I’ve never had an underbite or misalignment growing up until I was 28-29 when I started to notice my bite started to shift and now I’m 30 and have an underbite. Went to multiple orthodontists and they said it could only be fixed with jaw surgery for best results. I went to another and he said it doesn’t need jaw surgery because it was overkill but extractions of my lower bicuspids would be enough. I went with him and it has been 6 months since I started treatment and he said by my next visit I should be ready for extraditions. I have been feeling off about extracting perfectly healthy teeth. I don’t want to extract my teeth anymore because there has to be a way for me to fix my teeth without compromising. Like I said earlier I have never had an underbite, it just suddenly appeared in my late twenties. I hope there’s an answer for this because every orthodontist that has seen my pictures of my smile from 2018-2019 compared to now are confused and couldn’t tell me why I have suddenly developed an underbite
Please help me in fixing my sudden underbite and understanding why and how it happened in the first place

I think your bite become misaligned because of your wisdom tooth that grow when you hit your 20s, taken the spaces that it doesn't used to when you're below 10-20s

@@pwat6311Right, that’s also a possibility but another could be that sometimes the teeth flair out for whatever reason, so maybe his lower teeth flaired out and the top in due to bad eating or any sort of bad habit, or maybe it’s just bad jaw posture.

Hello. If you are still out there here is info. I had(have) same problem. and mine underbite was caused by overdoing chin tuck exercise. Repetition trauma and doing exercise that push jaw downwards, my jaw bones/joint slided downwards and went out of it's original pose. Hence i got underbite. Same similar thing happen to most of people, unconsciously doing physical things that makes jaw joints out of place .Some are born with huge or displaced jaw. But in vast majority of cases it's just displaced jaw downwards caused by physical factors.
It needs to be put back into position, which is not easy at all but attainable. Surgery is absolute unacceptable for this. It will just mask some of problem and not worth it. My condition was very bad, from good looking jawline to protruded, overlonged.. Teeth were grinding all time and hard to speak. Fixed 50% of problem so far. Out of everything i tried, only two types of exercises gave me results. First is, slowly opening your mouth gradually to almost maximum you can, all while pushing back lower jaw all the time. I had unimaginable pains while doing this at the start, because my jaw was growth tissue like that. After some time i managed to fully open my mouth while pushing lower jaw back without serious pain. The next part is, after you mobilize jaw (the exercise i mentioned), is just pushing your jaw backwards all the time. You do it while closed mouth. I still got it but not as nearly as bad. And i had it for a year prior to this!
So , the conclusion is, you have to physically put it into place. How exactly? Im not entirely sure. I havent fully fixed but i had good results. Also, if you are in America, there is FaceliftDentistry Jawtrack by Doctor Muslin (google it). By all the reviews, i see his method works 99% cases and he practically design plastic jaw shape that you bite and make your jaw realign similar way to exercising. It's all about exercise and pushing it back into place. The rest of journey we will have to find by ourself, but i dont find anyone got this fixed the good way with surgery

What I’m DYING TO KNOW!!! Is how does wearing rubber bands help keep your bite stay like that? Does the jaw just get used to staying there? Or how!!!! I haven’t seen a video that explains that at all!

If you wear the elastics for an extended amount of time the teeth move into that position. The jaws and bones of the mouth don’t move, but the teeth will move within the bone.
      Hope that makes sense 👍

Hi there, I would like to find out if braces will still be an option. I have an underbite, my lower teeth are straight, my upper 4 incisors are screw going a bit inwards. If I align my back teeth my lower teeth extend 3-4mm from my upper. Will jaw correction surgery be needed? I was told by my dentist when I was younger braces would fix it, but now being 21 years of age will it affect my chances.

I have a child that's 14 turning 15 in July and has been wearing braces since January but sadly has an severe overjet. Since jaw surgery is expensive we've been considering on an extraction of her teeth but I feel wary about the expenses and of result of it. That's why we're thinking of elastics but we don't know for sure if it'll work.

My daughter is 17 now. She had headgear age 10-11. Underbite cane back again orthos are saying two upper and two lower extractions. We are very hesitant for extractions as it might cause issues later in her life like sunken cheeks or droopy chin or other teeth issues. Also if we get that treated now at age 17 with braces and extractions is it possible underbite can come back in her 20s or 30s? Please reply thanks

Do I have an underbite? When my lower jaw is relaxed, my lower teeth protrude out in front of upper teeth. When I speak I notice again lower teeth stick out farther than upper teeth. I can physically force lower teeth behind upper teeth to form a proper bite but it’s not comfortable and when I chew it’s wearing the back of my front teeth out. It effects my speech because there’s tension when I force my lower teeth behind my upper teeth for proper enunciation. Do I have an underbite? The fact that “I can” attain a proper bite with effort eliminate possibility of underbite and it’s something else? Thank you!

It definitely seems like you do. I’m not a orthodontist or dentist, so next time you go see your dentist you should probably just ask them. Because depending on your age, if your still growing the problem will only get worse.

Can a fixed under-bite return. Say you have your treatment and all is well after but your retainers usually do not come with bands, is it possible for the under-bite to return or do your corrected teeth prevent that?
