  • The Barca Breakdown discussed the third victory in a row under the full throttle Xavi ball. Barca met Athletic Bilbao at the Camp Nou, who knocked us out of the Copa Del Rey. Barca were also 2 games in hand and 4 points behind Betis on the table. Needless to say, this game was extremely important as Barca haven't been able to take advantage of these kinds of situations in recent history. Notable players on the pitch were Dest in place of Alba, Dani Alves as right back, and Gavi in for FDJ with Busquets and Pedri.
Nonetheless, Barca came out dominating possession and pressing high in Bilbao's side of the pitch. Traore was able to win a corner around the 35'. The corner comes in and Pique headers the ball off the post. Luckily, Aubameyang was in a perfect position to put the shot away. Barca take the lead and the half ends 1-0. Barca continued to play a wonderfully defensive game which kept Bilbao at bay.
The game really took off offensively when Ousmane Dembele came onto the pitch with Frenkie De Jong. Not soon after Dembele puts one away with his left foot. Then Luuk De Jong and Memphis came onto the pitch. Moments later, Dembele crosses the ball and LDJ headers it, 3-0! To completely destroy Bilbao, Dembele crosses again and Depay slides in to make it 4-0.
This Put Barca 1 point behind Betis with a game in hand. Barca are rising and there's plenty of room to keep climbing!

The foundation that xavi setup for the current squad now... It makes me hype and super excited for every upcoming match. So eager to see what will be their performance and their magical display. Owh man... Its like watching barca during the rise of messi era but with no messi lol....
As for ferran, i see him as a non natural no.9 but his positioning and 1 touch during counter does make a different. I agree the point that he might need a rest to loosen up his frustration. He got potential but maybe he need to be a little bit of patient. Hopefully he can get some good lesson from veteran like Auba which we saw a couple of time was making way and opening to allow ferran to get the ball behind of the net but still no success.
As for dembele.... I give the credit for his professionalism and credit for xavi to be able to transform the hatred by fans towards dembele (including myself lol) and present us the best version of dembele should be. Hopefully, with xavi effect, dembele might reconsider his contract and his position in the club and the prospect of staying in barca rather then following his agent advice.

@@FootieFanatic I'm looking forward for the new defender lineup for the upcoming transfer window. With how xavi is taking charge as the way it is, i believe he know what quality player shall he pick, either from the academy or from other club. Alves, alba, busquest and even stegen need a replacement sooner or later and hopefully the transition went smooth.
With the fast tempo and high intensity of the game that xavi brought to the squad, we surely need a handful of player for rotation especially to retain the energy and keep up the momentum.
