  • Sir Ben Kingsley spoke at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on March 1, 2011, for a special program devoted to the power of film and the Holocaust. In his conversation with NPR host Scott Simon, he recounts playing Otto Frank in the television mini-series, Anne Frank: The Whole Story (2001).

I loved his story about how one of Otto's actual close friends came to see him in at his trailer and hugged him and said "That's my friend!" I honestly got a little teary-eyed from hearing that.

They couldn't have found a more perfect person to play Otto Frank than Ben Kingsley.

This is the first interview I've come around with one of the cast members from Anne Frank: The Whole Story. Does anyone know if there exists more with maybe Hannah, Brenda Blethyn or Lily Taylor?

This is my favorite story about the holocaust, and my favorite Ben Kingsley role. It is such a powerful adaptation and gets everything right to the core. One of my favorite movies about the holocaust for sure.

Poor Anne Frank she deserved to live a long life so sad:( She died of Typhus not long before the camp was liberated. My mums father was among the men who liberated Belsen he was so shocked by what the Nazis did there I still have pictures he took to document the atrocities.
He wrote later it’s a warning to us all how a cultured people in the heart of Europe for 12 years returned to barbarism.

Actually according to recent inquires it’s been established that Anne died in late February 1945 one day after her sister died their bodies were dumped in a mass grave inside the camp I can only imagine how they felt at the end of their lives and to find out that Otto was the soul survivor if it had been me I’d have been completely broken I wouldn’t wanna go on I’d wanna be with my wife and daughters forever

Most of the deaths were due to the illegal Allied starvation blockade, and aerial bombing which prevented supplies from reaching the camps.
      Churchill began civilian bombing.
