good couple
Great video, was good to see that at least some people see modern political system in America as it truly is.
Thank you !!!
Thank you guys for these deep discussions. Keep ‘em going 🙌🏻
Term limits of 4-6 years and a realistic salary cap for all United States politicians. It is an honor to represent the People in US Democracy, not a means for the rich to get richer. If one cannot see the invaluable gift that Ukraine is giving the world through unfathomable suffering, torture, and death then I have no time and little respect for such closed mindedness. I like the energy I see in the younger generations, keep up the great work Paul and Melaniya!

Excelent comment. My comment also touches on income and wealth inequality. Many rich people and politicians become entitled because of their success. They seem to think that they deserve more than other people because they are smarter. They easily forget that their success was possible because of the free country they live in and the chances they were given.
Слава Україні! 🤟

Brilliant brilliant, thank you .
Money and greed have reigned USA for too long, according to Thomas Seltzer, a norwegian/american journalist. He says his childhood America is destroyed. He has made a TV-series (UXA)about it (NRK the Norwegian Broadcasting company). A very interesting program.
And else thanks for your discussions, I follow you eagerly 👍❤
The american dream is distroyed, mr. Seltzer says in his documentary about usa
I love these episodes, thank you!!
Дякую за підтримку
Always a great listen!
You are both sharp as hell, thank you for opening perspectives. One point: the people on top are on top becasuse of hypocrisy and ability to show off. That is not coincidence that people like Schroeder, Merkel, Bush, Obama, Macron etc are/were leaders. Our societies were promoting them.
Supporting comment. Love this part of the channel
I’m a Progressive and I fully support Ukraine 🇺🇦 from a human rights perspective. I heard all the NATO expansion arguments and how empty they were after Russia’s actions in Ukraine 🇺🇦. Historians Timothy Snyder and Stephen Kotkin helped clarify the situation. I’m a Progressive because I support universal healthcare, a moderate position in Europe.

I enjoyed the whole show but that last segment was absolute gold!
Paul, thank you for supporting Ukraine 🇺🇦
Melania again - I'm not surprised 😁
Agree, but what about people with Trump! 😂 I saw people change a lifetime position to go against Trump! Let’s hear these same arguments on both sides. I don’t support Biden, however I am his biggest cheerleader with Ukraine. I don’t change my opinions based on party. Both parties have things I agree with, regardless of which political side they are on. I also agree that you can tell what kind of human a person is by their stance of Ukraine. I can’t even be around people who spew hate about Ukraine. I’ve blocked all sights that do that. Actually makes my stomach stir.
Back in the US - SR?
Informative (and charming) video - thanks guys!
Drinking game, take a shot each time Melania says “you know” and you actually know that. Cheers 🥃
Hi fr Germany, nice talk guys. 56:50 For Merkel (who i never voted for) i like to insure you, she is zero corrupt. Not even the far right/left did ever claim that. Merkel always focused on GER business model which heavily relies on cheap gas/oil. At the same time she was a firm believer in "Wandel durch Handel" (strong economic ties prevent wars). As a chancellor she was always more a mediator than a fighting leader. As leader of one of the economically strongest EU countries her word had weight on the international stage. Foreign observers sometimes only saw that image of her as that strong leader while at heart she was a mediator and sometimes just meddling thru. For many years her nickname in GER was "mummy Merkel" for a good reason.
Great free-ranging stream-of-consciousness discussion that somehow seemed to go in a distinct direction. As you point out, I have been noticing in the background the elites, unquestioning doctrine and implacable resistance to change for some time now, but have not been putting it together the way you just did. Perhaps my attention was fixed on Brussels, Schröder, Merkel, Macron, et al., without seeing the US parallel, plus the MAGA/Fox shit show at home. I have two supplemental observations. First, the current predicament has some eerie parallels to the period leading up to the Viet Nam war, which I experienced. Unquestioning doctrine, co-option of news media, government stonewalling at all levels. This ultimately precipitated open defiance of norms, massive demonstrations and the Kent State shooting. After this, things seemed to open up a bit until Ronald Reagan and the eighties. Unfortunately, even in hallowed university campuses, MBAs became a thing. The other observation is the total lack of integrity, of present-day national news media, even those who have not yet openly gone to the dark side. Daily "reporting" is a facade. I subscribe to a news service that streams content from multiple news organizations. It is amazing how many stories keep getting repeated days on end, from different sources perhaps, but essentially the same story over and over. Moreover, the headline, the condensed preview and the lead sentence of the story are frequently IDENTICAL. After that there are a few generalizations with out any evidence or support, and then endless "background" lifted from prior stories on the same subject. The most important feature apparently is the headline itself. It's all about eyeballs, clicks and moving product for the sake of generating ad revenue. There is no THERE there. Perhaps this is nothing new. Remember "yellow journalism" in prior centuries, and the days of getting highly curated news from only three national networks, which was perhaps no better. But I think this is a big piece of the puzzle and part of the lack of accountability for elites and persistence of unquestionable doctrine. Thank goodness for You Tube, even with their weird demonetization policies.
100%
Love your synergy. But why it’s not “Paul & Melaniya” or “Massaro & Podolyak”?

As an eastern european I'm so dissapointed of the ugly way that the land of our dreams--USA's transforming due the continous subtle ruSSia's influence...
Yes, as a person who was born in Ukraine and has vast experience of communicating with people with a Soviet way of thinking, I will say that I see many alarming red flags that USA is slowly turning into USSR.
The USSR wasn't communist at all. It was actually a quasi-feudalist system with party apparatchiks replacing regional lords and dukes and the crony politburo replacing the royal court.
Everything flowed up, luxury for the elites, misery, starvation or if they were lucky cabbage soup for everyone else.
America is a late stage oligarchy with massive wealth concentrated at the top, which is about the only similarity to the USSR.
Freedom of speech is actually outnof control in the USA. The idea that famous bigots are being silenced is ridiculous and just their self-pitying whinging because people have called them out for being an asshole.
Oh I also flipped when they talked about Merkel. She frustrates me so much.
My observation to what is happening to America is called Infantilism. It will take hardship to grow up.
Paul should never have set up the trap for Melaniya to answer. She had 3 choices: say the derailment was less important than UA trip, more important, or just as important. There is a sour side for her and UA to any position on that.
I'm a simple man: I see Melaniya - I press "like".
Videos with Melania are getting longer and longer. 😆
Extremely interesting. In the middle part, I would have liked if you talked about Bernie Sanders (vs. Hillary) ~6 years ago. (Have to admit, I have no clue about his position on Ukraine, since I am German). I am pretty sure Bernie would have defeated Trump where Hillary lost (due to her own making).
Great topic but it's a sad one for the USA. The former congressman from Illinois, Joe Walsh, summed up the problem with the current Republican party (Trumpism) in a recent podcast very well. The Trumpism Republican party will do anything and listen to any potential leader or news host who pushes a pro-white race theory. He said they want to 1950s back and are so afraid of the future of the country becoming too diverse and full of non-white races. They are afraid of change and can see the white race becoming a minority. It all started when President Obama was elected.
I'm a 58-year-old, German American who has been a Republican since the age of 18 and I'm disgusted with the current party. I don't foresee the traditional party coming back in the balance of my life and that's sad. I have friends who watch Tucker Carlson and freely drink his Kool-aid. Fox News is not news but basically opinions. If you study Russian Propaganda, you'll see the correlation between what Fox News and Trumpism spews out. Trump and Ron Desantis are want-to-be dictators and that's what they try to become. My question to anyone wanting these types of leaders is: "What benefit will you have in electing one of these types of leaders?" Ask the former German citizens how allowing Nazi Hitler to lead helped the German nation after WWII. People need to think independently instead of picking right or left. Let's work together and do what's right for our nation. Remember that "We the People" are really in charge of the country.
Sadly I have family and friends too that enthusiastically support the want-to-be dictators and watch Fox News faithfully. I do think you hit the nail on the head about the need for these people to think independently (they usually gather in groups to validate each other) Haven’t yet figured out how to get them to think about what they are doing. I even tried to quote my favorite verses in the Bible since so many are dedicated Christians…Proverbs 6 16-19.
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Hope they come around some day. Best regards to you!
I guess my question for your next discussion is, “How do you turn, ‘political will,’ into a manifesto?” How do you express it in such a way that it shows up in your written political documents, so people can point to it and measure success or failure of their actual process by it? What words do you sloganise political will with? How do you sell it on a campaign trail and then stand by it in office, with a clear, measurable point in your documentation that people can say, “You are / or are not doing this thing that you promised us?”
The insights you’re sharing about, “this crap,” where people’s excuses are so transparent, their explanations so obtuse and their lack of imagination so frustrating strike me as touching the point with a needle. I’m looking forward to the follow up discussion.
While I agree that Duda has been great with regards to the current Ukraine situation, he is not exactly a shining example of democratic governance. One can only hope that being such an active defender of western values in Ukraine, will lead him to reflect that some of his own stances on LGBT rights and the separation of powers within the state have been veering into the same direction as Putin, whose policies he rightly denounces.
Good conversation. Have you considered inviting Timothy Snyder?
We need to have respect for each head of a significant portfolio. The head of transportation in the US has a big job and he was involved immediately. Republicans are the first to scream about micromanaging but essentially think the president has to check up on the Transport minister. So which is it? Independence or micromanaging?
English is not your first language, comrade.
The beard is looking powerful, Paul.
Long beards remind me of the taliban
Is the younger generation more inclined to confront Russia and China then the older generation that made those mistakes? I graduated college in 1993 and I freely admit I was like this is great! We no longer need to spend all this money on defense and people realize socialism is horrible policy and people realize limited government is better than one that tramples individual rights like free speech etc. But now it seems my generation and older can shift and realize that is not the case. It seems it is the younger people who are sympathetic to socialism and government control and resistant to understanding we are still in a Cold War. The polling I have seen makes me think that. But maybe I am missing something.
Who is Melania?
Paul, you can find a better person for a stream :)

Doing great job. Should not worry about those 10%-5% of marginals, they will never change. But mud needs to be cleared constantly, even most obvious things needs to be repeated again and again to western viewers: Ukraine is fighting for its own survival but ALSO for all free world. Period. New world order is being casted in Ukraine as we speak.
This is a sad topic. I have to not listen to both extremes. I am not a fan of Biden At All. But I am very, very proud that my president went to Ukraine! This is one issue all sides should agree upon.
me too. I’m not a fan of Biden or his administration, they seem incompetent honestly and I think are hanging on by a thread, But they are also trying to do better, especially for Ukraine.
This was a great conversation. So when a libertarian claims they can't implement their solution to homelessness, or implement their environmental protections and transportation regulations, because too much money is being sent to Ukraine, they are not being sincere? There are so many bad faith arguments, but at least most are blatantly obviously bad. 🇺🇦
The main problem, I guess, is that they are not libertarian in their deeds/views/attitude. One can call oneself or others literally anything but the deeds speak a lot more.
!
16:58 / 59:32 "McConnell is doing a good job as a politician and as a leader." Says Ukraine must win as part of US National security.
Versus some who think bashing my political opponent is more important than unity in US security... or Ukraine war including genocide
48:30 / 59:32 political will; what is it? how do you get it? A president needs it. You have to put in a lot of effort to build political will.
Hardest thing for politicians to do is admit you made a mistake. Tension of the hypocrisy.

Speaking of domestic and foreign policies.

domestically, not really.. misunderstood freedoms and a lot of populism...
In Europe the policies are good but poorly applied, many countries and unresolved historical baggage, especially in the east.. where the old people still sigh after the communist period... Great show Paul

Unfortunately Duda is not as democracy friendly as you would like, he's more a wannabe Orban kind of guy
It reminds me of Trump times, when left leaning people (including Biden's party) would vilified everything Trump.
