    It's beautiful, Amy Beth! I learned to crochet 55 yrs ago when I was 11. Then I learned to knit 12 yrs ago. Pretty much knitted everything since I learned how. Then around 5 yrs ago I began making prayer shawls for charity and gradually got back into crocheting. Ever since, I keep knitting and crochet projects going all the time. Since crochet was something I learned as a child, it seems faster than knitting to me. Also, I have arthritis in my fingers now, so going back and forth between knitting and crochet seems to help the stiffness in my hands. I will check out the sweater pattern and may give it a try! Yours is so pretty!

    crochet--- chains then turn and double crochet across that's Foundation double crochet. I LOVE "COMFY COZY CARDIGAN" is my favorite by far. It can be adjusted yo all sizes even children, I did. The size chart is x-small to 5x I believe. Her channel is YAY FOR YARN. It's so easy to follow It let me feel that I could accomplish it and I did.

    It’s an adorable pattern. Just the fact that it has constant color changes would suggest that it’s not a beginner crochet pattern. The designer probably should mention that it’s advanced beginner, intermediate. It does state that it’s in UK terms. Don’t feel bad, Ivebeen crocheting a half a century and only learned about UK terms in the last 5 years or so. I guess it’s mentioned more now that it’s not unusual to purchase patterns or crochet magazines with designs from the UK. The lackof a clear crocheting level one needs to complete a pattern without major frustration is a pet peeve of mine. I have a favorite website that has amazing free crochet patterns from Norway. I’ve written to them asking that they label the level of experience needed to complete their patterns frustration free. I never heard back from them. Anyway, I’m sorry you had that experience. Your cardi is lovely and super cozy looking! Don’t give up, you’re definitely capable and talented. If you want some you tube channels that I’ve used and know they have patterns that range from beginner to experienced, just let me know. Thanks.

    After all that work in a craft that you are less familiar with I am glad you love it. I have to say the style and the colors are very flattering to you. I am amazed at how your brain works to make projects work for you, your skills and body type. I am a great crafter but don't have that ability to make patterns my own. Great job!

  • @stitcht78
    @stitcht78 Před 3 lety

    Your cardi is super cute! I think the stitch is actually a US double crochet (DC) or a UK treble. One way to tell if your pattern is US or UK terms is if there is a single crochet (SC) it's US. I'm exclusively a crocheter so this is really interesting to me. It all seems so easy to me making a sweater where as a knitted sweater for me would be Greek. Lol!

    Hi from Ontario in Canada. Amy Beth, your crocheted cardigan turned out great. Looks real good on you. I had to chuckle when you mentioned all those bits left after weaving in the ends. I have a large zip lock bag that I put left over yarn in. There was a hint from Arne and Carlos in Norway....to keep your yarn bits and when you have enough, card them together to use as stuffing for little knitted ornaments. Good idea, right?

  • @laurelgirard8475
    @laurelgirard8475 Před 2 lety

    I’m confused. If you did ribbing on the bottom, you wouldn’t have a long chain. That was clever to come up with a crochet cast on. Invention is the daughter of necessity!! Don’t worry about not doing the traditional method. A way to decrease without actually decreasing is to go down a size in your crochet hook. It also works in reverse, just switch hooks to a larger size. Voila! It looks great. No one ever looks at individual stitches. You do the same I crochet. Join the yarn on the bottom of the underarm. This is where you change the hook out for a smaller size. Complete a single crochet in each stitch around, then do a double crochet in each stitch . If it is not small enough, do 2 double crochet decreases evenly spaced out. Then do a few rows to see the sizing. You can repeat this if needed. Don’t do more than 2 or 3 decreases in a row because it will decrease too fast. (A double crochet decrease …. Start a double crochet yo. Pull through, yo pull through 2, now leave it unfinished and go to the next stitch and repeat (yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2, yo, pull thru all 3 loops). That is also called Dcdec. I hope this helped. Sorry if I went on and on.

    @beckybramlett3515 Před 3 lety +2

    I love that sweater !! It looks beautiful on you !! You have to take into consideration what type pattern you’re using. If the pattern called for one dc in each stitch instead of 3 ,it would’ve been lighter ( I think). There is no chain foundation and you may be able to find videos on that and possibly use that on other projects . Regardless of what I’ve said,you did very good in your first attempt ( my first attempt ,I frogged....terrible !😂😂)

  • @manicspinner1959
    @manicspinner1959 Před 3 lety +1

    This video and that sweater might actually maybe possibly have me consider a crochet garment. Maybe. It's really really beautiful. What concerns me is your comment about the weight. You used fingering and still ended up with a heavy sweater. I don't need a heavy sweater. But it sure looks nice.

    Gahhhhhh!!!! I NEED this sweater in my life!!! 😍 I'm making a fingering weight HUGE granny shawl right now w baby alpaca for my winter shawl I wrap over my head (think Caroline Ingalls) when I do chores in the winter. I don't really like a coat (im fat, and....... every coat makes me feel like Chris Farley 😐 so I refuse lol) because even if it's 20 below the work of watering animals and trudging thru snow here in northern mn makes u hot as heck! I love a light weight shawl around my head Russian grandma style...... but...... this sweater 😍😍😍 it's perfectly pretty handmade looking which is muh jam.... I could love wearing this ♡♡♡ thanks for the bonus you ♡

    Hi Amy Beth ; I have a question for you about your teen age daughter : Do you think that she will carry on your tradition of crafts and your business of knitting and sewing. Or do you wish that she will show some enthusiastic towards something else other than doing something like your line of business. Crocheting is my first love as a crafter. Then it is my knitting for now!!! I really love your crochet granny cardigan/ sweater. You really seem to get the right size of garment made for you . Does your daughter want you to make her any garments besides hand-knitted socks. I really love all of the things you do regardless if it is sewing ,quilting ,knitting ,or even crocheting. YOU ARE REALLY AMAZING.

    So I did buy the pattern. Is it easy to make it larger? I also want the fabric of the crochet to be tight rather than loose. I'm using sport weight yarn, so that it is not super bulky to make me look fatter. I may just make a small sweater to practice it, and figure it out? Anyway, any special tips on making it bigger?
