- Join me on this tour of Dreamland in Kent, one of the oldest and most underrated amusement parks in the UK. Based in the quirky seaside town of Margate, it’s a great day out for all the family - with vintage funfair rides, street food, amusements, festival days, DJ nights, art installations and even a roller disco rink!
Not to mention the historical significance - it’s home to the oldest surviving rollercoaster in the UK, The Scenic Railways which is over 100 years old!
After closing down for over a decade, in the Summer of 2015 Dreamland reopened after a rejuvenation - it’s back and better than ever! Come along and see what it’s all about in this 4K walking tour! If you’re looking for things to do or places to go this summer, Dreamland should be top of your list!

Used to go there as a kid in the late 70s and 80s as a kid, day trips from London, it was a magical place, Mary Rose, looping star etc, it’s iconic, so glad it’s come back from the dead.
That’s amazing. Would’ve loved to see it back before it closed down the first time 😮
I enjoyed your history of Dreamland! Very informative and funny thank you Jack
Ahh cheers, you know me I never do any research but this time I actually knew some stuff 🤣🤣
@@jackryanmiller you did, very interesting and funny that rollercoaster came from iow. I wouldn't have remembered that. Definitely be good to see more UK theme parks and fairs with some history.
going to watch Bryan Adams coming Thursday. Excited to see the place and the show.
Wow I’m jealous I love Bryan Adams!

The noises on that ghost train 🤣
The ghost train…unpleasantness
pff try operating it all day, then you can complain 🤣
Very enjoyable video, lots of interesting facts and history. I may go myself and check out that big wheel. Is there anywhere nearby to eat that maybe does a nice lasagne? Enjoying your adventures, keep up the good work 👍
Very good, I would recommend the Brewers Fayre just round the corner. Good pub, plenty of choice of products.
There's a great little Italian in the old town
@@russelayling7859 Cheers buddy, much appreciated 👍
Hell yeah dreamland!!! Ah the memories.
Love it!
My childhood park from the late 70's onwards. The Scenic Railway was my first big coaster. Actually got married on it just after they rebuilt it in 2016!
That’s amazing! What a place to get married too! 🤩
The place has changed since I was there over 45 years ago or more. Remember there was The Haunted House and Spinning wheels where you were pinned to the walls. And the place had a few other great rides some probably destroyed in the fire or perhaps just unsafe for today's health and safety organisations
There was a great ice cream vendor food shop cafe and a museum of sorts of oddities inside the hall at the front entrance and nearby from Dreamland was a waxwork museum guess that has all gone? And some famous people worked in Dreamland and one belief is Emu and Rod Hul before he was famous that is and Jim Davidson appeared in Margate and I think he worked there as a teenager. And many others.
Wow thanks so much, it’s always amazing hearing about memories from what it was like previously and I’m very interested in Dreamland’s history. Would’ve liked to see a young Rod Hull and Emu too!!
It’s become far too expensive since they did away with the wristbands. You would buy a wristband to enter and then all the rides were included. It’s such a disappointment now as it’s now £5.00 pp just to ride the scenic railway. So a family of four would spend a fortune there now. It never gets as busy as it used to now as the rides are so expensive when you have to pay for each ride individually. That’s why they’ve started up the music venues which are so packed and dangerous that there are always people getting crushed as there’s no real structure to them. I’ve lived here for over 30 years now and have only been once since they made it free entry as it’s so disappointing. It’s such a shame.
Yes that is a shame I guess the prices are going up because it’s so expensive to keep it all running. Should definitely bring back the wristbands and have the rollercoaster included
Cheers Jack ! Joke's!!
Thanks very much!
I think Zoltar was mugging you off
Mate the state of it. Fairground amusements hurling abuse at me
With the position of that theodolite and its target my money is on theming or a concession stand in the plaza. Not very exciting tho.
I’m going to Margate in a few weeks so I’ll have a look to see if any update 🤗
Used to be good before Covid shut down half the shit and made rides a lot more temporary. Even then it was only a slice of what it used to be years ago.
Ahh yeh it must be so expensive to run nowadays which is prob why they had to get the temporary rides and stuff. Would’ve loved to see it at its peak
Dreamlands not underrated but it is the most disappointing theme park in uk for anyone who has grown up with it. It’s half its former size from the glory days. There is rarely a day when all the rides are open. The events they run there are poorly executed. Think the whole place needs a new management if it wants to stay open for the long term.
I’m sad to hear that. I’m comparing it to my experience of first seeing it in 2014 when it was empty apart from the scenic railway so obviously it’s looking so much better now, but I would’ve loved to see it in the glory days.
Here's a fun fact, it's a completely separate company that operate all the rides except the scenic and big wheel
@@jackryanmillerif you want to see Dreamland as a lot of locals of a certain age remember it then watch the Onlly Fools And Horses episode “The Jolly Boys Outing” as was filmed in and around margate and Dreamland itself. Plus it’s very funny lol.
It's in Margaret
