I think the assumption with the Annual Orangutan is that it’s highly dependent on the ability of the Goblin, something we can’t easily define and is therefore established by the person creating the scenario, Whereas the Orangutan has a set danger level that we can understand.
only question I have about the orangutan is how well it knows how to use the broadsword.

9:30 here is my favourite elephant fact. There are elephants in tailand who know that by law cars have to give them right of way and stop for them. So they purposefully stop trucks carrying plants and other produce to eat off the load then continue on

for those curious, the bird mentioned at 6:24 is the loggerhead shrike, which literally SKEWER their prey on thorns, barbed wire, or anything else sharp enough. they can't kill their prey themselves because they don't have strong enough talons so they resort to horrific acts of violence :)
Also commonly referred to as "The Butcher Bird" for those tendencies. A very neat little bird thats resourceful

Fun fact about crows and ravens: they're smart enough to know that cars apply a lot of force, and these use this knowledge for things like dropping a hard-shelled nut in the road so that a car can crack the shell open, to chasing a squirrel into the path of an oncoming car. In busy enough areas, they're even smart enough to drop nuts onto the crosswalks to lower the risk of getting run over themselves. Just wait for a red light, dodge the feet of the humans, retrieve the bag, and a corvid gets a nice little snack.
Crows and ravens are also smart enough that they know how to play. There are several examples of them getting plastic lids or whatever and standing on top of them to go down snow-covered hills, or even just forgoing their makeshift sled and just sliding down hills themselves.
Also I vote goblin, what the hell do I do if the orangutan spawns when I'm in surgery or something? Granted, I'd be interested in knowing whether or not other people can help me kill either one, or if I'm allowed to use my car to deal with the goblin, or if either one of them leaves behind a corpse upon defeat, or how aggressive they'd be, or if I can reliably distract them before swooping in for the kill, or whether or not I'm allowed to use a weapon on either of them, or if they're allowed to use other weapons, or if I eventually earn enough EXP to level up, or how skilled either of them are in ranged combat, or how big the goblin is, or if the orangutan is even good at wielding its sword, or etc. An interesting thing to consider about the orangutan though is that every day in that year he doesn't show up, there's an increased chance of him showing up the next day. On Jan 1, that's a 1/365 chance, but on Jan 2 only a 1/364 chance (assuming it doesn't immediately show up day 1), and so on, all the way to a 1/1 chance he shows up Dec 31 if he still hasn't by then. Plan everything important early in the year I guess
I was watching Summit and had it muted for a bit, and when I turned it back on, there was a poll in chat that said “Answer to Coney’s question?” and the options were “car goblin” and “orangutan” and I was just so confused. At least now I know what that was about. Good job Coney for getting the real question out to an audience of 50,000 live.

I'm really happy casual geographic is as big as is. I've spent so much time during car rides listening to random animal trivia and it's made things considerably less dull.

That annual orangutan thing, imagine picking the orangutan and having shitty luck where you kill it right before New Years and once you think it’s over it spawns right back at the start of the next year.
After Goblin 20 or 30 it'd just feel like business as usual, the only real concern I have with this hypothetical is do I also have to dispose of each Goblin corpse or can I just chuck it out on the street and let that part of the process be someone elses problem?

Idk, I think I'm gonna choose the goblin. The goblin is consistent, and I know when and where he'll arrive. Not to mention, if I have to have the goblin everyday, I'll be well practiced in goblin murder. And I can use the goblins remains to make hardcore decorations, or sell the skulls on Etsy

The fact that it's every time you start a car makes the goblin really tough, imagine you're going to the store. That's 1 goblin when you go to the store, 1 when you're going home and if your car ever stalls out have fun killing a goblin on the street. Daily life in countries like the us is car centric and the goblin will kill you through a war of attrition
I’d have to take the orangutan because I clean pools witch requires me to drive to different homes meaning I start a car like 20 times a day. But I won’t lie that the idea of the orangutan spawning like a dark souls invader at any time is frightening, but I can treat it as another chore like doing my taxes.
Coney, birds are hype! The way that they swoop and fan out their feathers to slow down and perch is so cool. Some look so sick and others are so pretty, I like crows/ravens, birds from the Corvid family… I get they are not really “nice” and are actually more of a pest to humanity, but I like their edgy look and they way they show dominance over other species

I love people being introduced to the Kea this way. Cause usually they’re introduced as the only alpine parrot in the world, intelligent enough to rival corvids and endangered due to them being native to one island in the world. Cause when you’re introduced to a kea like that, a New Zealander rocking up wanting to fight one sounds absolutely wild but they are menaces. It’s actually pretty notorious that they also mess with cones and road work signs if no one is watching them and can mess with traffic. Unfortunately spinning them around on your finger isn’t going to work, they’ll bite it off. They’re also bigger and heavier than what you’re prepared for.

I’d take the chicken any day. I’d work where I can walk/bike/bus to my job. If I ever have to get in a car I’ve heard you can snap a chicken’s neck fairly easily. Normally the hard part is catching it, but if it’s aggroed on you, you just grab it. You might take some pecks but that’s doable

okay but here's the thing right? If the goblin spawns with a WEAPON, like a really pointy stick, I think I'd go for the orangutan. Goblins may be small, but anything smart enough to wield a weapon is dangerous with a weapon, and I'd say a goblin with a pointy stick is equally dangerous as the orangutan. It also depends on if trains or other people's cars count for the goblin, how far the minimum distance is for the orangutan or goblin are, or if they can spawn INSIDE of you. If they can spawn inside you, the orangutan is instantly a better pick because you have way fewer chances to get an internal orangutan than an internal goblin. This does get countered however, if other cars or busses do NOT trigger a goblin. If the goblin is ONLY from your car, it is an obvious pick.
