I saw that show in Culver City, and that scene was the most disturbing I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life! The only thing that prevented me from being completely traumatized was the fact that I knew it wasn’t really happening.
So it was graphic??
That’s a massive understatement! Like I said, if I wasn’t able to detach from what I was witnessing with the knowledge that it wasn’t actually happening, I would’ve been traumatized.
As an AV tech, the mic thing was not on you. It is shocking the number of stagehands that will just see a mic clip and think “this must be for the mic stand” and not once think to check if it fits the microphone that will be used. Wireless mics don’t fit in a mic clip meant for a wireless mic. I’m guessing you requested a wireless Handheld and whoever they got to run sound for the evening never switched out the wired mic clip.
As a union stage hand, this is why you hire union stage hands. We actually check for that.

As an Irish person I can assure you we don’t know what the fuck she’s saying either. It’s like a cross between an Irish accent and stereotypical deep American south dialect, it sounds like I should recognise it but I can’t

Newfies in a nutshell
There's lots of variations of Newfie accents. But I have family on my father's side who have spent time in Ireland. They said they were shocked how similar some of the Irish accents were to ours. The older people felt there was very little difference in accent. I can't remember exactly but I think it was near Cork or Kilkenny or west of those places where they found people who sounded pretty similar to us. Do you know where in Ireland people might say "b'y"? Like "yes b'y, no b'y" Chris O'Dowd's type of accent is very obviously not like a Newfie accent to me, but still feels familiar-ish. If that helps you position my barometer. The woman in the video has a very bay accent, with a bit of St. John's--but I can still hear the Irishness that's common to every newfie. So basically her inflection is also very affected by other languages (likely French, Portuguese, Dutch, and other stuff). In my accent we say stuff like "I'm after telling you a hundred times!" Making the past tense with the word "after" and the present participle is right out of the Irish language. Most other European languages use the verb 'to have' e.g. "I've already told you a hundred times!" My mom's accent is very bay. People from her hometown had French, Irish, Welsh, English, French, Scottish, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese backgrounds. But my dad's family their accent is closer to irish than Newfie. Where they are from there are Murphys, Farrells, Hanrahans.

Edit: I'm dying laughing. The guy whose Tiktok I linked IS Irish, not Newfie xD But he sounds pretty Newfie to me :P I was trying to find an example of someone whose accent is more obviously Irish. I feel like it's cheating to link an Irish guy doing a Newfie accent hahaha. I'm sure you can find examples yourself though if you're interested.
As someone from the south, I was also really confused. It sounded almost like an Irish person who lived in the southeast for a couple of years and picked up on the slang. 😂
