WRONG! If you’re calling Toms belt make believe or fake what are you calling jones belt?! They’re both equally fake championships. Jones avoided Francis for years. Go watch their trash talking. Francis dominated now Jones is injured fighting random heavyweight bum in the gym. Jones never reached the levels Francis has. Jones is fake heavyweight champion. Got a lucky win. Refusing to fight anyone else but Stipe.
Getting injured versus random bum was the best thing to happen to jones in a while. Now he has great excuse for avoiding everyone being scared of heavyweights. Before no good excuse except for failed drug tests. He’s looked like a coward for a decade when it comes to talking about heavyweights. Admitting he’s not ready. Saying heavyweights were too big. These are things Jones has been saying for a decade.

Dont remember him ever complaining about Gane getting a shot of the belt who was 1-1 in his last 2 and only has a few notable wins on his record. Punishes champs with backed up divisions. Volk didn’t defend 145 belt for over a year because there was no one to fight. Islam couldn’t defend last August (six months after the 1st Volk fight) because Oliviera/Dariush was June, Volk/Yair was July, Chandler was on TUF, Poirier/Gaethje was also July. It sounds good on paper but gets complicated real fast. I think Islam should’ve just fought Dariush for an easy title defense but UFC didn’t want to risk him not being ready for Abu Dhabi

You say that Islam “couldn’t” defend, because all the other guys were booked or otherwise engaged… but the reason all the other guys are booked or otherwise engaged is simply bad planning and management of the division on the UFC’s side. That might be in part because of the extra pressure put on by having so many shows to fill in the ESPN era, but that’s a different conversation entirely. Fact is, if you tell the matchmakers that you need 2 title fights a year, or, say 1 every 8 months, then they can plan around that and make it work. Divisions only get backed up and milked dry like that *BECAUSE* they know that they can sit guys like islam on ice and simply have him wait. If they didn’t want that to happen, they could change it. Simple as that

Regardless of the name, there should be zero situations where a Champion doesn’t fight the interim champ when they’re both healthy.

The thing that bothers me with this whole situation is that Jon doesn’t have a shred of decency in this situation. Which I don’t blame him for, so many people still believe Jon to be this big bad guy because during his fights with DC he absolutely was the heel, a cool heel but the heel nonetheless. So for him to continue to run with that doesn’t bother me and in fact I would encourage him to do that.
But if Jon is the competitor he claims to be there’s no chance he thinks that beating an older stipe now versus beating a young and hungry Tom is better for his legacy and exit. Win or lose i think more people will respect Jon more for unifying the belt because it’s the right thing to do. And again I totally see his argument “I fought the who’s who for 15 years, I’m owed this one.” And to a degree he’s right, but at the end of the day the audience is who dictates how the matchmakers make their decisions. And this is the fight business he’s lucky he even gets to cherry pick stipe for his retirement fight because I truly think if it was up to Dana stipe wouldn’t even be in question here.
And don’t even get me started on the fact that Jon shouldn’t even be holding a damn belt right now, the only reason he’s allowed to hold that belt is because Dana gave him the pass, Jiri allegedly had the worst shoulder tear in history and was stripped in days. Jamahal Hill gave his back out of pure honor, which is a concept completely foreign to Jon jones apparently.
Well Jon Jones is the one who sacrificed his body in that octagon for over a decade he's the one who reigned and still holds the record for most wins as light heavyweight champ. Jon Jones came back and fought a young and up-and-coming fighter and beat him in the first round Jon decided to call out Stipe. TOM WAS NEVER IN THE DISCUSSION FROM THE START JON GOT INJURED IN HIS TRAINING CAMP TO FIGHT STIPE.

I’m actually finding this topic frustrating, as it’s going on too long without any solution. I totally get that Jon is a legend and it looks like the UFC wants to show their appreciation for him by letting him hang onto the belt. But at the end of the day I just wanna see guys fight and not be talking back and forth. As it stands Tom is the interim champ, for whatever decision he cannot be given the belt as yet, but he still needs to prove that he’s worthy of the belt so give him a fight; end of.
Chael, I found it hard to believe that you have no engagement in this story. The Jones and Tom back and forth is currently the most talked about thing with millions of views on each tweet.
Every MMA outlet, CZcamsr and casual is talking about it. How is there little to no engagement?
We have an injured undisputed champ that can't fight & an interim champ, the self proclaimed "active" champ but that says he won't fight & would rather sit & wait while complaining about an injured fighter not fighting him. Then u have Stipe who was given a title shot & didn't do anything wrong to lose it rn to an interim champ who only got that opportunity bc Stipe's title fight was cancelled & postponed. It's a mess, that the UFC created & at the end of the day it's their call what happens. So whatever argument or side u land on between Jon, Stipe or Tom it's all just noise.

Tom did everything right. He made himself available. He made good use of his mic time. Bu5 his call outs were almost never accepted. He took the right fights and won. He is still playing the game and playing it well. But he's kinda reached a stalemate. He has this belt. The guys he's calling out simply dont want it. He has no leverage. Jones has the belt and and easier fight lined up with stipe. Stipe has already been champ and has been told he gets the next shot. Tom simply does not have anything either man wants. They dont need to accept the call outs. Most of the guys that tom CAN face wont generate a ton attention. Big risk low reward.

What should happen is Jon should vacate the HW belt thus making Aspinall champ. If the old timers Jones and Miocic ever drag their bottoms to the cage and fight it'll draw whether there's gold involved or not. They can make it a 5 round fight if it's a main event regardless if it's a title fight or not. The UFC treats Jon like the way a loving parent would treat their favorite wayward child. alright coach, ive been quite with predictions etc because i knew what was happening anyways. didn't wanna deal with alll the tony stuff, anyways i called for everything exactly as its going now more then a year ago. i dont think you get to get into a firefight with the russian assassin and beat him with skill then get ignored...and everything went as predicted. now tom has no choice but to be the baddie. they are both downplaying his achievement and it was no small task. so now tom should call them all out and including new competition claiming to be the best. only choice. when looking at it really stipe could beat aspinal. also jones could beat aspinal. but vice versa. this is the best top 5 has looked in a long time. now stipe is -1-1 against the lineal HWC and to see the jones fight is imperative as he holds the title. even if aspinal calls them out the problem is that. the closest we can get to a clear champion and the best fight at hw atm is still jones v stipe and see we cant overlook stipe. but aspinal for sure is the interim champion and will be first in line after stipe to solidify the HW championship. his expected wait time could be as soon as 1-1.5 years depending on factors. im making no predictions till we figure out whos fghting and when
