RULES:
The object of this 2 player card game is to score the most points by collecting runs and sets. A run is made up of 3 or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order. A set consists of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank.
Using a standard deck of playing cards with King high and ace low, each player randomly draws a card and the player with the lowest card is the first dealer. The dealer shuffles and deals 10 cards, one at a time, to each player. Players look at their own cards but keep them hidden from their opponents. The dealer discards the top card of the deck face up in the center of the table to start a discard pile. Place the deck face down next to the discard called the stock.
Beginning with the player who didn’t deal, and alternating turns, each player begins their turn by drawing the top card of either the stock or discard pile and adds it to their hand. Unless this is the first turn of the game. On the first turn, and only that turn, if the non-dealer doesn’t want the face up card in the discard, the dealer gets an opportunity to draw it and take a turn. Otherwise, the non-dealer continues their turn by discarding 1 card, faceup to the discard pile. Then the other player goes.
Play continues until one player knocks or goes gin, at which point, at the end of their turn, they discard a card face down on the discard pile. A player goes gin when 10 cards in their hand are all simultaneously apart of a set or run. A single card may not be a part of a set AND a run simultaneously, you must pick one for it to belong with. Both players reveal their hands and the player who went gin receives points based on the unmatched cards in their opponent’s hand, called deadwood. Face cards are worth 10 points, Aces are worth 1 point, and number cards are worth their indicated number. The player who went gin also receives a bonus of 20 points.
A player can knock when the unmatched cards in their hand, their deadwood, point value is equal to 10 or less. The knocking player lays their cards faceup on the table and their opponent can now layoff cards from their hand onto the appropriate corresponding sets or runs in the knocking player’s hand. You may not layoff to unmatched cards. Once you have finished laying off cards, the remaining unmatched cards point values for each player are compared. If the knocking player’s points are lower than their opponent, then they receive points equal to the difference.
If the non-knocking player’s points are equal to or lower than the knocking player, then the knocker has been undercut and the non-knocking player receives points equal to the difference plus 10 bonus points. Whoever didn’t receive points, loses the hand and deals the next. Keep track of how many hands each player wins. Play continues until 1 player reaches 100 or more points, then the game ends. The player who ended the games receives 100 bonus points. If their opponent didn’t score a single point during the game, then they receive another 100 bonus points. Each player then receives 20 bonus points for each hand they won, these points do not count towards the 100 needed to end the game. The player with the lower score loses, and if playing for money, would pay the winner the difference in their point value. - Jak na to + styl
Before I explain anything to someone, I always picture you saying it in my head. I love your videos man.

I learned how to play by a friend showing me when I was a teen.
I was hoping this video would be a good refresher but I'm thinking maybe having a practice game or 3 to demonstrate might have been more helpful for my dusty old brain.
Regardless I thank you for sharing this
Alternatively, a gin bonus is 25 points instead of 20 and an undercut bonus is 25 points instead of 10. Also, there’s another rule called going “big gin.” A big gin bonus is 31 bonus points.
This guy is great. Excellent communicator--and explained a complex game in 4 minutes. Thankyou!
Instructions not clear. Cards now in bin.
🤣 genuinely made me laugh
In my opinion, the instructions are clear.
@@8317dh you really are a dull blade
@@8317dh he should of started with ten cards are dealt to each player
might as well call it Bin Rummy
Excellent tutorials. I didn't know about discarding a card face down when a player goes gin.
Very straight-forward explanation. Thanks!
What is the consequence for knocking above the knock card? Thank you.
Is the reshuffle or as we called it the" Frishee rule" where both players can be redelt a new hand a legitimate rule?
I love it when Otis is trying to teach Barney how to play gin rummy.
Thank you, don't mind if I do!

I love Andy Griffith
Great video, explained it so clearly that my 10 year old sister, whose first language isnt English, could follow the whole thing and immediately start playing and winning 😂
Would you guys explain the rules of the discard pile
In my country we play Rummy with two decks of cards mixed . And we serve 13 cards for each player .
I find it much more enterraining and challenging .
Scala 40?
Very helpful 👍
Wow not many people are interested in rummy or gin rummy
@2:19 Q,K,A are not a valid run, since A goes before 2. Here knocking would not be possible. In the next shot a J appeared magically.
Notice that when he switched to the view of the non knocking player laying out his cards the ace is now a Jack. He noticed his mistake too but didn't reguit the first part.
According to Hoyle, a Gin bonus is 25 points, not 20. Same amount for an Undercut bonus, not 10.
2:21 When your opponent knocks, can you as defender see their melds before choosing how to make your own melds? (To layoff most efficiently)
I’m assuming yes, based on how your video displays it.
I ask because 1:48 decision would ideally be made at the end of the round right?
Can you make that how to play cards
One thing the video missed is big gin. A big gin is when you draw a card at the beginning of your turn and that card is a part of a set or run. So you have no deadwood out of your 11 cards, you receive a bonus of 31 points if you get a big gin.
Variations may have a gin bonus be 25 points and the undercut bonus be 25 points. The line bonus (the amount of points received for each hand won) may also be 25. In some other variations the shutout bonus (the bonus given if the opponent did not receive a single point) doubles your points instead of adding 100.
Also, a undercut is not possible against a gin or a big gin.
This bloke explained the game well. Easier if you learn rummy first.
I think it’s very clear.
Thanks.
Very good

Check out the awesome Mr Belvedere episode where he teaches Wesley how to play Gin Rummy...and Wesley completely clobbers Mr Belvedere every time (even though he has "played against tournament champions")...on their first ever game/round Wesley goes Gin on his second turn!!
RULE CORRECTION: If a player knocks (unmatched cards = > 10), the opponents PAIRS COUNT AS DEADWOOD -- therefore, in this video, the TWO QUEENS would not be left out of the knocking players points - they would get 20 points for the pair of queens
Pal, I had the same thought at the first time I saw, but please take another looks again, there’re actually three cards, he just covert one down beneath other two.
Look closer, there are actually 3 queens there you just can’t see them well.
There were 3 Qs
A player is allowed to knock when his/her unmatched cards = 10 points.
As AnnJio, ZRQ AND Patty H wrote, there are 3 Queens in the hand of the knocker's opponent. Replay / pause video between 2:25 and 2:30. But, Taylor is correct that pairs count as deadwood.
So I’ve always just played that the first player to reach 100 pts wins the game. Why do you tally up how many hands you each win and what’s the purpose of the 100 pt bonuses? Is that all just for gambling purposes???
that's if you were going to play more than one game, as in you wanted to play for a longer amount of time. you could also just count one game as one 'win' and restart the game again like you're talking about.
Can you play this with two decks?
No for Gin Rummy. However, two decks are used for 5-8 players in Rummy 500.
All I can think of is that one Golden Girls episode that explores Dorothy and Sophia's ongoing rivalry in Gin Rummy.
SOPHIA: Gin!
DOROTHY: *throws dishes*
XD
Well song
Gin!
We always played Ace high, 2 low, we always played face cards 10, Aces 15, and all other cards 5,
There's only 1001 ways to play
Oh my god
What is not?
A gin can be a SET or RUN / SET and RUN ?
And/or. All that matters is you don't have any unmatched cards. If your entire hand makes one run, you can go gin.
@@himethisisme okay.
Instruction unclear got beheaded by a murder drone
What does under cut mean
Replay 2:49 - 3:02. An undercut and its scoring are explained.
Well Game
That's a lot of money to be gambling especially back in 1909!
Easy to understand, though I don't understand why you would receive 100 bonus points if your opponent hasn't scored any at all during the game. Surely that would be redundant, as you've clearly won?
It’s for when you are playing for money. Example if you were playing a penny a point you would receive an extra dollar (100 points) from your opponent for dominating him so badly. It keeps the opponent from conceding a game when very far behind. Makes every point count.
gOOD GAME
what happens if the entire draw pile is used up and there is no winner?
If it happens I shuffle the discard and start it again
Or it’s a stalemate and you keep your points and start a fresh game.
That wouldn’t really happen since if only two cards are left in the draw pile, the round is either finished and neither player gets any points or canceled and is re-dealt.
0:39 It’s “opponent”
Is this game so hard or am I just so dumb? How can you concentrate on ranks & suits at same time? I always try to keep same rank cards near each other but I always loose. 😭
@@KRATOStheGodkiller-pv8sy now I'm improving.
Try playing on cardgames.io
It's "lose" not "loose" if that helps.
If it’s tough to concentrate on this game, try Poker :)
@@slyden12 try chess
And what about a big? Because in the Gin Rummy there is a thing call a "big".

Lol😂😂😂😂
Don’t you receive 25 bonus points for going “Gin”?
you knew jim and bob???
Remi
Why is A-2-3-4 not a run?
A run must be suited
Can 3 people play gin rummy?
Yes
I think when you have 4or5 people you use a double deck.
You could also deal 7 cards each. For example
JJJ 4444 winner
this is like spades?
I don't remember this.
hes not on the team because hes still playing ......he aint here cuz hes a ride .....see we move on ...my leadership is respected .....u want some sea world ride as a freind .......
This is the most confusing explanation ever. We play a different version. No melding or difference valuation. Just simple remainder points totted up and out of how many rounds whoever has the lowest amount wins.
You just made a game unnecessarily complicated
