Thank you for this video! I have just started using the convection oven - trying to teach myself. I'm 80 and have never used one of these. And, I'm not a great cook. I've never seen a potato ricer either! Your video just taught me a lot. I'm encouraged. My oven is also used now for storage. Enjoyed watching you move through the steps. I will start with the pumpkin pie!!!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it and learned from our video. :)
Not many Aussies like Pumpkin Pie, so you are a treasure.
This is no ordinary pumpkin pie... But yes... Julie is a treasure. -M
Julie, my late grandmother was an excellent cook and baker and had a secret about baked goods - all of the calories leak out when you cut into it and the more you cut it, the more calories leak out!! [cookies have to be broken in half for the secret to work]
+46619TAB haha i love that tip! So if i just crumble it all up into a bowl and eat it with a spoon it's probably no calories at all! LOL
Nothing left but the dishes, must be really delish!
+PineMountainVentures Marc did the washing up - 3 big loads!
I can't live without my potato ricer! It eliminates the need for the hand mixer so many times. I also agree about the music... low volume level and a perfect music choice, subtle and not intrusive to Julie's presentation. Good show !
+Bob Cannon Thank you Bob - the ricer rocks! Amazing how few appliances one really needs, almost everything we use is multi-purpose.
Shows you how much I cook...that's the first time that I've seen a potato ricer. I've only seen potato mashers. It looks like a great kitchen tool. :-)
+Thomas Katayama it is!
Bravo! Take a bow! That looks yummeelishus!
+Thomas Katayama It was SO GOOD and we have leftovers for 3 days, yeah!
You are SO CUTE!!!!!!....and BRAVE! I am scared to death of my convection oven! I have been cooking for many years, and I guess I am just afraid to step out of my comfort zone. You are inspiring me!
+yescandles Oh give it a go it's so easy and I just made a key lime pie tonight, easy as pie :)

+Dizzy FOREVER Same to you - and thanks!
Hi Julie - thanks for posting. Our family is hoping to go full time this early spring. I've never used a convection microwave and I found this video very helpful. I just have one question - pure curiosity - why did you take the slow cooker outside to use?
I can always count on your videos to be positive and upbeat. Love this one! I'm going to have to make those potatoes for Christmas dinner!
+Cita Wanderloon Oh yes they are amazing, enjoy! :)
OMG.....Everything looks sooooo delicious....thank you so much for sharing. One question though....have you ever thought about doing a cookbook for full-time RV cooking? I think you would be perfect for it!!! Happy Holidays!!!
+MommaG hahaha thank you! You know I did think about that last year, maybe I should add it to my list of content I want to create! Happy Holidays!
Great looking meal. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Outstanding!!! Can't wait to follow in your footsteps.....
See you out there!
Hello Family, So very fun. Love the video and Jewls - No doubt you should be on the cooking channel. I love you both and as always we love traveling with you through your adventures. Look forward to your next post. Merry Christmas!!
I found your website and youtube post when researching my chosen RV. (turns out we have excellent choice in RV) Have to say, you have some great tips for "newbies"
Thanks Bill! Welcome, glad you found us. Another Tiffin owner eh? ;) We try to create content we would have liked to see when we were starting out so glad to know the content is hitting the spot :) Happy Trails!
Very nicely done. Looks so good. Thank you for sharing.
+Kayaker Don :)
Love the video.Have a Happy Christmas and a great new year to look forward to.Take care ,,,,,,Mark
+Mark Taylor Thank you! :)
Really enjoy your videos. Not into pumpkin pie so much and absolutely no sweet potatoes for me please. I do love that you cook clean. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
+Karl Benjamin Use any recipes you like! Apple pie would work great, made one of those last week. And any veggies would cook nicely in the slow cooker. We try to eat pretty clean and healthy for the most part, though this meal was kind of decadent being our Thanksgiving Feast! Happy holidays to you too!
WOW!!! Loving it!! Martha Stewart on the cheap and that is not a bad thing....Its the real thing! Now when you post the ingredients with annotations as a B-Roll that would be icing on the cake... Good Stuff! BTW I like the team effort!
+Tim “Tdub” rover Yes that is on my list to do - the annotations! Just published it in a hurry this morning as had a busy day and didn't want to delay it - will add annotations this week! Thanks for the Martha compliment haha
That looks fantastic, happy holidays! 😀👍🖖
+Jenny Harper You too!
That all looks fantastic! Well done!

Hello and welcome! Congrats on your plans to hit the road! Yes the recipes links are all at the bottom of this blog post rvlove.com/2015/12/23/small-kitchen-big-feast-rv-convection - it's a pretty delicious feast if I say so myself! Hope to see you out there! Enjoy the recipes :)

YOU ~ ROCK ! ! COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ERIC TO TURN THE COMMENTS ON...
I hope you have an Instant Pot now! They are so easy to use!
Yes i do! We use it at least a couple of times a week :)
WOW, that looks amazing. We do some meals in ours when we travel but nothing like what you two just did. Great video, thanks again. You talked of getting your turkey at Costco, we also get their turkey gravy there. It tastes as close to home made as it gets and has bits of turkey in it.
+Rick Garboden I forgot to add... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
+Rick Garboden MMM yummy
+Rick Garboden you - and you too!
I really enjoyed this video - please do more cooking ones. By the way, we are currently trying to decide which Class A and features to move up to this coming year from our current travel trailer. How do you like your booth seats - are you happy with them or do you wish you had the separate table and chairs kind? Thanks! Melanie :)
+BatShipCrazy | Mel and Steve's RV Adventures Great! We filmed another one today, will post in January. Actually we initially wanted the separate table and chairs and NOT a booth dinette but in our particular coach (which we bought pre-owned) the booth is really nice, a little longer with curved seat ends and loads of storage underneath which is great for storage of kitchen pots, pans, bowls, appliances! We love it! But there are many booths we don't when they are all square and blocky looking. We also like that ours is leather so it's easy to keep clean. It's also really great place to stow things away then you are traveling, like under the table - which you will see in another upcoming video in January - our pack down and move video! Stay tuned!
+RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett - Yes, I know what you mean. We have the small, boxy type now and I do not like it so that was why I wanted to hear how you like yours. I think having one larger and more comfortable would be great. We will be looking for a used Class A in 2016 and we are going to the Tampa RV show in January so we'll be able to get ideas there too! Thanks for your opinion! :)
This all looks amazing! Can you use foil or a browning bag in a convection oven?
+Lucian Manning Yes you can use foil, haven't tried a browning bag!? Try asking Google!
Great video, subbed :)
Thank you!
ok so where do i have to fly to for the next holiday meal happy holidays to you to
+Lawrence Constantine hehe when we know we'll let you know!
Do you reduce your cooking temperatures by 25° when using the convection? Also, do you find that the turkey or any meats, come out tough and not near as Fall apart-tender and juicy as the propane oven? I have the same microwave convection oven issue it was nice to finally find a video that's using the same one. Safe travels.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. We usually kept the same temperature (not reduced). We didn't use our propane oven much, so don't have an accurate comparison. -M
Very nice holiday spread, thank you for sharing. My husband and I will start full timing in February, I have concerns about cooking because I do not have an oven in the RV, only a convection oven. This is concerning to me since I most often cook everything from scratch (including bread). I have no doubt the convection oven works well for all my baking needs, but we intended to stay mostly in National Forests, so I may not have the power required to run that appliance.
Do you find you need to be plugged into shore power to use the convection oven?
+Cindy Higgins Cindy you can run the convection oven (and all appliances) powered by a generator! Ours is a 7K genny, so be sure yours is big enough to handle the loads. We could run all of our appliances simultaneously with our 7k Onan genny. We did cook a chicken pot pie in the convection using the genny while driving recently - see our Cooking While Driving video. I make virtually all our food from scratch too - in fact I bought my first breadmaker in the summer and love it! Now I am comfortable with the convection, I would feel comfortable never having an RV with a regular oven at all. I have even used the BBQ to make desserts! LOL. I don't think you will have issues as long as you have a generator or a solar setup. We don't have solar.. maybe one day!
+RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett Thank you very much, I think I'll be fine.
+RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett Fingers crossed :)
Great video and beautiful presentation. You would do very well on the Cooking Channel.
Just a guess but because you are using all the electrics, this may not work as well when you are boondocking. Curious about the need for power source.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
+Tim Combes Hi Tim, thank you! Too funny, never would have ever thought I'd be having a Cooking Channel worthy video! LOL When you are boondocking, you could power all of the appliances with your generator, depending on the size - ours is a 7K onan so we could power everything at once using the genny! If you have a serious Solar setup you could also power them I imagine, but perhaps need to stagger it all. I made the pie a day ahead, slow cooker and turkey next day. And of course potatoes were using propane stove so no power needed for that. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
+RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett Thank you for the explanation. Makes perfect sense.
Nicely done! We have the same convection oven as you guys have and we are still trying to get good with it. Our Allegro 36la has no oven which everyone says is fine, but I'm still not comfortable with. I am going to check out your pie recipe. I have a question. I know that you lost you fur baby early into your full time experience. Are you to the place where you have thought about another yet? I can't imagine life without a dog. Merry Christmas on the road!
+Larry Hobbs Hi Larry, initially I didn't want an oven (I wanted the extra storage space!) but as we bought used it came with it, I did like using it a few times, BUT now I have worked out the convection it is SO much simpler and easier and I could/would easily buy another RV WITHOUT an oven. I do not like using MIcrowaves ovens mainly for health reasons. IN answer to your question, we have just passed 1 year without our Coda, 13 months actually, and we still miss her and while we would love to have another fur baby, we also have international travel plans and so having another pet of any kind wouldn't really work with that as we couldn't bear to leave the, Merry Christmas to you too!
You are so cute! I'm 4"11' so I too have to use a step stool for everything!
+TheTandumbs Hehe i practically live on the thing :)
I m new to RVing...is there a place I should be buying all my 12 volt appliances from? Just found u guys..I subscribed! Hi from Nova Scotia, Canada. XO
HI there and welcome! We use all regular household appliances that run on AC - they are not 12 volt. We hope to get to Canada in 2017! :)
Thanks so much for answering! OK that's great too know. You will love Canada....lots of beautiful provinces to drive thru and very friendly especially in the Maritime Provinces!! XO
Very nice presentation, however, I did have to chuckle at the term small rv kitchen. Your rv kitchen is twice the size our S&B kitchecn. LOL
+Geezer at the Wheel Now that IS funny!
Did she swear you to secrecy?! I want your sister's recipe, that pie looks ahhhmazing! I wouldn't be lonely on a Friday night if I had that to take to bed with me LOL.
+Old Fart New Start Haha actually she didn't mind me sharing it! It is pretty darn good! You should try making it!
+RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett Ohh, I just dropped down the Show More box! I most def willll be trying the recipe. btw I will be listening tonight, have a GREAT show!!!
+Old Fart New Start Thank you! Be sure to send in some questions!
send me some of that potato!
+Going Mobile USA It is SO good!
You can use metal bake pans for that?
Use metal bake pans for what Connie? Sorry I am not following?
RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett you cant use metal pans in a micro, can you use them in a con vection?
RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett you cant use metal pans in a micro but in a convection, you can?
OK now I understand. That is right. You cannot use metal pans in a microwave but you can use metal pans in a convection. Don't use the dual function which uses convection/microwave ta the same time. Also I cooked our turkey in a glass pyrex dish.
I hope you had company over cause for jus the two of you that’s a lot of leftovers!
We LOVED the leftovers. :)
You know it would help if you told us WHAT TEMPERATURE YOU COOK AT!! I can't find one decent convection oven video. Nobody knows how to use them! half the people say cook it like this, half say cook it like that. some people say cook higher temperature some say cook lowwer. YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING!!! Thanks for trying.
We usually just use the same temperatures and times we do on regular recipes. Since our experience is that it has been virtually the same as regular oven times and temps, I guess we figured it wasn't worth mentioning. -M
