  • I wanted to show how to use the Vectric Aspire software to create segments for segmented bowl turning. The focus of the video is more about creating perfect segments on a CNC machine, more than it is about the bowl itself. We will do another video on actually assembling the bowl and turn it on a lathe.

Great video! Did you post the calculation slide as a PDF someplace? Thanks for the lesson. :)

I ran the spindle at 16000 and fed the machine at 1500mm per minute. Thank you for watching.

Good one, what are you feed rates and rpm?

Hi Jeff: To reduce the amount of material waste, wouldn't it be a good idea to use the "Nest Parts" command, unless the Nest Parts command changed the grain orientation?

You are 100% correct. This was actually before I even knew what nesting was LOL!!
      THANKS for watching.

Segmented turning works and looks best when you have the side grain on the outside of the wedge. You could nest them, but try to keep the orientation so you get side grain out.

@@cliffyboy76 Thank you so much... Actually never occurred to me. Explains a couple things. Thanks for watching too.

I was wondering if anyone has tried this! Problem is I can cut them on my segment sled for my table saw so much faster and just as accurate! Good video though!!

I did it as shown in video and it REALLY came out clean. To your point however, my wedgie sled on my table does in fact do it faster. Thanks for watching

I was thinking the same thing. I'm planning on remaking my segment sled with my CNC to make it more accurate. The table saw will make a set of wedges in about 1 minute. I was thinking of trying this though, as the wedges would be extremely precise from the CNC.
