Incredibly excited for this set, thanks for the detailed look. Also so glad the GWP is a fell beast and not a Brickheadz!
Really enjoyed your review from a builder's perspective. For someone who is relatively new to Lego and still learning the Lego element system, your explanation of what building techniques are being used is really helpful.
Wonderful video. I’m excited to build this. I’m one of those, more LOTR fan than Lego. I don’t plan on getting Rivendell. I don’t have the shelf space. But this will fit perfectly on an end table. This will be my third Lego build. I keep my collecting book related. Besides LOTR, I also love the Dune series. I built a Sandworm diorama a couple months ago. The first Lego building I’ve done since the early 80s. I believe Brick Co. is the company that made this. It came with the Blu-ray collection of the Dune and Children Of Dune Sci-fi Channel miniseries. After that I made the Lego Ornithopter. I had a blast building that. Of course, I went down the CZcams Lego rabbit hole. Who knows, I’ll probably make a Lego Star Wars set at some point. I’m thinking the Darth Vader head. But that’s down the road. Barad-dur should keep me busy for several months. Thanks again for a great video. It definitely boosted my excitement.
Luv your videos 😊 their so detailed, really appreciate them very much, thank you for this one 🎉
It will look good for a fright knight castle
Fantastic review! Thank you
It's a good investment if you are a mocer.
You can add on a bunch of black parts to create a back cover and close it up plus add on to it's rockwork.
Lego pick a brick has a variety of parts in stores to help on that. It can become complete with an extra 100-150$.
Not bad given that you can do a lot of stuff with it.
Also adding on a lava stream around it and lighting it up from underneath etc. A hand made box build, painted black and a poster of mordor with Mount Doom in the background and there you have a fantastic diorama, closed up with a glass at the front, ideal for the corner of your mancave.
Excellent overview, super helpful!
Great detailed review of all important features and tehniques. That big spikes at the top beside the eye are not new by the way, just recoloured. They have been used in "Mordor gates" in black colour decade ago.
Sauron is extremely disappointing in my opinion they should have given him the avatar legs and made the helmet and shoulder armor separate pieces.
That Avatar long legs are just weird, i am happy they didn't go for this choice.
About separate helmet and shoulder protection i agree.
@@janeznovak922 i just think to counter the skinny appearance in the legs they could give him the waist cape he had in the movie.
Amazing video mate
Love it❤
I feel Rivendell is clearly superior in nearly everything way
The only issue is display space.
I love the set (I would have loved it even more if it weren't lord of the rings). I will get it, I will most likely enjoy it , I might even get a second one if I get a good deal on it and if lego doesn't sap all my funds with the great releases of 2024, but it's nowhere near as good as the Rivendell set. The price is a bit high, the minifig count is low, it's a real shame they don't have more orcs. I could have gone with more of the non Gothmog orcs with different accessories on them, 2 or 3 of each would have pushed that count to 12 already. A much better number for an "army"
My biggest gripe with it, as always, is the amount of stickers they are using and lack of prints. As most stickers are non essential, I can live with it, however it's no excuse for a set this expensive to opt for the cheap version of decorations. Love the eye though, and that is sure to spark a lot of useful side builds with it.
Let's hope it sells well enough that they have to make some smaller sets with those orcs (and some more Ring Wraiths. Getting 9 GWPs is unrealistic.
On another note, we finally have a black castle (so we might actually get in 1-2 years a remake of the classical black castles to match this one).
Im a huge, huge Lord of the Rings fan. I prefer it to both Star wars and HP. My largest issue with this set is that we never really visit it in the movie. We never see the interior of Barad Dur, in the books or movies. We see shots of it here and there. Its cool, but the whole interior is made up by lego.
So many other locations in middle earth are featured a lot more in the source material. Sauron in the set is from the opening of the films. He doesnt exist in that form at the time that the rest of this set takes place. All in all, it's a great display piece. But I'm a massive Tolkien and lego fan, and in many ways this doesnt appeal to me.
I would have voted for Edoras, Minas Tirith, or Helm's Deep. And the presence of stickers in such an expensive set is a major drawback.
@@SO-ym3zs I agree. All of those locations would be amazing in this sort of large scale.
Actually he does exist in that form in the movie they just cut it out ya can look it up on yt
Youve gotta say though the Barad-Dûr is one of if not the most iconic locations from the LOTR movies.
To be fair, Barad-Dur is one of the most iconic locations in the movies. People who aren't very familiar with LOTR are bound to atleast recognize the Eye of Sauron. As for his minifigure, The books are literally named after Sauron, it's surprising we haven't gotten a figure of him yet
LOTR battle packs are a necessity at this point we need it. Also, very disappointed in the sauron I've got a knock off from China that's 10x better than the official lego minifigure.
Speak for yourself. It’s going to go well for me.
As per the title of this video: No, no it can't. Rivendell is MUCH MUCH better.
I will admit I am biased; I don't enjoy most of the look of the tower; the eye is cool, but most of it either looks boring to me (all the black bits), or just 'out of place' (all the colored bits at the bottom). The interiors are mostly very plain and boring. And the minifigure selection leaves a LOT to be desired for such an expensive set.
I want more LotR Lego, but this is not it.
So yeah, Rivendell blows this set out of the water.
Watch the video where the developers talk about it and the interiors are really cool and full of easter eggs.
@@GoatzombieBubba I've watched it. The only neat feature I saw was the secret palantir. Otherwise these rooms really don't mean much and I think that's because we've never actually seen these places in the movies. It lacks the substance that for instance a place like Rivendell DOES have.
Stickers. Boo! 👎🏻
Stickers are fine they don't have a way to print those types of elements yet.. they could tool something for it but then the price tag would be 2 grand for the set instead of 460$.
@@GoatzombieBubbalego overcharges for there sets already they could fit those expanses easily the6 just wouldn’t make 350€ in profit
