Patti LaBelle and Martha Reeves turn me on to Dusty Springfield now I know the face of her music 🎵🎶 Dusty Springfield have pipes she can blow/sing 🌬️
Her last note on when to leave is marvelous, perfect, amazing. But it is Dusty.
Perfect!!! The BEST!!! ❤️ The only Dusty Springfield👏👏👏!!!
Oh my god, her version of "UP On the Roof" is sooo beautiful! I'm almost crying...
THE AMAZING DUSTY - a truly great singer.
A Goddess. And a very human woman with an incredible, extraordinary, soul-uplifting talent. Beautiful.
Beautiful woman, beautiful voice!
voice of an Angel... the Superb Dusty Springfield... xx
DUSTY AT HER BEST .,
..Knowing when to leave from the musical PROMISES PROMISES is truely MAGICAL .. RIP
That's how it's done alright....that last note of "Knowing When To Leave" is the icing on the cake. Best interpretation of "Up On the Roof" by anyone ever....wow. Soulful perfection!
I adore Dusty and she does a great job on this song but I prefer the original version by the Drifters and after that Laura Nyro
Knowing When to Leave is a very hard song to sing - she makes it look like duck off a water's back. Phenomenal job although truncated. Her approach to Up on the Roof is truly lovely - so heartfelt and simple and yet so hip at the same time. A GEM!
When I watched her on tv during the 70's I thought she looked so beautiful and sexy.
She is extraordinary. Thank you for posting this. She said in an interview once that she sees herself as a “Method singer”, meaning she really acts the song. She certainly does. I saw her look down from the rooftop and was right there with her. A great artist.
The first song is such a difficult one to sing, but she nails it. Up on the Roof, gets Dustyfied. I love it
Absolutely!
Karen Carpenter also sings this.
Kenny Lynch did a great cover of this.
It's playback and i think she's loosin it..a little!
Amazing
Her version of “Up On the Roof” is just -chef’s kiss.
She performed Bacharach & David's 'Knowing When to Leave' a lot on TV but it's a shame she never recorded a studio version.
Simply, the best, period!
Well said. Peerless.
One of my favourite Dusty TV recordings: gives heartfelt a new meaning. Superb and affecting. Thanks for posting.
'Up on the Roof' is just sublime, truly perfection set to music. She's so vulnerable, so in the moment, so beautiful. Just my favorite voice ever. Thank you so much for sharing; I never ever tire of hearing and seeing this.
My pleasure! So glad this brought some joy to you.
One of the best versions of Up OnThe Roof! Dusty gave so much to this song.
hnc52 Agreed! She totally made it her own :)
Dusty IS pure class and elegance.
Of the four occasions that she performed each of these songs for television, I believe this is her best live vocal for both songs. -- Sir, would you have the other three times she performed Up on the Roof? She sang this like a recording! Just perfect! She speaks to me and I speak the song!
I just love this. Oh I wish she was still here.🤗
Yes, I often feel like that about great singers. And Dusty was certainly one of the very best.
She was SO awesome! One helluva performance right there!
Dusty is so Beautiful and her voice no words!
Thank your I Giuseppe - both songs are beautifully performed with the great song Up on the Roof given an unutterably memorable rendition. Never heard that song by Dusty before with such a vocal and wonderful slow tempo orchestral backing. What a singer!!
Dusty singing is out of this world : vulnerable but insistent,
Dark but bright, cool and warm at the same time. She could cover an enormous expanse like this appearance and brings you down with emotional feelingwith her voice, I adore her. Thanks Giuseppe - and yes I only bought original CDs of hers
Dusty only sang songs that perfectly matched her emotions particularly in her heyday;,she really "lived" through her singing and she conveyed all her emotions and vulnerabilities through her magnificent and unique voice .The range of music she successfully sang dwarfs just about any of her contemporaries, both Male or Female;I think that is why she got "lost" for several years, because she really didn't know EXACTLY which genre to choose as most artists have to eventually;I would have heard her sing more jazz, Broadway or classic music(a la Streisand) over the years;there was Nobody like her and how lucky we were around to hear her in her prime.God Bless you Darling Dusty.
@@rodneydixon1259 Well said, Rodney.
I write songs every time I listen to dusty I get inspired
she was one of a kind
up on the roof is beautiful and I love the drifters
Gorgeous.
My pleasure! I agree with your sentiments regarding this performance. Top notch Dusty material here :)
Sounds a little like Promises Promises. She's one hell of a singer!
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face
My pleasure!
Of the four occasions that she performed each of these songs for television, I believe this is her best live vocal for both songs.
This ties with Laura Nyro's version for passion and intensity... Dusty's interpretive skills were next level.
Wow, stunning rendition🙏
She is so talented , beautiful and perfect!
Unfortunately cancer killer her so early
This "Knowing when to leave" tempo is my fav vs some slower version she performed of this song. Too bad (like another person said below) she didn't make a studio recording. Thx for posting.
UP ON THE ROOF
Sung by Dusty Springfield on the Rolf Harris Show 1971 July 23
When this old world starts getting you down
And people are much too much for me to face
I get away from the hustling crowd
And all my cares just fade right into space
On the roof
It's peaceful as can be
And there the world below
Can't bother me
Let me tell you now
When I get home feeling tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all that rat-race noise
Down on the street
On the roof
The only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
O-Oh, let’s go
Up on the roof
Oo-ooh, oo-oo, h-hmm
Yeah, come, baby
At night the stars put on a show for free
And darling, you can share it all with me
Come on, let’s go
Keep a-telling you
Right slap there in the middle of town
I've found a paradise that's trouble-free
So if this world starts getting you down
There’s room enough for two up on the roof
Up on the roof
Everything is all right
Up on the roof
Oh, come on, baby
Up on, up on the roof
Up on the roof
Songwriters: Carole King / Gerry Goffin

Year?
July 1971
Who wrote up on the roof
Carole King and Gerry Goffin.
Dusty loved recording King Goffin material as much as Bacharach’s. ❤
Thanks
They have talent too
Rolf Harris turned out a bad one didn’t he.
I noticed some old school drag queens seem to be influenced by Dusty Springfield after seeing this video .. movements make up hairstyles
いイワキ
Really beautiful woman (except that hairdo),but especially a good singer
Annarita why are you always nitpicking? You sound like a fool! Keep it to yourself no one wants to hear it!
