    The player at 2:51 that threw the referee to the ground was expelled from school and was charged 6 months after this with "lewd and lascivious conduct" for having sex with a 12 year old girl. The coach also ended up getting arrested for trying to silence the family of the 12 year old girl by buying them off. The basketball incident happened December 2010 and the later charges came in May 2011. According to some reports, the player never finished school and ended up just dropping out.

Have you ever coached AAU and dealt with players parents and see how other coaches are more like cheerleaders than mentors. I grew up in Oakland and played high school during a time when the NBA was kind of hood, a lot of fights. Not one kid I played against tried to emulate players fighting, wearing Jewely. Etc. Rivals might fight. The whole AAU is disgusting. Professional players don't act like this. They would get a technical foul or thrown out and possible miss more than a few games. This is what happens when you try to be your kid's best friend and not their parent. It's not just sports. Kids today are rude, lack of respect, etc, has nothing to do with pro athletes it's what the parent will allow. Nice Try.

      AAU and other leagues are driving this type of behavior. You couldn't pay me enough to referee one of these games. Besides reffing the game, you have to look over your shoulder for some coach or parent who wants to come up and sucker punch you or worse yet, pop a cap in your ass over a foul call. There is a lot of money in AAU basketball with coaches identifying top level players and recruiters paying big $$$ for the contact info. Every parent there thought their kid is the next Steph Curry. Second half was hitting a pitched ball. I remember one game where this parent wanted her little Johnny to pitch. Tried to explain to her he was better playing the outfield. He needed to work on his ball throwing skills. She was relentless so I gave in and he pitched. He was wild and he got tagged a lot. Then she started yelling at me for embarrassing her kid and demanded I take him out. Other parents chimed in to get him out. I shrugged my shoulders and said I tried to tell you but I pulled the kid out and told him pitching is harder than playing the field but with practice he would get better.

My brother was practically attacked in the car-park by many of the parents. 'He's our star player!' Rick just said, 'Tough. Until he learns, he's on the bench.' It was such an issue that the School Board became involved, the Community Leaders, all sorts. He was ostracised in some local stores. That's the real rub, the parents. The kids doing dumb stuff I sorta get, we all learned along the way up through jr high. But the parents not only not corralling their kids but exacerbating the issue? Wow. I played all sorts of rec league youth sports in the 90's and early 2000's. Kids doing this would have been yanked from the contest and parents advocating for their kids to do that would have been seriously shamed. If both parent and kid were like this, they probably would have been booted off the team and given a refund.

Here, I'll help you...

    • @cptfwiffo
      @cptfwiffo Před rokem +4

      Although, I also have to say: these refs were waaaaaaaaaaay too soft. They lost control of the players, the coaches, and the crowd. Yes, it sometimes happens. But, you see a push / slap on a dead ball? Immediate flagrant. If not ejection. Complain? warn, then tech. Tossing the ball away? Probably a tech. Toss it at a player? Probably straight ejection. People getting on the court or harassing? Get the coach, tell him to fix it. Or stop the play. It is *your* court. If you feel the players, coaches, benchmen, etc. are not safe... Stop the game. On the court, there are two people everybody has to listen to. Referees, and referees. And they're trumped by the police. NOBODY else. Gym owner? College director? Prime minister? President? King Charles III ? Jesus himself? Nope, not your court. Mine. Get your ass removed. You have no power here. I'll listen to police and nobody else unless I feel it.
      These refs were not in control, and as a result players felt the need to take control themselves. If they want to take control, do not allow it and take the control back, or get them out.

    Wow. So aggressive, so confrontational. I’m 61 y-o now, and played all through my youth in Milwaukee and Kansas City. It was always competitive, but also respectful. NEVER any fights or cheap shots on other players. Times are different. Sad.

      Real sad. It s not only parents fault but principally the horrible behavior from some "professionals" in the NBA acting like real thugs every week. Insulting, trash talking, bullyng and disrespecting refs, adversaries, teammates and so on. Really sad

    As a tall guy who plays basketball, one of the worst things is a tiny dude who throws a shoulder into your knee. Being larger is already hard on your joints, let alone when a Spud Webb wannabe decides to try to break your leg.

    Thank you for showing me why my kids play sports that you cannot play in the driveway.
    It’s good to know that my hard work allowed me to provide a lifestyle that my kids don’t have to be around crap like this.

    As former player and coach, I blame this on street ball culture. Parents who instigate their children at the game’s should be removed. Any child who intentionally swing’s, trip’s, punches, or kicks another player should be removed. If you have a coach that is encouraging this type of play the whole team should be forfeited. This culture need’s to be stopped, you have first graders going at each other, it’s embarrassing.

      street ball culture has always been a part of basketball to a certain extent. reffs, and coaches need to do their jobs. when i played in high school, our coach let a really good player go because the kid couldn't say yes sir and no sir. coaches need to realize its not all about winning, its about developing punk boys into productive young men.

      Alot of it is more the AAU culture. /teams play to pay in tournaments. Then threaten to play in different tournaments in the future if they don't like the refs. So tournament directors ask the refs to call less technicals then they normally do.
