Lets not ignore the fact that Usman used his entire bag of tricks. Fence grabs, fake eye poke, glove grab and pretend low blow. This is as much a part of his fights as his wrestling.
Absolutely unreal
“Don’t let him bully you son!” Man that head coach was on fire all fight, mad credit to him for that rally by Leon and the outcome.
One of the most emotional speeches from a coach that Edwards got.
The fact Leon survived all the rounds and still had the ammo and skill to make that shot. Beautiful.
The way Leon set up that head kick was perfection. 1st guy to take Usman down, mount him, took his back and nearly got the RNC. The altitude definitely had an effect on Leon. Usman trains at altitude with already insane cardio. The trilogy will be interesting.
Leon's Coach between the 4th and 5th round said "stop feeling sorry for yourself Leon!!..."
One of the most amazing moments in sports history. Dana said it best.. It was a holy crap moment shared by everyone watching in the arena, at home, in bars, or where ever. Bless you Leon Edwards for giving us this gift.
I refused to go to sleep until I had Chaels take on this whole senario. Uncle Chael never disappoints
Except GSP was 25 years old, not in his prime and had a lot to learn still and Usman is 35 years old in his prime. Not the same. But Usman had quite a run, but he isn't GSP. GSP also had 9 title defences in WW devision, Usman had 5. He had a long ways to go to catch GSP. He is GOAT #2 for the division but not close to #1.
Leon was DEFINITELY broken in-between rounds when he wouldn't look at his coach, which is why this turn-around victory was such a shock. His body language was terrible... But he turned it around and landed the perfect kick. It's never over until it's over!
Headkick heard around the world. Against the P4P #1 who had never been knocked out, after he was already dominating the fight, in the last minute of the 5th round when his coach gave him an epic rally speech just like the Rockie movie. Top 5 moment in UFC history all time
Edwards coaching team made the difference. His head coach’s speech after the 4th was epic. You can hear them call for the head kick 2 seconds before he landed it.
Making the point that Usman is now where GSP was having lost when he wasn't supposed to (presumably he means to Serra) is all well and good but Edwards fully earned his shot. Also, the idea that Usman will just 'put things right' and win easily next time is all well and good but he's had two full fights (almost) with Edwards now and the only danger Edwards has ever been in was on the scorecards. Not once was he really hurt or in any dangerous positions. Edwards had Usman defending a triangle for well over a minute in the first fight and was attacking a RNC for over a minute in this fight and then knocked him out cold.
I will remember that fight for my entire life. Leon I've been behind you since day one. Never faltered, never stopped shouting your name at 170. You made promises and kept 100 and true to yourself, I thought you were real and I invested, I believed you were telling us all along, for years, with your choice actions and words that you work quietly and you work the hardest, and many saw that humility and careful purpose as tentative or scared. I could not be happier that your private and pure determination have been vindicated and you've been proven right. A truly top tier wrestler and striker. What a story, what a fighter. Big up Leon Edwards! What an incredible gift for Jamaicans and Brits everywhere.
Leon’s life story up to this point would make an epic movie. Clawing his way from defeat to becoming champion with seconds left on the clock. Purely magical.
leon edwards, arguably the most overlooked, unlucky and disrespected fighter ever has finally gotten to show the world how good he really is. it couldn’t have been written better.
Probably one of the more powerful videos I've seen. Great message, great fight!
your one cut videos are perfect. cheers CS
Absolutely unreal, this is what mma is all about. Incredible
