    You can see they are built for the wind. That thing wants to take right off while you’re working on it. I love windmills. I have always liked them even when I was a little girl. I remember the windmill that my great grandfather had on his farm. I was fascinated with it, but I never understood how they worked. Thank you so much for having this channel because it’s helping me understand more about how water can be pumped with windmills. What a great idea for people who want to live off grid.

    Sometimes when you get your new parts from the factory tha1/4” rod has the wrong angle bent on the ends and you can open the bend a little that will help you with the furl to fit better in my experience maybe you can try that or not

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  Před měsícem

      You would think, but people have attempted it, and at one time, Aermotor had one out, in the days of the early electric, but due to the blade design, the didn’t work well. For some reason, wind turbines all have 2 or 3 blades, probably for slipstream aerodynamics or something……..

    So without getting into too much detail or exact figures which I'm sure that each job pays different but what is the average job pay ballpark and what was the most expensive job you have ever done? Also do you do land survey for installation or is that already done by the time you get onto a job? Again I'm gonna ask a million questions about something so there's that! And when why how and who got you into doing this type of work?? Oh and if you need containers for storage I know someone in OK that can do that for you. And he will deliver and I trust him known him for years so I stand by what he does and sells. Just a thought and quick sales pitch hahahaha 😂😂😂 definitely enjoy the content

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  Před měsícem +2

      Awesome thank you for watching! So average would have to be probably 1-2 thousand. We do so many yearly services that are $110 so that would throw the calculation funny. Highest was around 30K, but that was a huge job. Not a lot of money in this field for the amount of labor.
      We don’t land survey in terms of utilities/buried stuff, that’s up to the customer. Thank you for the questions and I hope these help!

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  Před měsícem +2

      I got into it myself, part time back in 2004 when mama bought me my first windmill. It had been destroyed and I had to rebuild it. I did it as a side business until Nov 2022 when I left my full time to do this full time!

  • @nick540g
    @nick540g Před měsícem

    I particularly enjoyed the comment about getting defective components and having to scrounge a similar (identical?) one from 100 years ago!! Wouldn't life be grand if manufacturers didn't redesign their products every five years? I was hoping to learn more about the mechanism that folds the tail and locks the wheel. Is that the only way to prevent these windmills from being damaged during high wind? That must be terribly inconvenient if a farmer/rancher has 6-8 of these rigs and a storm is coming in fast. What happens if they're not locked down during a 70 mph storm?

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  Před měsícem

      Howdy! Thank you! Yep, it’s sad. I called them and they did say they had just gotten a new mold for the part. Never fails.
      I will do better at trying to be more complete when making the videos.
      It’s hard to know as I’m filming to know what to put in it or not. We’re new and getting better, I hope. 🤞🏻
      So I service large ranches that have 20 plus windmills and that’s part of it. Most do take the risk of leaving it open all the time, some are very on top of protecting their investment. I do set the spring tension so that it’s safer. Stick around and I will do a full on go-over on the windmill design and features. Thank you again sir!!!!!

      @@OkieWindmiller Looking forward to a short tutorial on how they work and how to operate and maintain them (even though I'll never own one). I retired to North Texas (east of Dallas) and discovered the area is plagued by flood and drought -- sometimes in the same year. I'd like to have a well with a windmill but there's no water here.

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  Před měsícem

      @@OkieWindmiller Not so! The history of N. Tx water is full of problems. The native americans who lived here first warned the white settlers to stay away from the area because of unpredictable rainfall and river flow. They didn't listen and built Ft Worth and Dallas. Residents have suffered drought and flood ever since. Small towns that depended on wells quickly outgrew their water supply after WW2 and started building lakes to store water.

    Just visiting, via Puddin'. I scrolled back to this, so maybe now is different, but I will be visiting again. I hope you are doing something different with fast forward, as the voice speed up was annoying. On that subject, later you brought in music, but I think your whistling was NOT annoying. Maybe you could record some of that, for fast forwarding, become your signature without any copywrite issues. And I feel you, noise at work is life, but the tinny, banging stuff is not ideal for people kicking back and watching after work. Maybe mute that a bit!
