Pity you didn't get a bit further along the coast to the West. Down bottle alley from the pier end to Warrior Square and goat ledge. Kings Road and Norman Road and the places by the painted alcoves towards Marine court, the building that looks like a cruise liner. Lots of characters in Hastings and St. Leonards, sometimes seedy and sometimes amazing but mostly entertaining...

I have visited it. No disrespect intended but no reason to go back

Hastings has a certain character but there are some rough areas. No different to most towns.

I grew up visiting Dymchurch most weekends, staying in Mum & Dads caravan. Many years later I bought a home there, lovely neighbours, bar one who made our lives a misery. Unfortunately she also sat on the Parish council, which is run like some kind of feudal fiefdom, they also seemed to be related. Our face didn’t fit so we gave up & sold up and moved 1.5 miles further up the road to St Mary’s Bay and had no such problems there.

Are you still go there every year when I was in a children's home in the early 70s am I used to go to Margate for the day❤

Thinking of moving to Deal, was torn between Folkestone and The Thanet towns, but looked into Deal and it’s in between both! Best of both towns and has its own vibe, and it’s quieter too, Margate is cool but can be crowded

Hi, Jack. Nice video! I was born in Dymchurch and grew up there. You asked for things you missed. If you carry on past the Methodist church for 5 mins you get to the Norman Church (where I was baptised). A minute further and you'll see another pub called the Ship (good food, I hear). The village carries on for another 3 miles (mostly) along the coast to a mini-fortress called the Redoubt, next to Hythe Ranges. I don't know about ostriches, but halfway towards the Redoubt there's a llama farm at Burmarsh Corner. I have bitter-sweet memories of the Little Train; it's fun for a day trip but I had to commute to school on it for 6 years - very cold and damp in February! Lastly, the Day of Syn display you saw is to promote the "Day of Syn", a village festival that takes place on August Bank Holiday every other year: smugglers and revenue men parade through the village etc. It started in 1964 to celebrate a set of books about a vicar-turned-smuggler called Dr Syn, written by Russell Thorndyke, which also got turned into a couple of films (one by Disney!) and a TV series. All the characters in the books are named after people buried in the churchyard. The next one is later this year (2024). Happy travelling!

Hi there, I am grateful that I live in Southsea, right by Canoe lake that you showed. Sadly Southsea has been in decline since about 2010, imho, the precinct, like many others around the UK are mostly boarded up. Thanks for coming though

Regarding the Royal Beach Hotel I see it is used to house illegal migrants and now plans are in place to turn it in to flats

I live in Portsmouth. Those viewing platforms are mostly used to watch naval ships coming in or out of port. The seafront is packed in the summer. Every year we have Victorious festival on the common too

Hi Jack, new to you're channel, after watching this video, i absolutely love Portsmouth and Southsea, great memories of family holidays when i was a kid, even now when i visit i still love it. Love the hovercraft. You went to the rock Gardens which are amazing, but did you know next to the model village, they have a rose garden which always smells nice and looks wonderful if you go at the right time and season. Great video. Loved it. 👍

I WAS BORN IN THE CITY OF YORK AND THAT IS THE MOST HAUNTED CITY IN EUROPE.MY LATE WIFE AND I LIVED IN A NUMBER OG HAUNTED PROPERTYS FROM 1966 THIS FLAT WAS HAUNTED WHEN WE MOVED HERE IN 1988 AND STILL IS.

Beach all open now, looking great. Southsea Castle is free to enter and there's a popular cafe inside. Walking inland from the castle Southsea is really bustling with cafes' bars and restaurants.

A few years ago Time Team did a dig next to that Royal Garrison Church, I forget what they were digging for though

Jack the 2 forts recently went to auction and sold for just over 1 million pound each. Too be honest that was a bargain. A number of years ago they were worth about 4 million each. How times have changed. I also read recently that Portsmouth & Southsea have the most amount of pubs in the country.

Just been along the seafront and its packed with thousands and thousands of Asians they are everywhere you walk, the beach, the seafront, the common, and the whites are EU, and for sure when they finish the mess will be massive, old Portsmouth is ugly because of property developers allowed to destroy it with help from the council, sorry but lived here all my life and have seen the damage done.
