Spiral Leg Wrapping

Use Vectric to make a spiral table leg. Just a quick note...I used a 1/2 end mill for roughing and a 1/2 inch ball nose for finishing. That wasn't reflected in Vectric tutorial but was corrected before machining. Use at your own risk. I am NOT an expert, this is for entertainment purposes only. have this only imperial dimensions, normal humans in earth 98% use today metric dimensions, today only 3-4 country use any old cavemen pre-history imperial dimensions. all use normal metric dimensions today.
First, fillets are a deal breaker for me, I agree a chisel is probably better to finish. Second, what do you do if it’s 4 separate work pieces and not one sheet. Example I want to use black walnut, it would be a lot of waste doing it the way you show. Third, can it just do the dovetails only. I could cut the outer dimensions on my table saw and mitre saw, would just need the end dovetails. Only had my cnc a few days.
Can all CNC Machine do this now? Like one infinity?
Can it do half blinds?
I think you overdid it a little bit with a dramatization of your brushwork
Very cool! You're motivating me to purchase one of these lathe attachments for my CNC.
Lovely What tolerance did you add to the pins and tails to get that snug fit ? -0.1mm on each ?
no need for glue
Just a stab in the dark, but maybe it's 'cause you use six digits for the width but just three digits for PI? Anyway, I enjoyed your video.
this is 7yrs old and im not sure if im understanding but you did holes to stop blow out on the first peice then the second peice you sent the bit straight through im confused maybe ypu didnt need to do the holes on the first peice?
not sure if this is a good idea or not. but have you ever used any kind of colored epoxy when doing you spiral cuts. i have to assume that it would have to be done while prepping your wood
Now I've got to cut a slot into my cnc. I've been thinking about doing it anyway, so this was my source if motivation. Great job, and I wish I had a big cammaster.
excellent tutorial. thanks,
That’s amazing. Are you sharing the file? I’d love to learn how ! Chris
Do you run this with vectric software, or do you need a gcode sender?
the number from the dimension that goes into the collet where I write it
Where did you get the pattern for the circles?? Trying to locate it, can’t find it.
Where was this video when I started.
I like how you get to the nuts and bolts of what I need without a lot of gimcrackery like other people show.
Hi Jeff Great video thanks
Thanks for watching !!
I'm getting an error saying No MarkerLayer Found when applying the Dovetail Toolpath Creator
A lot of lifes problems could be solved if we were just willing to ask; "What would Izzy do?" Love it.
This is unnecesary complicated, just search dor Milo Scott explanation for this.
very clever like but its really slow, have you fine tuned the process over the last 6 years at all to make it quicker?
Oh yes. Thank you for asking. MUCH faster now. I am actually woirking on video updates.
@@WorkAgainstTheGrain ah great look forward to that
Nice one Jeff, good thought provoking presentation
Thank you John. Appreciate the comment.
Beautiful job.
I just bought 6 qts of this. I found them on s reduced price shelf lol. Reg. price now is $36.95 per qt. I bought 3 qts of the tinted gray to use on a work table and paid $9.50 per qt. I went back thr following week and the price had been dropped to $3.70 per qt. I bought the last 3 which 2 were tinted "aged wood" and the other was clear. My instructions say to use a hair dryer to remove bubbles and to do it quickly because it cures very quick and they can be trapped inside it then later they make dimples in the surface. No mixing containers were included with mine.
Btw, why is your CNC so slow? You can certainly consolidate the straigjt channel followed by the dovetail bit by doing it all at once with the dovetail bit
Btw, visit Frank Horwath to see the magnificent, creative end grain and other milling Frank does with the hole in his avid table
I am very surprised that you, who are so well connected to the online maker communities, CNC and otherwise, took so long to implement this solution which has been used by other CNC makers for years Finally and in any case, good work latecomer b😅
I appreciate your comments and your watching the video. I published this 6 YEARS AGO, and I think you will find some of my older videos such as this one were the first of their kind. Thank you again for watching, and yes, I am very familiar with Frank's work. He is a brilliant man.
Great job sir thanks
I bought some for my kitchen cabinets & it looks like my cabinets are melting 😭 help please any suggestions lol
Aspire ? what about Pro or others?
Question, could you not just make the radius inside the dovetail? Essentially making a rounded dovetail instead of sharp corners
MANY MANY ways to do it. I was just showing one of them. Thanks for watching.
Let it make round corners then clean them up with a chisel
Nice video sir
Very interesting knowledge video
Hi, I have a question about round edges on the outer corner edge of the toolpath. For example at 5:18 in the video, the inner edges of the corner are sharp, but outer are round, is there a way to make sharp outer corner edges with the form tool. I suppose the form tool should be extracting the corner from the lowest Z height to the highest following the curvature of the shape of the tool.
Great video! This is exactly what I have been looking for and I already made the modification to my table. Is the file something that can be converted modified to work with VCarve Pro?
Yes, the exact same thing at 5:23 of the video can be drawn in VCarve Pro. Thanks for watching
Jeff, your CZcams is an outstanding tutorial. I'm guessing you might do quite alot of "educating" in your life. Greatly appreciated. This method has led me away from the Gadget Box which has many shortfalls. I was manually constructing a frame with square tabs (due to the shortcomings of the Box Gadget). Your tutorial is perfect for what I'm attempting to do. Thanks so much.
IMPRESSIVE !
Hi sir you wattsup
Great video. Simple, easy to follow, and to the point. Thanks!!
How lo d take yo complete dry
what did the inside look like?
Is the speed and depth of cut aggressive? how is your machine after some years of using? I never pushde my machine that way before but I will try
Great Video! Thanks for sharing the trial and errors. I really enjoyed the lengthy explanation. Is there a place to get Vcarve files and settings?
9 billion dollars is not to much?
well done sir- i have thought about doing DT on CNC but don't want to go thru the pain of spoilboard mod. - may be worth it though Thanks For sharing your process
