    I love using spider plants in my classroom. The students get a kick out of seeing the spiderlings growing off the main plant. I take the spiderlings in water, so that the students are able to see the roots grow. I keep these in my science center. So during our plants and gardening theme, we get to talk about seeds (which I have spider plant seeds) and after planting the seeds, they produce a plant, the plant then produces babies (spiderlings). They get to plant the spiderlings during the month of May to take home as Mother's Day gifts.

      It's a bit late but might be helpful to somebody else. The mother plant is variegated too, just differently. I don't remember why it happens but it is apparently not uncommon for spider plants to produce babies with slightly different variegation, or no variegation.

    Darn it! I repotted my second spider plant, was surprised how big the roots were, so I planted it a deep pot - too heavy to hang.
    I repotted my first spider plant into a decorative owl-shaped glazed Teracotta pot, which it tall and narrow and it sent down a lot of babies. Looks great, but the second pot is a bigger one gallon 10 inch wide plastic pot. I'm guessing I'm going to place it on my stone tile wall that runs under a tree if my neighbor agrees.
    I guess I should watch your videos on the topic before "winging it." Oh well, I'll soon have lots of babies... Well, actually I do - just gotta plant them. :)

    Nice video. I see that your plant is mostly green. Mine is too. When I bought it, it was variegated. Now it’s mostly green? How do I get the white back? I thought it had something to do with lighting, but when I put it in a window with more light the dark grin started to turn pale green and it started to turn yellow. So I put it back. I’ve even tried fertilizer for house plants. Maybe I need a different type of fertilizer? How often do you fertilize? Maybe I didn’t do it enough? So, how do I get the white to return?

    was wondering why my one plant is producing so many more babies then my other plant o.o' they are both basically the same size and are in the exact same size pot the only difference is the plant that isn't producing many babies is one of those ones with the white stripe in the center of the leaf, iv only seen a single baby sprout out of that plant ever and the baby's growth is very very slow, it barely ever grows any bigger iv been watching it for probably 4 months now and its only like 3cm's large, my other plant though is a flat green plant and it sprouts babies like wildfire o.o' in the same 4 months time iv seen probably 20 or 25 babies sprout
    the ones with the white stripe just harder to get babies out of or something or is my plant just a stickler that don't wanna make babies?

    I love the pot and the space where you hung it, but I'm curious, what kind of hanging/hook situation do you use? I have so much space on my porch where I want to hang plants but I don't know exactly how to do it.

      @JoyUsGarden  Před 8 lety

      Hi Elizabeth - I used a pretty substantial eye hook. I then have a hanging planter s hook attached to that. Just make sure that the eye hook is well attached to the porch & you should be fine. Nell

    What material is that yellow pot? I've heard people say ceramic or terracotta can suddenly burst from the tuberose roots!😱True? Or false? Has anyone ever experienced this? Who has their spider plants in a breakable pot?🙋‍♂️

      Most of mine are in plastic or terra cotta pots. No bursting.

    Hi, the stolon my my spider plant is limping and has soften a bit at the end. The base of the stolon has a bent crease to it. The flower buds has turned brown and is falling off before it blooms. The leaves are healthy but the leaves on the plantlets, which is about 1cm, has brown tips to it. I repotted it a week ago because there were too many roots coming out of the holes at the bottom on the pot. Can anyone help me?

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  Před 8 lety

      Hi Nancy - It sounds like a reaction to moisture stress, over fertilizing, not enough light or too much chlorine in the water (spider plants are very sensitive to salt). Nell

    can it stay in a 4 inch pot and refresh the soil after several years

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  Před 7 lety +1

      No Ramel - Spider Plants have a vigorous root system & need repotting more than once every several years. Nell

      Indirect sunlight even when outside. They will sunburn.

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  Před 7 lety

      Hi Laurie - Spider Plants are prone to brown tipping. Mine have some too but that's because i live in the desert. It's something with the watering. As they grow they get pot bound & need more water. Also, you water could be too hard. Nell

  • @kristinalunsford6880

    I had a large variegated spider plant and it lived outdoors in a pot. It was extremely hardy as we had winters that would go down to the 20's and it survived and thrived for many many years.. I lost it when we had to move and it was left with family and they forgot to water it.. :(:(..I now have several all green ones and the largest in the pot is about 25 inches tall at its highest point and just loaded with babies..
