Chitral used to be a major exporter of slaves to markets in Khiva, Yarkand, Jalalabad, Kabul & other Central Asian cities before it was banned by the British in 1895.
Little has been written about the slavery in Chitral despite it being the third major source of income for the local rulers called Mehtar.
