My personal theory is that 1020 is the "invisible engine", he's just a background character in a flashback of episode III and I think there's a parallel to James in his flashback scenes. To begin with, 1020 is an LNER J15 which is a mixed traffic locomotive like James. I think 1020 had an accident, fell into the lake and was just left in there to rust away. He becomes a vengeful spirit that haunts Hawin lake and his old line. This is where Hawin becomes his first victim but unlike 1020, Hawin was saved and restored by Old Bailey. Years pass and The Fat Controller starts restoration work on the old line, Haunted Henry happens here and Henry narrowly avoids falling into the same ravine Hawin did previously but unfortunately his trucks weren't so lucky and fell into the ravine. Not long after, Stepney spends a night at the lake and ends up speaking to some strange trucks. I think these trucks are the spirits of the ones from Henry's train in Haunted Henry, they also happen to be the same trucks that caused James to have his accident a long time ago. 1020's spirit then shows up in form of a talking owl, he mentions he remembers when Stepney previously visited the Island. Stepney was built in 1875, he's been around a very long time and could've visited the Island of Sodor a long, long time ago working alongside Hawin and 1020. When Stepney mentions about being told if he "stopped moving" that could be something 1020 told him way back then. 1020 then chooses to torment Stepney, he hates the fact that Stepney got rescued from the scrapyard while he was left in that lake, the spirit trucks decide to join in with the torment as trucks do. Hawin watches from a distance and when the owl and trucks have gone, he goes in and rescues Stepney. Stepney wakes up, finds Rusty and here we find out Duncan had an experience. This will hopefully come to light in "The Chilling Cutting". We're then shown a flashback scene that focuses on James and his "bleak" black paintwork, being the engine in the background that nobody pays any attention to, an "invisible engine". Edward accidentally bumping him and forgetting his name reinforces this. Stepney now refuses to work at the lake and James takes his place. 1020 as the owl sees him enter the work zone and immediately starts causing trouble for James, spilling tar over his tender which partially refers back to his original black paint. Later that evening the trucks begin taunting him and specifically mention his red paint can't hide who he is and he's in a crowd he'll never stand out in. This is parallel to 1020, he was also painted black and so far, has just been in the background of Hawin's flashback scene with Neil. He too doesn't stand out and is projecting his own negativity onto James in order to torture him. It's now night time and we see the trucks "bump" James and cause him to runaway but I think something different is happening here. If you go back to that scene, you can hear a faint and unfamiliar whistle when the camera views James' cab, I think they were pushed by something invisible. Also notice, that the consist of the trucks is extremely similar to Henry's in Haunted Henry. While Henry did have a flatbed, that was the only wagon that didn't fall into the ravine. The plank wagons also say "you won't stop us this time James" which may refer to them being the same trucks that caused his original accident, the flicking between current day and the past possibly supporting this. Like Hawin before him, James falls into the ravine and in that brief moment, we see only James. There's no trucks sat in the ravine with him, this is what makes me think the trucks themselves are also spirits. Hawin's whistle can be heard in the background before the credits roll. In order to keep Harwin hidden, Old Bailey will likely go to Edward about James' accident. This turned into a bit of an essay... I've been speculating on this for months and can't wait for the Chilling Cutting to come out! 😁
Oh my GOD! That was amazing! That was so thought out it puts my theory to shame:) XD I was actually stunned while reading that. Words cannot describe how impressed I am. I never noticed the whistle that plays when James' cab is shown to be empty. I even checked and my mind was blown. I actually hope that's what actually happened because that is just beautiful:) Amazing work!:)
The sounds from the actual episode being included at 3:16 especially caught me completely off guard. I wish more videos about spooky material did clever things like that.
Well, I think that the entity that inhabits the lake is responsible for 1020's demise, this is possibly why his vengeful spirit is seen haunting the Hawin Line and his old line. Looking for his killer!...
Very interesting theory I have to say. Parts of your theory add a bit to my theory about the monster. From what we see in parts 2 and 3, Stepney and James are driven crazy by the trucks reminding and rubbing in their fears. James's fear of being forgotten and Stepney's fear being coming off as selfish. It's almost a bit like Pennywise feeding off people's fears to become stronger in 'It'. While here, if the monster is taking on these forms then it's most likely using these engines fears as a way to keep them away from the lake. Even if it resulted in Stepney going crazy or James falling into the ravine.
Speaking of the message of: 'Some things are better off left alone', it makes me wonder how The Blue Snowplow will incorporate the events of 'Rusty and the boulder'. Maybe the monster takes on the form of the boulder.
This is such a good theory! Definitely better than the one I did lol! I've had some other theories of mine in the past but haven't made another video on them. This makes me want to do something like that. Great work, dude!

Well thought out but Old Baily is really just a old man till said otherwise. I don't think he has anything to do with this besides perhaps having been effected by the Monster. He knows Hawin, but we don't know when he found the engine in the ravine. As well he and Hawin seem to be mostly immune to the mind screws this thing has pulled, who knows this could take place years after Hawin fell in the first part and Edward meets them not long after Percy was brought to the railway. Now if you haven't seen the 4th part don't read further. Major spoilers go watch the "Chilling Cutting" first you have been warned! Next 1020 is now shown to not have killed himself, but perhaps someone on his train did. He was a scapegoat as he tells Rusty, for something he could not control. Though he says otherwise he is for sure a malevolent and evil spirit, since Edward agreed to leave and James had his accident if Edward had only intended to come back to fulfill a promise to Hawin then why would 1020 make sure James ever had his accident all those years ago. James would never have reason to go near the lake, and only says it wants it's place of rest left alone yet it has caused both Hawin and James, and caused Stepney such a nightmare that in terms of locomotives looked like a "Grand Mal" Seizure. Hawin was only being dutiful, he was like Thomas granted a branch line. He loved it and the new station up by the Lake was most likely named after him, much like Gordon's Hill only because everyone thought Hawin was lost there. Stepney has done nothing a good steam engine worth it's steel wouldn't do, he was nearly killed, just wanted to live a life as a useful engine and in both real life and this world is a symbol of "Preserve Steam" and James too has nothing to be ashamed of, he has his faults but so does every engine. 1020 is the monster as a spirit he can be anything he wants to mess with things, that stupid owl, a bunch of rotten trucks which he is most likely possessing as they are there, but he can make them not talk at any time. No excuses you rotten lost slag (Metal waste! I use that word in the dictionary way!) ridden locomotive! Stop perverting the magic of Sodor and go silent for you may have been used but it doesn't give you the right to hurt innocent engines! The moral is not leave things alone, the moral is to let go! As we all know Every cloud has a silver lining and life is a never ending story even when this journey is done, we have only just begun! Ahhhem, pardon me I just have no sympathy for those who screw up others lives. 1020 may have been wronged but the engines never meant him harm, no someone who has had their comeuppance long ago blamed you for something, you are now condemned but you aren't on the same path. You chose to attack, not to defend well I call that a Virus, and I live by the code, Mend and Defend. No one will miss you, unless you realize before your final fate.
Hm, you raise some very good points. I can't really argue with any of them. Although I think the whole thing about Edward meeting Hawin just after Percy arrived doesn't really work because when James is painted black Edward bumps into him pulling the same works train he had when he met Hawin. Despite what he's done I can't help but feel a bit sorry for 1020.
@@carlmatthews8338 Fair enough, we shall find out sooner than later. Maybe 1020 can be redeemed, I did say "Hope he realizes before it's too late" Some do not learn, ask Tom Riddle.
@@carlmatthews8338 Huh, would of thought that reference was almost universal. But never assume as the saying goes, Tom Riddle is Lord Voldermort (as J.K. Rowlling shows in book two of Harry Potter 'Tom Marvolo Riddle' his full name is an anagram of 'I am Lord Voldemort' he hated any connection to his Muggle family so he rearranged his name to stand out. He also did something only one other Wizard in the series did and he was the inventor of it, he became Pottermore's equivalent to a Litch in D&D. He split his soul into parts, which could only be done by committing the most evil act anyone can do "Murder" and each split he put into a physical object which are called "Horcrux" meaning to be only just Seven the perfect magical number but he screwed that up because you aren't meant to damage the soul let alone put each piece in a vase. His biggest fear was death, so he wanted to gain true immortality and with a Horcrux even if his body was killed his soul lingered not as a ghost which in Pottermore isn't a actually soul bound to Earth by unfinished deeds or what 1020 here has. They are echos, literally those who feared death but weren't mental through their magical connection made it so when they did die they would have their true self pass on but a lingering incorporeal replica of them as they died left behind which could learn and live in a manner of speaking but like a photo or recording they weren't that which they once were. Voldermort's soul however was infact his true self but even less than the Ghosts at the same time, he could posses a body but if he did that body aged and degraded fastter, died and he would have to do it again. Only through a potion he invented did he gain a true form again, which was hardly human at that point but he didn't care. The biggest problem he faced here was if all his scattered bits were destroyed he would be a single entity and being killed or being in that psudoghost form meant he would die, however unless he tried to repair the whole piece of his soul he had that was his true self of the damage he had inflicted to it by repenting he would not truly pass on by which I mean he would be stuck between Earth and whatever he feared lay beyond the veil (Eg. Heaven or The Inferno".) and worst of all he would be in this for eternity alone wandering as less than a human soul which is one of the worst fates a soul can have. The Harry Potter series is as vast in lore as Sodor and my planned creations, though lots of things in each are unknown just as it is here on Earth. For example, if you were to look at the Thomas and Shining Time Universe there are two worlds apart but connected by the Magic Railroad. But besides Lady being the care taker of it and the Conductor family being stewards to her and keeping that magic alive nothing else is known about it. That is the way for most stories in which even the creator wishes some freedom is alive to it. Sorry for the Thesis on Harry Potter in this, I am quite fond of places with Magic to them like Sodor, so I have keen intrest in Harry Potter and another series about a world of Wizards called "The Septimus Heap" series by Angie sage, great series and though like Harry Potter it is about Wizards, Magic and themed on the Number Seven it is unlike Harry Potter in so many ways. I still need to read the last two books of the first series, but they are well worth reading. Hope that gives you some valuable stories to find, so many stories all Neverending. ;)

Indeed. Who's Tom Riddle?
@@carlmatthews8338 Huh, would of thought that reference was almost universal. But never assume as the saying goes, Tom Riddle is Lord Voldermort (as J.K. Rowlling shows in book two of Harry Potter 'Tom Marvolo Riddle' his full name is an anagram of 'I am Lord Voldemort' he hated any connection to his Muggle family so he rearranged his name to stand out.
He also did something only one other Wizard in the series did and he was the inventor of it, he became Pottermore's equivalent to a Litch in D&D. He split his soul into parts, which could only be done by committing the most evil act anyone can do "Murder" and each split he put into a physical object which are called "Horcrux"
meaning to be only just Seven the perfect magical number but he screwed that up because you aren't meant to damage the soul let alone put each piece in a vase.
Hope that gives you some valuable stories to find, so many stories all Neverending. ;)
2:28 "Story Stealer"
Coool
Ok I like this video
good
It seams you were close with the 1020 I think he is the monster from seeing the last part
Yeah. I think he's The Monster too. Or maybe there is no Monster and Hawin and Old Bailey just think there is. Or maybe it's not a literal monster they just call 1020 A Monster. I don't know we'll have to wait and see:)
this video was really well made
Thanks dude:)
But that’s just a Theory a Game Theory
Best thing ever
Thanks:)
What music is used in 10:13?
I know is a thomasfied version of a burning memory but want to know where to find this version of it
That monster killed me!!!!! I’m getting revenge
Idk man, i feel old bailey is a good man, maybe he is only an old man who knows something else.
Maybe. Like I said I could be wrong this is just my personal theory:)
i think the main ones today are rusty and dane aka 1020
This was soo good
Thank you:)
@@carlmatthews8338 me guessing you’re from Good ol ireland?
That's right:)
@@carlmatthews8338 I’m from Ireland as well
Oh cool! I noticed the flag in your profile picture:)
Gee I'm not Thomas fan anymore but I swear I use to have that book as a kid
And I don't why I watch Thomas with horror elements in it but this interesting
8:45 lol
That is also Joker’s fear
Hol up isn't that the model of Dudley used in demons behind 1020? at 6:23
Damn
It Looks Like It
I never noticed that before
@@carlmatthews8338 i looked into it and I fact I'm 99% sure it's actually Dudley's demons model. The reason why I think that's so is Because the only thing written on Dudley's Side is danger and if you look closely you can see the dome is missing and it was also missing on the model in demons. Conclusion: that's Most probably Dudley and the person that made Dudley's model Also made Dane's new model. :>
Cool
Thanks
I mainly watched this for the summary , watching the series at 11pm wasnt the best idea because I was highly tired and creeped out . My brightness was all the way down to save battery , horrible mistake and I ruined a great series
That was what it was
I remember watching the trailer with the crash I couldn't tell what it was but I knew it was a crash
Update vid now that part 4 is out?
I don't think it's necessary but if more people ask I'll consider it:)
So is this monster a lizard humanoid
Eeh
Yeah if you want to call it that:)
News Flash: 1020 IS the monster
If only we knew at the time Lol
@@carlmatthews8338 I'm surprised you didn't even suggest that he was monster, instead you went with the monster being a different entity
Yeah
Well
1020 wasn't even a huge part of the story at the time
He seemed like just a background character at the time lol
I don’t think it’s old bealy it’s a good theory butt I think old bealy seen the monster attack made sure he warned everyone to keep them safe
Yeah that could also be true. I don't think he is anymore because of Part 4
@@carlmatthews8338 well that might be true but what if there is two balys one who is with the train and the station master
6:54 how do you know it’s him ?
I thought it was but when I was editing I wasn't sure
That's why I wrote "I Think???" On it:)
@@carlmatthews8338 ah good point , great video tho! : )
@@carlmatthews8338 if you look closely at the blue snow plows recap it definitely is, great catch ! 💯💯
Have you seen the new episode?
I have it was really good:)
@@carlmatthews8338 the scene with the moving head scared me shitless, as did the two red signal lights in the maintenance shed.
