    The real problem right from the start was the fragmentation into different servers, these days you solve that with shards like GW2 instead and only have one server. I suppose the reason it is like this is that they wanted a smooth transition and no zoning while travelling the world, but the price to pay for this minor thing is just not worth it.

  • @_fitzyy
    @_fitzyy Před měsícem +77

    As someone who spent nearly 3k hours in the game, the absolute biggest downfall of the game isn't really something that the devs could change. It's that the hardcore war guys have multiple accounts so they could participate in as many wars as possible. And you can't really blame them at all because the wars were fun as hell and that was all there was to do for a very long time. I was in tons of wars in a good company and the feeling of war is awesome, but there are the top tier guys who play the game like supple and dropouts who are just way above anything classified as a good company and if they decided to have people on your server, it was either you slot them or the people you were warring against would slot them, lowering your chances of winning. This happened to every server and it'd piss off people in your own company for noy getting slotted, they'd stop playing, and it was a domino effect. I don't know what the state of the game is now in regards to that, but I saw more people quit from this reason than almost any other reason outside of the original major dropoff of players

    • @JediMasterT
      @JediMasterT Před měsícem +2

      I agree with mostly what you said....the bottom line is exactly what asmon said...the more you get into it the harder it becomes to have fun.
      End game PVP has always been a huge issue, the whole thing needs to be redone and everything they do to try to fix it doesn't work. There just isn't any end game PvP other than War which is controlled by 3 companies across 10 servers lol.

      Can't agree more ! This was one of the biggest problems I had with the game after 2k hours playing,loving and hating it.

    • @DevMP
      @DevMP Před měsícem +7

      War system has been incredibly flawed from the start. Having something that important for the game and the community on the server as controlling a town and closing it behind a 50v50 30 minute long battle played on a small map just can not work. It became elitist, toxic and not fun at all.
      Much better idea would be to have a week long war, something like guild wars 2 had(have) in WvW mode where the whole server(in case of NW that would be faction) worked for a week towards a common goal on 4 big maps(again, that would need to adjusted for factions size). You had enough space for everyone, good guilds could fight each other, people who liked working towards upgrading keeps and securing supply camps could do that, random people were able to gather and run together led by a random commander(who then became more and more known as they lead more) and there also was space for players, who just wanted to enter alone and have fun for a short period of time. You just can't design such an important part of the game without thinking about casual players.
      But when you realize, that New World in development process was designed to be a HARDCORE PVP GAME, then you suddenly understand where all those flaws come from. Too late they understood that its a shitty idea and had too little time to add enough content(like PvE endgame) and to work on all the important systems

      @otoanskye Před měsícem +3

      This is EXACTLY why I don't play. You're either in the war scene, in a war guild, or you're getting stomped on. If you don't have VODs you can't war. You can't even get into wars and gain that experience because of people like these top end guilds. Every time I have come back, fresh start and expansion, there have been 1-3 war guilds that dominate the entire server and refuse to let anyone else have fun.
      I heard they made a pvp server specifically because the players were saying 'hey if we did this it would get new players more experience in wars'. and then the people in charge of sending out invites literally only sent out to people who had vods, who were already established in the war community, or who had friends in the war community already.

    When I was a kid I played a Disney MMO Toontown, and your character wasn’t locked to a server, you’d sign in, load in whichever character you were playing, and had the freedom to swap between servers. If you wanted to do group stuff you’d go to one of the more full servers but if you wanted to chill, do solo stuff and have super fast connection you could go to a less populated server. I wish New World didn't fuck up so badly.
    I played it with a large group in the beta and on release. Validus had territory and we absolutely destroyed other groups in PvP. Unfortunately we also saw a lot of bugs and exploits firsthand. The server cap absolutely also caused us problems.
    Imagine having a territory you fought hard to get get taken away by a group that stooped to using invulnerability exploits and server lag exploits to take it.
    That was new world in the first few months and that killed our engagement with it.

    • @MrRhoidRage
      @MrRhoidRage Před měsícem +6

      The invulnerability bug was not actually used in wars, that’s nothing but a cop out for people who were bested. it could only be achieved by holding your windowed mode game with the mouse after activating the ability, rendering you otherwise useless and a detriment to your team.
      Sure, there were exploits that plagued the competitive realm but invulnerability was not one and speaks volume on your companies knowledge of the game if that’s their excuse. Also - everyone dealt with the same lag, it was no worse or better for either person regardless of how it was created. Gear and good shotcaller is the only things that mattered back then.

    Another aspect of Runescape that simply makes sense with regards to the MMO genre. You have world servers that are independent of the player's characters. The player logs in and then picks a world server to play on. They aren't stuck to it. It's a much more rational approach.
    I would love to someday see a revolutionary new MMO that takes this approach for servers and then takes it a step further by having things associated to individual world servers that players would seek to protect. If the "evil faction" wins, perhaps that world server is taken down or otherwise irrevocably changed. A different take on territorial conquest, I guess.

Played from the beta, did the PVP, was farming m10s, maxed all the trade skills, did every main and side quest, leveled every weapon to max, hit every lore page, got my 100 invasion wins and a whole lot more. I quit not long before they announced the DLC which cost $30 (for a game that cost $40 base). There are so many issues with this game and there have been fundamental problems that just haven't been fixed and design flaws with the base game that keep it from ever becoming good. Additionally, I have a pretty decent basis for complaints that I have considering the amount of time I have spent in the game and the amount of ingame systems and features I have experience with. Just because someone spends a large amount of time on a game doesn't disqualify them from having an opinion or being able to voice it. On the contrary, it is exactly those people who have such a familiarity and pure experience within the game that can and very often do provide the most insight into them. They wouldn't die, but they wouldn't be able to move either. It took them weeks to fix. Then the gold duplicating started happening... and there were more problems they needed to fix than they could reasonably handle. Newer problems that potentially ruined servers were lower in priority because they were still resolving older issues. Was just a massive snowball effect that got a lot of people to quit. The fact that they didn't even fix how light/medium/heavy armor worked in the game for months was already a major turn-off... and the fact that the information had to be datamined in order for the community to find out, when they should've just told us in the first place... that's broken trust.

      Oh, and the fact that your stash/bank wasn't shared between cities was also a major turn-off. So for example, City 1 had a lot of iron ore nodes next to it. You could mine the iron for a while and eventually you'd be over-encumbered... so you go back to city 1 to drop it off in the stash and go back mining. City 1, however, was controlled by an enemy faction... who raised the taxes by a metric fuck-ton, and processing your iron ore would be a costly endeavor. City 2 is controlled by your faction with very low taxes to process the iron ore. City 2 was a 7 minute walk from City 1. Have fun spending half an hour just fucking moving iron ore from one stash to the next so you could avoid going broke over tax fees. Shit game.

    the server sizes really screwed my fun in the game, I was scouted by a couple people when i switched servers with a buddy and me and him decided to go to the bigger company with higher levels as we could do content together but people in the company who were slotted for war we took their spots that they were promised because we were better geared and higher level. I didnt really mind at the time because yeah i get to join the war where i know we will win because every high level on the server was in one company and we dominated but not even a month after the server was pretty much dead. wars werent full teams and i think the main reason was because low levels were gate kept from doing the most fun content in the game. I havent played in a minute since that server started dying and i havent even thought of going back because as the cycle goes itll be my turn to get gate kept from doing end game content. To add insult to injury you do get stunned and hit a lot in the game so if you arent actually geared to do the content you get killed very easily which pushes foward the idea you need to have only perfectly geared people.

    I used to govern a company on New World with around 70-80 members on Amarah, where initially I just wanted to make new friends and run the content. After they started merging servers, we got merged with Lilith, and that's about the time they started introducing the capes and titles for being the best speedrunning or scorerunning teams. This was the peak of New World for me, but the issue I had was finding ways to include everyone. Not everyone wanted to run the Wurm Raid or run M10's (or M3's now) to earn capes, but wanted to be apart of a living PvE team.
    As someone who put 2200 hours in a single year, I'd have to say its the way they handle the variety of content. OPR would be fun if they just added two or three more maps and randomly selected one of them each round. 3v3's were fun and they came out with a new map at some point with the changes last summer. Essentially adding more maps and variety would've made PvP a lot more attractive to some of the playerbase instead of one map for each. I never got an opportunity to fight in a war, so I can't speak for it.
    The last big issue they had was with the new update it completely ruined the economy, and changing drops in both dungeons and open world chests made selling or trading on the market a pain in the ass. Before I could've run an M10 Expedition, get one really cracked item and sell it on the market, then take the coin and use it for crafting other BIS items I needed. After the big chapter two update where they introduced the first "beast" dungeon, ALL of the items in the dungeons became bind on pickup. So it forced players who had companies with hundreds of thousands of gold saved up, to do crafting, to go broke because it cost a fortune to upgrade one piece of gear. All this did was give players more of an incentive to seek out third party websites to purchase coin or "supporting small businesses".
    Ultimately for my Company, we moved on due to the game economy being extremely unreasonable and unfair. There was almost no reward for running dungeons on the new update, it was much harder, it required more coin than ever before, and the content wasn't inviting to new players, so we all moved on.

    With the 'Rise of The Angry Earth' story expansion, they have plans that go past Brimstone and Shattered Mountain, which isn't a small task. With that in mind, updating QoL, bugs, items, and supporting console release and cross server connections whilst developing new enemies, combat, items, and entire areas, along with lore, is a handful.
    I don't mind working on my main character again or making 2 more to reach lv cap with this possible upcoming expansion, because I love New World like that, but they'll have to possibly increase server cap, level cap, and/or introduce a new weapon to regain player count.
    Another issue is that if it's another paid expansion, players who haven't purchased the Angry earth expansion will be left behind even more because they're already barred from the new weapon, new area, mounts, and artifacts. I reckon, after going through the comments, we've all got our gripes with the game, but here's what ruined it for me: every single mob is packed with CC, making combat a real headache. Now, I get it, combat can be a bit wonky, but if that's the case, just make it a game where you pull loads of mobs and AoE them down, 'cause that's a blast. Even if combat's terrible, being able to pull a ton of mobs and wipe 'em out in one shot makes it somewhat enjoyable. But with this combat system, not only does it glitch out, but they also stuffed the mobs with way too much CC, which just makes it all the more aggravating. And then you've got to deal with running through mobs while doing "chest runs," which is just plain irritating. It's no fun being perma CC'd by mobs if you happen to get caught. Whoever came up with chest running as good content clearly didn't think it through. They need to tone down the combat difficulty and strip all CC from mobs.
