For those who don't know, Mothra was always there to either save Godzilla, or calm him down when he got crazy. This is so nostalgic and a perfect depiction of Mothra!

also about 75% of the time, Mothra and Godzilla were enemies, so I don't really think this is a perfect depiction but okay.

Want to know what makes this scene even more depressing? According to the director, both Godzilla and Mothra knew each other way back in Earth's history and even fought as comrades much of the time. However, one day she left to face a threat without Godzilla and never returned, and he did look for her; their encounter during this battle was their first since that day.

@@Svnchx the thing with critics is that they use the same meassures for every movie instead of taking into acount the genre, and these rules favores dramas, leaving every single movie that is not a drama in the dust, and thats why no one likes them
An annalogy would be, in a marathon, taking 2 hours is a nice time, but in a 100 meters race 10 seconds is average, critics just use 100 meters time measurements with both a 100 meters runner and a marathon runner, and obviously, no Matter how good the marathon runner was he wont finish a race in 10 seconds

Dude the music at 0:12 - 0:26 is so.. grand. Like, not only does it let you know we are in active danger because of how weakened Godzilla is, but it helps this scene stand out.
I love the music that plays just before Mothra flies towards Ghidorah. You know what's going to happen to her and the music just fits the scene so perfectly. Mothra in this film is awesome and I love the relationship her and Godzilla have in this film.

When the trailer first came out, and it showed Mothra's wings from behind the waterfall, I welled up inside at the thought of finally seeing her beauty on the big screen. The same scene in the movie brought me to tears of joy.
When this scene happened, I broke out in tears again.
I know Mothra never fully dies and is just reincarnated each time... but seeing her death really hit hard.
I had the exact same reaction you did. Got super emotional seeing the trailer, cried from the overwhelming beauty of her unfurling her wings under the waterfall, and legitimately cried when she sacrifices herself. I honestly think this is one of the best monster movies ever made, and is a masterclass in CGI with how *detailed* all the monsters are. You see every scale on Ghidorah, every fire ember on Rhodan; you see every spike on Godzilla’s plates along his back, the absolute majesty of Mothra in general.
@@SeleniteQuartz I think my favourite detail is when Rodan is chasing all the jets, his smirk just before he spins in the air to slap them with his wings.
Just that show of emotion was more detail than the entirety of the "live action" Lion King that came out around the same time as KotM.
The different personalities of each of Ghidorah's heads was also fantastic to see :D

1:17 Is such a subtle touch that I love they put in.
In past movies, Mothra and Godzilla are usually enemies (sometimes temporary allies) with Mothra having to stop Godzilla from destroying Japan.
But here? She dies protecting him, not because she knows he's strong enough to save the world, but because he's HER world. Godzilla could've easily dismissed her sacrifice, but here? You see him wail out in anguish as he watches her disappear before him. If you listen closely you can even hear him cry out "Mo-thraaaaaaa" in growls.
Whether or not it's romantic, Godzilla loved Mothra more than anything else.

The way Mothra mantles her wings protectively over Godzilla makes me cry every time ;~; Long Live the Queen. As well as the fact she positioned herself PRECISELY where she needed to be, knowing when she died, her essence would give Godzilla the remaining power he needed to kill Ghidorah.

Mothra is the only monster that has an actual lifecycle. Mothra has died over and over, but there's always been an egg to hatch the next generation. So in some respects Mothra is the very embodiment of death and rebirth.
Ghidorah chasing Emma is genuinely the most terrifying scene of this film.
The fact that Godzilla survived that drop back to the ground shows how tough the monster really is. Putting him up against Kong should be a no brainer on the winner tbh.

You can see how happy Maddie looks seeing her parents work together to help Godzilla, that's how you know that nothing is stronger than family.
A shame that both of Maddie's parents are shit people, and that the one who didn't die in this film didn't change for the better in GvK. Her mother is an emotionally-manipulative monster who dragged her into committing literal crimes against humanity, and her father in GvK browbeats and guilt-trips her into doing what he wants. She'd honestly be freer and happier if both of them were dead.

Little did everyone know that Mothra made Ghidora shoot its beams so that Mothra could absorb them so that together with the energy it had left, it could pass them on to Godzilla. After all, Mothra always relayed energy to Godzilla. Hence, their symbiotic relationship. Mothra didn't just die and burst.
You got to love how no one really notices the mother is resembling, Mothra here! She’s doing so by insuring her baby and king stay alive by buying them/Godzilla time!Serving them without question until the end because she is selfless, loving, nurturing, bold and brave! Yet people always complain about character development but the writers give you this beautiful smaller gem. Just have to dig for it.🥰
Pfft. I've gotta say, this is a ridiculously huge Draco In Leather Pants treatment. While the mother did sacrifice her life to save her daughter and to make sure Godzilla had enough time to stop Ghidorah for good, that arguably doesn't quite outweigh all the truly heinous stuff she's done throughout the film. Her behaviour over the film makes it clear she only really cares about her own daughter and she doesn't give a rat's disease-infested ass about the *millions* of other parents and children whom she's *knowingly* throwing into a meat-grinder with her plan. She claims the casualties she's causing are necessary sacrifices to save humanity in the long-term, but she throws her conviction to the so-called greater good away when it's *her* child instead of literally EVERYBODY ELSE's that's in mortal danger. I could go on about more horrible stuff she does which makes her completely unsympathetic and which has nothing to do with character development so much as character WRITING...

@@renanandre6031 as long as her egg isn't destroyed, yeah. Her egg was almost destroyed by Godzilla in Mothra vs. Godzilla (back when they were enemies and Godzilla was an angry rampaging monster). Luckily she saved it in time but died too. Then the Shobjin hatched the egg into two larvae, which beat Godzilla and one of which lived on as the next Mothra.

Hate how a lot of critics and fan ratings complained that in the godzilla 2014 there were too much human scenes, so when they get more monster fighting scene and wayyy less human scenes, they still aren't satisfied. Glad that it looks like GvK will have more CGI than ever so I'm hyped
They sparked the electronic device in the middle of the rain, literally downpouring onto the device and they spark wires to "fix the device" its just lazy ass writing and clearly everyone on set lacks common sense to say how silly that is. When people are mad about the human scenes its completely justified because we are watching morons survive doomsday for the 2nd time.
