- Most Airstreamers never use (or even know how to use!) the convection feature of the microwave oven. Turns out it's pretty easy. We show you the right buttons to push as well as how to prep your dough prior to departure so you can enjoy that just-baked cookie smell while you're on the road.

Thanks so much! I couldn’t figure out how to use the oven! I thought I was the only one 😂
We use our convection oven in our Airstream all of the time. However, we keep the wire rack in the oven and find that air circulates more effectively if the pan is raised while cooking. I keep a log of our favorite recipes using Paprika 3 on my iPad and make notes of how long it takes to cook in our Airstream so I can remember from trip to trip. We use the oven to cook biscuits, breakfast casseroles, cookies, and other baked goods. We are still looking for a really good cobbler recipe for the Airstream convection oven - would love to see something like that from other subscribers. Keep the videos coming - they are great!
You are a convection oven whiz! Thank you for sharing your recipes and how smart to log them in an app. Hadn't thought of breakfast casseroles and will put that on our list. We're also going to try the idea of keeping the wire rack inside for better cooking.
For an easy cobbler recipe try this one: www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/recipes/a10191/blackberry-cobbler-recipe/. Use whatever fruit you’d like. Goes together quickly and is delicious! Sometimes I’ll measure out my ingredients at home, so I can ‘dump and bake’ so to speak. When my FIL was still alive, he and I could assemble this and have it in the oven within 7 minutes! I was his favorite. 😉
@@trixiedubya1758 I will try this! Thanks!
Trixie, how long do you bake this cobbler in the AS convection oven?
Really enjoying your videos - great for a newby Airstreamer - you two do a great job of making them short, interesting and fun to watch! Thanks!
I have always been intimidated with the convection part of the microwave. I will definitely be making cookies on our next trip.
Super! We love baking cookies and it looks like we will be able to do it while on the road. Thanks for the info!
Our convection oven is 17 years old. I have to take out the manual every time I use it. It works a little differently than the new ones but I like it.
Great video!!!! Knew how to preheat my oven ok but couldn’t figure out how to set the cook time (even after reading instructions) so I resorted to preheating over and over during the cook time. 😠 Had no idea the answer was as simple as entering the cook time during the 5 minute magic window 😂
Glad we could help! Happy baking.
Just bought a Caravel which came with a microwave/convection/air fry oven - thanks for the video - Now have to try baking in it.
Thank you!!! I’m not intimidated by the convection feature anymore!
Happy to hear that! I felt the same way until I realized it's just a few buttons and a tiny bit of math.
First rule for convection in the Contoure microwave convection oven manual reads “REMOVE the turntable when preheating the oven…..” I noticed you didn’t do that. Did you skip that part or is it not necessary?
Thank you for showing us how easy it is! Great tip on making the dough at home!
You are so welcome!
I like your cooking style. close enough counts :)
Please do a cooking series!
Her nose profile is awesome!
Great information. Thank you
This give me the confidence to get to know my convection oven, lol! Thanks!
Right on! You'll be baking on your next trip, I'm sure. :-)
I enjoy your videos, just do more please!
Thanks! We enjoy making them. If you have topic suggestions, we'd love to hear them.
Great instructional!
Thank you!
This is awesome! We have a 2023 International FBT and are planning our “maiden voyage.” Tollhouse cookies will definitely be part of our trip!
Question: I would like to practice using my oven here at home before we go. What are the power requirements for running the oven? 110 from my house? 30amp? 50amp? Thank you!
You can plug either the 50amp or 30amp plug into an adapter to then plug into your home power supply. It will run the microwave. If you don't have those adapters they are easy to find a RV and other supply stores.
@@airgear thanks so much! Now I hope to learn more about the metal rack that came with the oven.
Great video. I would love to know how to use the airfare and grill functions!
Thanks, DeeDee. Unfortunately, the instructions for those did not work as expected, so we could not shoot any more videos showing the features. If that changes, we'll do another video.
Do you have a video on the air fryer?
We did not make more videos about this convection microwave because sadly, we could not get the air fryer and other features to work as described in the instruction manual. So we have never used anything but the oven feature.
Couple of questions.... 1) I didn’t realize you could leave the glass tray in while convection baking, thats alright?? 2) can you do a segment on how to use the air fryer button?? I know that’s all the rage right now and I don’t have one in my home, so no idea on how to use that feature. Thanks!!
I believe you are supposed to leave the glass tray in as it rotates and ensures more uniform cooking. We have left in the glass tray on all of our Airstream Convection/Microwaves all of the time - with never any issues!
Hi Trixie, Kirk is right - the instructions say you have to leave that tray in there when using the convection feature, so the food turns during cooking. We are already talking about making onion rings using the air fry feature, so stay tuned...
Where did you get the pan you used for baking your cookies what is the metal rack used for
It came with our Airstream. We tried to purchase additional ones from Contour (the manufacturer), but were never successful. You could try your dealer as a start.
What's the electronic display in the shelf behind you two at the beginning?
I think you are referring to our TST monitor, which is charging on the shelf behind the dinette.
would have loved to have a convection microwave in the basecamp but being just standard microwave and no option for convection microwave, we removed the microwave.
Do you know what the grill feature does on this oven? Is it like broil? Like a browsing setting?
Honestly, it doesn't do much of anything.
We just bought a used 2021 Airstream with a convecton microwave and it did not have the metal pan you showed in this video; the previous owner must have kept it. Do you know where I can buy a replacement? I did not find any when I googled. Or can I just find a metal pan that fits the microwave and use that?
That metal pan was not included with all trailers that came with convection microwaves. Unfortunately we haven't been able to find any source for replacements.
What if I want to make multiple batches of cookies. Do I start the preheat all over again?
Yes, follow the same steps as if you were preheating for the first time. But for the second batch, you'll find that the preheat time is much faster because the oven is already hot. I'll clarify this in our blog post that explains the steps to using the oven. store.airstreamlife.com/blogs/airstream-life-store-blog/how-to-bake-cookies-in-the-convection-microwave
Thank you so much.
How about a video for the air fryer setting.
Sadly, we haven't had success with that one, or other settings either. Which is why we only made the one video on baking. :-(
I use mine all the time. Biggest issue is that I have to press convection and the preheat temp with the door open. Otherwise it says "Food" and I have to open the door. It's weird because it wants me to add food but it isn't preheated yet!
That happens to us too on our 2022 FC.
Hey i baked the cookies in convection oven but my cookies didn't spread like yours. Why??
Hi Ginny - It's hard to know without having more details. But I have found that when you use real butter the cookies tend to flatten (in my oven at home too). I use half Crisco / half vegan butter, or all Crisco, for fluffier cookies. Hope this helps.
