Wasn't really roasted by the public. More like a few botted accounts with bad takes that went viral with everyone shitting on them.

Anyone releasing a product should consider what an honest reviewer like Marques would say. Your marketing department may try slick presentation but it can't hide incompetence from a critic.
This whole affair is deeply stupid. Companies that don't want bad reviews can avoid said bad reviews by creating products that aren't badly reviewed.
It feels like deeply stupid is the only way to refer to it. Call a spade a spade. The moment you push reviewers to stop being honest because "someone worked hard on that", you get things like gamespot and IGN with almost entirely meaningless reviews.
Most importantly they must not invite bunch of reviewers to test and create content without reflecting on the issues they have.

$700 + $24 a month for that piece of crap. Does nothing revolutionary... sounds a horrible deal to me. Yeah a bad product made by a greedy company.

People are treating this like we're roasting a Girl Scout selling cookies and not a world-class team that raised 200 MILLION FREAKING DOLLARS.
SO on point. Launch it for 200 and accept the loss and the burns for a less-than-half assed product, then learn from it and go to the drawing board again. And then REPEAT until the reviews get good.
230 Million. 30 Million $ is a lot of money.
It would be gross to do this for some pre-launch product that's not asking for consumer money but the moment you want to sell a thing, PvP is enabled
To take the positive view, this will be a perfect case study for future start-ups on what NOT TO DO.

For a product that cost $700 plus $24 a month for membership; I think that product needs to be ready in every sense of what it supposed to do. Bad products get bad reviews.

He gave his honest opinion. The facts he pointed out substantiated the idea that the product was terrible and shouldn't have been launched. The developers were so eager to attract attention at this time, when most AI products are still in development, that they didn't care the product wasn't finished. And that's the only disrespect I see here: disrespect for the consumer, out of greed.

We're they "eager to attract attention" or just needed to raise funds to support their company? You've clearly never run a business. You can't just spend spend spend on R&D and never release anything to make money back.
@@gladitsnotme Come on, don't be naive. Humane is run by a former director of design at apple and has raised more than 240 million dollars already. This isn't a small startup, it's a money grab.
@@gladitsnotme If you get into this much of a situation in terms of venture capital funded R&D, you better be able to deliver a product or youre screwed. A quater billion is a lot of money, and the product just isnt that attractive for the consumer. Releasing this has nothing to do with running a business, its only done to deliver something to investors, not users...
@@CleanPickleRelish Thanks for agreeing with me. Investors aren't going to abide year after year with nothing to show for their investments. They had to release something even though it's not perfect.
The point of tech reviews is literally to save people from making bad decisions.
Including investors.
There are a lot that give great reviews for terrible products because they have an affiliate link.

He did a great job of reviewing products by actually using it and learning it and bring facts of the product to inform people.

Humane AI had raised 240 million dollars before the product had even come out. Don't be sorry for them. They knew exactly what they were doing and they knew exactly how flawed the product was. They decided to launch it anyway.

I'm mind-blown by the fact they got so much funding for such an inherently flawed concept.
Like imagine the concept was executed perfectly. If the AI was actually perfect and not the flawed slow mess they actually are shipping. It's always listening and knows your voice so you don't even need to press anything and just talk to it like you would a human personal assistant and they could do everything a personal assistant could do with the use of a smartphone or computer, but faster. It doesn't connect to a server and processes everything on the device for both speed and privacy. That software could be done and probably faster with a larger smartphone with more processing power while at the same time the AI being able to pull up visual content on the screen for me to check out that the pin would just suck at. What does their concept have over the same software running on a smartphone and using that directly or with a smartwatch as a terminal?
as someone who studied journalism in college, we should all be appaulding Marquez’s honesty and integrity. it’s really something that other creators should take note of.

Exactly 💯. He's one of the few with a large platform who just still gives his honest thoughts and opinions on products. Far too many creators these days just say what the companies tell them to say and aren't actually giving honest opinions. Basically defeating the purpose of a review.
This is what I miss about Colin and Samir’s older videos hopping on what’s currently trending 😎 the best part is now that they are more famous they can just call a big creator like MKBHD to get the inside scoop. Great work C+S team!
MrWhoseTheBoss reviewed the same product and rated it poorly.

If MKHD is too powerful as a content creator then Facebook, CZcams, X/Twitter are wayyy too powerful and unaccountable as they do more damage to any firm than this one creator could.

@@letsdomath1750 These aren't mega corps, these are start ups. They don't have the resources for that. So what, just don't release your product then? That stifles innovation. I don't want Apple, Google, and Facebook to make all the products.
@@WHALEx3 It's not wise to defend trash. Innovation still needs to actually show promise to be considered innovation. You don't need to be Apple, Google, or Facebook to manually check whether the new gadget you are using is working as it is supposed to be or not. If it is still glitchy and unreliable, it is a prototype at best, and if you want to sell that while promising full operational features, it is vaporware and a scam to hundreds of people. If the owners of this company and all of the people who worked on developing and testing the device are not doing their due diligence to have a minimum viable product ready for mass market consumption, table it. Plain and simple. Now, if you personally want to continue to support hucksters who are making big promises and simply underdelivering, I have a few charities that will gladly take your money.

Imagine getting a device for review and you know that it does like 10% of the things your phone can do but worse, has a terrible battery life, will not work without subscription and costs 700$. Respect to MKBHD for even trying to find positives and creating a balanced review.
I have always bought smartphones based on Marques's reviews & never regretted my purchases.
The one time when I didn't heed his review & went ahead was with the Nothing phone 2.
Marques said something golden in the Humane pin review - " buy the product for what it is NOW, not on the promises of future updates"
I didn't follow that wisdom & am stuck with a phone I'm dissatisfied with. And the future updates haven't materialised.
At the same time time as MKBHD's review, another very well known reviewer praised the NP2 to the skies!
I've learnt to respect honest reviewers like Marques even more, there are so few of them.
I'm so glad you guys jumped in on this one. Having the opportunity to see creators thoughts before a big video is awesome.

Actually the title was interesting to me enough that I watched the whole video and ended up impressed by what the pin is aiming to achieve in a few future iterations :)
Does that mean you would buy it today at the current price and believe they will really deliver on the update promises?
Not at that state and price no, next iterations maybe yes, i am thinking about it like for example a GoPro, we can make the same argument that our phones take better video but nothing beats a GoPro at what it is created for, when it first came out it was horrible compared to phones but in multiple iterations it became very good and unreplaceable even, if everyone said it is shit and dismissed the new idea then wr wouldn't have a GoPro now, to be honest i felt they were very hard on the product, they can maybe say don't buy it now but keep an eye on it in a few iterations, otherwise we are killing innovation.

I admire the videos he creates, such as those for the Humane AI pin and the Fisker car reviews. They have a impact on businesses. I see this as his job; he not only highlights the negatives but also showcases the positive aspects. He is an honest reviewer who produces amazing quality tech content! 😊

Yeah I could imagine they could see it coming. That's why they referenced another review he did so the discussion stemmed from a general point. Then probably after filming the backlash came and so makes the discussion even more relevant. Coz for some reason tech bros always have a go at the reviewers instead of having a go at the companies being called out or the products being called out. So MKBHD wasn't even the only major reviewer who gave this product a bad review there was a whole bunch of creators with similar honest thoughts about the pros and cons of it.

Marques is right that there aren’t really bad reviews for a good product. I’ve seen CZcams reviewers dislike some features of a product they may fully love otherwise but they almost always follow it up by “if that’s not a big deal to you, you may love this product”
This is the dumbest question to ask in my opinion. The real question should be, why aren’t these companies making good products!! Companies need to stop prioritizing market share and actually make a good product!! (This will be the downfall of Apple and many other Silicon Valley companies) These companies need to take some responsibility for what they put out and make the product better! They need to stop putting blame on their down fall on other people for their incompetence and lack of awareness
Because Colin and Samir aren't really honest themselves. Sure they are nice guys, but are marketing puppies for youtubers and the youtube brand. There is something insidious about being real nice and then calling somebody out that has a different opinion or going against the driving narrative of the platform.
Bruh, this whole hubbub was cause by people watching the review not the company. Humane took all the reviews well but some people apparently couldn't understand a good reviewer has to say it's bad when it's bad and it's good when it's good.

Next April 1st, I want a full MKBHD review of a cheese grater.
It seems as though some folks think that if your review/critic platform grows to a certain size your job must then shift to platforming and advertising products, rather than what you've build your entire platform on (namely, reviewing and critiquing).
I like Marques and I'm glad he's not afraid of criticizing products. And let's be honest here - that Humane pin is sh*t and everyone knew that from when they made their first presentation.
Great interview and super insightful the last part of you three talking about everything. Marques is true to himself and very honest, far from damaging his image this “negatives reviews conspiracy” only makes us trust him even more. Always on the MKBHD side of history.
speaking of influence, you two are pretty much The Reason I learn about any big content creator. The amount of times that I get recommended a new large creator and I see their thumbnail and I judge it harshly and just ignore it because it feels too click-baity (literally me two days ago with Marques' video) only to find out that you guys interviewed them and I see them as the person behind the video and start trusting them and wanting to watch their content is crazy. Like I think there's been over 10 now. Crazy to think these huge content creators are still not reaching *everyone* even when it feels like they already do. Thanks for all the interviews and I really liked this chill zoom version for something time sensitive!

MKHB is the Walter Cronkite of tech review. Hands down the most thorough and balanced reporting that I’ve seen.

I am a tiny kayak review channel, kayak reviews is a super small niche, whenever I say something remotely negative about certain brands I get attacked and label a hater, I say anyways lol
people on Twitter are butthurt because there's like an overlap between AI heads an people obsessed with early adoption that really wanted that product to work, but it simply does not.

These independent and unbiased reviews are so important for the customers. They balance out those sponsored reviews and ads.
I often find it hard to trust reviews because a lot of companies pay reviewers to only produce positive reviews.
All I can say I choose who I follow very closely for Years and if I want Honesty and truthful opinions I know who to follow. Thanks so much for sharing. 💯✌️
I would listen to MKBHD review anything, even though he has a clear niche that he is tremendous at.
Honesty is the best currency. And he is extremely economical and thoughtful with his commentary.
Why forgetting "for now" in the title in the title discussion.. the "for now" gives context about how he sees the glimpse that it might be up to something..
Absolutely, this post/interview was well balanced but it did leave that vital bit off their "critique". After all it focussed mainly on title impact but they didn't fully cover those two vital extra words. - rightly placed at the end as a sort, "let's be kind, patient and wait see"
I’m glad for the honest reviews. There are too many creators who review projects, good or bad, and they plug their affiliate link. It’s BS.
MKBHD at this point is much more than a CZcamsr. he's become a "figure" or rather "An authority" and Kudos to him for sticking to quality, seriousness, integrity and honesty.
I'm interested to see where this power he has accumulated takes him.

Interesting how no one seems to quote the whole title of the review and discuss the implications of the last two words. To me it's proof that people are trying to see what they want to see as regards Marques and his influence. MrWhosTheBoss has near as many subs as MKBHD and had the same opinions more or less but didn't get near the same pushback as Marques has. I think that should be discussed as it would give some insight as to each reviewers' perceived influence.
What did you all use to record this interview? It's done really well and it's one of the few interviews over the phone I've seen that you can both see and hear clearly!
Really digging this format of being very timely with what's happening. The podcast is great because you guys are pretty much spot on with time, but the fact that this came out like the day after or 2 days after his humane review came out and his own video came out was incredible. Because of course Colin and Samir should have that news for us

How as a company nowdays do you have a bad product? You have testers in house. Why are the testers clearing this to go in to production?
Because sometimes first to market is the goal even with an inferior product and many times it works.
Because the business plan says so and PE's are impatient by their nature.

As someone who reviews wildlife photography gear, I feel obligated to my followers to give the most honest review possible so that they can spend their hard earned money properly. It blows my mind that people would want him to sugarcoat things for the sake of the company.
I love the honesty honestly, I believe the bad reviews more than I do the positives.
Nobody says Mr. beast is too powerful or the Logan brothers or Casey Neistat. But I have recently heard the question of if these reviewers are too powerful with two very popular Black reviewers - Keith Lee and MLBHD. Why is that? Many movies, food, and technological products are excoriated by large influencers but no one questions their size. So why did you choose to word the question as such? (For reference, I am a 53yo Black woman who watches many channels and I do notice the differences that some creators experience than others.)
MrBeast, Logan and Jake Paul and Casey Neistat are not reviewers and don't make content around product reviews, like Keith Lee and MKBHD. People have many options for food and tech products why would they want to spend their money on something's that bad. The Humane AI Pin is bad, every single review from CZcamsrs to the press have been critical. MKBHD isn't not an outlier in his assessment, he just has a larger following.

I think you guys made a great point about consistency. And Marques has always been consistant. Even with his Auto Focus channel he aims for all the same deliverables that people are looking for, but does it in a fashion that everyone can understand. I have always enjoyed watching Marques' videos, so when he mentioned it was the "worst product ever... for now", I wanted to find out why. And now it's in Humane's court to see what they will do with their product, and will they succeed or buckle?
To be fair, I really don't see the point of this video. He seems honest, and that's the most important thing. I appreciate that he's constructive rather than destructive.
The title and thumbnail is being taking so seriously because he’s not one to clickbait and it looks like clickbait but it’s accurate to what the video is just like all his other videos are
I get why Marques is the Goat for tech reviews, but I've seen MrWhoseTheBoss review one day earlier than MKBHD and it has almost 2M views too. It was also negative .... they have approximately the same number of subscribers... and MrWhoseTheBoss had also the creators of the pin in the video... So why is MKBHD's video so much more impactful? I genuinely want to understand ...
i think is because MrWhoseTheBoss is a bit likethe buzzfeed of reviews, with some videos in which he buys random silly stuff, Marques on the other had is always serious.

Collin and Samir are the greatest ass kissers in CZcams history. It’s their whole networking concept at this point. No critique just straight up glazing.
The line of questioning was suspicious too
The trouble - for companies trying to sell you crap - is that a well-thought-out, detailed review, especially when very articulately presented, can really puncture their bubble. The bubble they inhabit when they're actually developing this product, which prevents them from realising it is, at best, a solution in search of a problem. I watched some people from Humane listing the wonderful things their little device could do - and I just kept thinking "already got a phone".
A huge amount of people, me included, knew that this product, or the Rabbit R1, were either bad or released too soon, before Ai could be perfected. All we cared about was to see how bad, or more like how premature theses products were in the hands of people used to try new pieces of tech.
The only important thing is: if you are interested in a product, and want to learn more about it before buying, watch/read as many as reviews as possible, from very different reviewers.

I remember seeing the marketing for the pin a LONG time before I actually saw the Mkbhd video. If I'm not mistaken, it was marketed toward people in need (the elderly, disabled, immigrants, etc.) and not people who have a bunch of money looking for a new widget to play with. Reviews like his don't damn companies who make great products. These reviews protect people who don't have much from wasting money on products marketed toward them that don't help them.
The 'Apple' question is very valid. It's not that you can't critize their products, it's that Apple really likes their products portrayed in certain way - or you don't get access to them early. For example they dislike Linus Tech Tips a lot, even though they are fair in their criticism.
I love when reviewers give their honest opinion. And I get disappointed and somewhat angry when some “reviewers” say at the end of their “review” that it is up to what the buyer wants.

There's a vast difference between a straight up review and adding something like, "this is the worst product I've ever reviewed." That's not necessary for an honest, good review, it's just clickbait. That's the difference for me. Love the guy's reviews!

Marques has grown his reputation based on the quality of his videos and reviews. I think of him as different than an "influencer". His primary mission has been to inform. As long as he can continue to keep to that mission I don't think he needs to "consider the weight" of the publish button. He is not the kind of reviewer that relies on primarily negative content - which people gravitate toward because that's what the algorithm seems to reward with exposure. Emotion sells. He doesn't do that.
