How do I put an image for reference
can youhelp me my i have a drawing tablet and a screen but it goes to the other monitor when i put my pen on the tablet when i just want the pen to draw on the tablet
Hey if you haven't gotten this figured out yet, check our Discord discord.gg/wingedcanvas and I'm sure someone in our server can lend you a hand.@@awttygaming2510
for those on minute 5:19, if you are adding the fill and wondering why it is not working, you have to go to your tool settings and change in reference from the first botton on the left to the middle one, it says "obtain the region using a merged copy of all the layers" , and you can fill in to your hearts content! and don't worry if when adding the dots it shows that you are coloring over the black lines, when you do that weird button(I forget the name) it takes care of that.
thanks was having problems with that
plus to those people on minute 5:23 who couldn't fill the shape well, having noticeable sharp white edges between the black and the red fill. Just turn on anti-aliasing in the adjustments in the tool options as well.
i dont get it.
there's a tab called tool options (took me a while to find lol) and scroll to reference and change it to the middle one@@fazzylit5927
Thank you, kind stranger. May good fortune be upon you.
My first ever digital drawing tablet gets here tomorrow, and I’m SO EXCITED to start digital art. I’ve studied so much and learned about animation, and this is my final choice for the app I’m gonna use. It’s been years since I’ve started drawing and I’ve started with the hope of starting and creating digital stories and art, I’m so happy. I’m already planning out my very first video, although it may be a rocky road I’m happy to finally be able to wander along it.
Keep continue the good work !!
@@nicolasb.henry294 tysm!
Do you have it now? How's it been working for you!?
👀
I subscribed! Looking forward to what you come up with
Thank you so much for posting! I’ve been using Krita for about a year now, but I knew there were still some functions and tricks I wasn’t aware of. Now I finally know about the inherit alpha clipping and the HSV color adjustment! I can’t wait to apply this to my drawings now :D
Oh I remember seeing you in Elesk's community, so I wanted to say hi! (if I'm not mistaken haha)
@@tanhuang_nua I’ve been spotted holy moly
Hello fellow Elesk-community member! I hope the new year has been going well for you, and if not, I sincerely hope it gets better. :D
@@Quiscala Thank you, it's so kind of you! And I hope for the same for you! 💫
I've decided to try a few new things this year, hence I'm here learning about digital drawing lol
I've used krita for a few months and didn't know all this. Overview panel and grouping is going to help so much, Thank you guys!
Does anyone else's fill tool act wacky and just ignore the lines on other layers? When I use it, it just fills the whole canvas on the layer unless I have lines on the same layer. I'm using an early access version of krita on mobile so that may be the problem. But if it happens to anyone else who's using a computer, let me know if you've figured out how to stop it from doing this! :)
Edit: Y'all someone in the replies posted the solution! :) if you need it, take a look
in the tool settings make sure it's set to refer to all the layers and not just the active layer
@@BaconSpider ohhh, thanks!
@Bacon Spider Thank you!!!! I'm using krita on a computer and I just couldn't figure out what could be wrong with my fill tool
@@BaconSpider and where are the tool settings...?

I've seen some tutorials as a beginner on Krita , and I must say this is my fav one. Hits all the right spots with examples too. Well done !
FINALLY I FOUND A KRITA TUTORIAL THAT DOESNT TAKE AN HOUR
THANK YOU
Thank you so much. I love how you integrated a good diversity of tools in a single tutorial. Quality stuff.
Brand new beginner. Thank you, I learned so much from this video... and at the same time grappled with so much confusion. Digital art is complicated!
Glad it was helpful! Digital art can definitely be confusing, we have a bunch more videos to help you learn though! What do you seem to struggle with most?
no because i love this program and use it to animate 😭 can’t wait to see how you use it! :DD
This video was very helpful thank you! Trying to draw digitally for the first time is very overwhelming and before watching this I didn’t know where to start
I just switched from FireAlpaca to Krita for a less pixelated canvas, and all the new tools were a little overwhelming x3 Thank you for the tutorial ^_^ Loved the silly little drawing :D
I’ve used Krita for 5 years. Time to learn things I had no idea about!
BIG HELP. was wondering how to do masks in krita and this gave me a whole lot more omg
Finally a real beginners tutorial😭 thank you very much
Glad to be of service!
Just started using this app. Gotta say, instantly fell in love with it once I knew how to use it
Thank you iI used to use this app and was very confuse. You don't know how much I needed this I am eternally grateful towards you.
A tutorial most special! A mushroom was born today in the heart of this software. I thank thee greatly.
Great video! It's really nice how you introduce so many features through the process, lots of tools and tricks to play around with
I'm definitely only to use this as a reference. I might even play with Krita tomorrow and follow along. This is going to be a huge tool for me, thank you so much
Such a clear introduction to what Krita can do. Was really helpful. Thanks :)
Thank you for posting this video. I am new to all of this and really appreciate the time and effort you took to make this process understandable.
Wow- This is so helpful!!! I've been wanting to try Krita, but it seemed really overwhelming compared to my normal programs. (Medibang / FireAlpaca...) This has really helped me out a lot and I look forward to trying Krita again! Thanks!! :)
Brilliant. Really informative. One of the best training vidios I have seen in a long time. Thankyou x
i just installed krita and you are the first tut i have watched on it thank you it was very informative and quick paced Greta vid
Wow! Great content! I've actually learned a lot and watched the whole stuff. Thank you a lot.
this was a very easy to understand, clear and to the point tutorial and I found it verfy helpful!!!!
I’m new to digital painting and I learned so much from this video! Thank you, you did a great job explaining things!
Thank you, glad it was helpful! We've got a bunch of other Krita tutorials if you're looking to learn more!
This is so simple and so helpful. Thanks so much
YESSS This is what we need
You have a really nice voice to listen to! Thanks for the tutorial
Krita is my favorite drawing app
Wish I could see you guys doing a drawing stream using it ^^
oo nice, i use krita and it's nice to see it get recognised by people i've subscribed to
I believe I was having trouble with the eraser tool being selected. Would never have realised! Thanks for also pointing out where the blur tools are. This was handy for showing me some useful things - thanks!
This is a very good tutorial this is exactly what I wanted for "first steps" of note I am using 5.2 and the fill you need to select some tool options to get the same behavior as this tutorial, namely "obtain region from merged layers" and the blending mode make sure it is set to Normal, mine defaulted to something else.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. Especially the part showing the "eraser mode", I'm trying to learn Krita with my daughter, and I know that would have driven us crazy if you didn't point it out.
Thank you for all of your help and Happy Birthday Marc ❤🎨
Thank YOU for hanging around!
Thank you! I just started krita today and this helped my
Amazing tutorial. You are fantastic. Much appreciated and thank you 😊
Nicely explained the features and demonstrated, THANK YOU!
This was so well done, thank you!
Incredibly helpful!
this is SO helpful, thank you!
This was very helpful. Thank you!
Im new to using Krita. So as a beginner, this is a very helpful tutorial! One thing I'm having a hard time figuring out is flipping the canvas horizontally and finding the tool bar thing (I tried pressing \ on the keyboard). I've only done digital art on my phone with ibisPaint x so I'm not used to Krita's set up 😅
This will help as I just got a drawing tablet. Im going to have to rewatch this though there’s a lot of things that a bit confusing for me
this is very thorough instruction. good video, thank you
Awesome video. Love your voice. Sounds very chill and relaxed. I already knew this stuff. Except how to get to hue/saturation in the menu lol ..i figured out the shortcut key first.
I'm following along and enjoying this video. For a couple of hours though, I had trouble using a paint layer to full in the lines of the line art layer. I didn't realize the fill tool needed to be set to "fill regions found from the merging of all layers". I figured it out and am back on track.
Great job!
Thanks a lot ^^ This helped me understand Krita a little better. I'm a complete novice with digital art and art in general. Im currently trying to learn to draw using krita. This was super helpful ^^

This video is so good, I keep coming back here everytime i forget how to do something😅
Thanks. Great lesson! I studied a couple classes in beginner Photoshop, & it really helped in understanding how Krita works. This video is helping me to know how to jump right in to start using Krita, as my preferred program at this time. Please do a Part II, & go into greater depth how to use Krita, including some of the items quickly mentioned in this video! Love wins. Blessings to all fellow artists.

Can you make more like this? Im a visual learner, and Im also new to drawing. This step by step show and tell process really really helped me!! Id love to learn how to draw and paint more just like this! Like little animals or fruits or something simple 😊
ah, i had downloaded krita recently, good timing!
This video was much helpful for me.
I'm currently transitioning from gimp to a better drawing software, gimp is more for photo editing, and I was a little lost about the user interface in Krita.
Thank you.
It was a great tutorial :D
Glad it was helpful!
This is totally helpful as a beginner I like this tutorial although for beginner I feel too much info for me to absorb all but wish me luck I really want to master digital drawing skills
bro...youre soo good at explaining! thank you SOO much! ToT
Glad it helped!
Great! Thanks :)
I swear...I use Krita like 8 years and you just showed me how stupid I was...😢 Thank you for teaching me ❤

Thank u so much for this! I just started using krita on my laptop cus I wanted to start drawing on my laptop and mainly have been doing it on the iPad but my iPad is an older generation so it’s not the best 😂 I am excited to give this a try 😂
I hoped it would be less rushed as it's for beginners. I have just downloaded and it's too reliant on people knowing things already. Shame.
Take your time and watch it again, im in the same boat and i found it extremely useful to come back to over and over
I'd advice you just play around with the features. I had a lot of fun finding out what each button did by myself.
Enjoy your drawing!
1st ..i agree but the solution is to put playback on a slower setting. :)
Speed doesn't matter when the information is there. Slow the vid down. All software is designed the same. No software teaches you how to use it unless it's garbage
Same, I paused it and rewound the video too many times and got lost. Lots of great info here but for someone who has never used it before I'm going to come back after and I get more familiar with it.
Ok... I was looking for "how do you flipping clip these layers!?" inherit alpha gave me a headache at first but now it makes a lot more sense. I'm still getting used to the program, lots of stuff to explore and adjust to my liking(specially customizing my own brushes). Thank you for sharing this!
This video is amazing. Please make another.
We've got a ton more, anything specific you need help with?
Great video! thanks :D
great video, thanks
Thank u so much
I just installed Krita 3 days ago that's so funny
Thank you for the video
Damn this makes drawing so much easier I'll sub
Thank you ❤
Thank u ^^
Subbed! I've been using Procreate for the last couple of years, off and on. I've been drawing since I was 2, but I didn't even try to invest in starting digital art until a couple of years ago. I'm unfamiliar with other programs, and it seems so impossible to learn everything! I'm well into my game design degree, too, so I just feel so inexperienced.
This video was great for learning some very basic and helpful tips for Krita. I wanted to start learning this program as I just invested in a larger and more advanced drawing display, and I'll have to use Windows with it. It was a little hard to decipher a few words here and there in the video, but I liked that you showed how to change, adjust, and fix mistakes and placements of things. It always seems like borderline witchcraft to me when I've watched people drawing such complex designs and then just adjusting an entire chunk of it! 😂
Thanks for the video. This makes me feel a bit better. I need to start building my portfolio soon, so I want to learn what I can for concept art, modeling, and animation. I need to start small, though. 😊
Hey there! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It's awesome to hear about your experience with Procreate and your venture into Krita! Learning new software can indeed feel overwhelming, especially when you're balancing it with your game design degree. We're sooo glad our video helped with some basic tips for Krita. We've got a bunch of other Krita tutorials too, if you need more advanced guidance, or help with animation! (Most of our Animation demos use Krita!) Like... czcams.com/video/oXMCmiT_wxA/video.html
If you're diving into concept art, modeling, and animation, starting small is a great approach. Our channel (czcams.com/users/wingedcanvas) has more tutorials that could be helpful as you build your portfolio. Fantastic video. I've just started using Krita and this was a great way to learn some very helpful tools. Only thing is it was very fast. Had to keep rewinding to see where you were clicking or what you were doing. Still great though. Thanks.
I have no knowledge on drawing but i really wanted to learn. Last time I draw is like on pencil and paper and they stick figures. hahaha I bought this xp pen deca pro which I have no knowledge using a tablet for drawing either then installed this krita software. I am confused with all this so thank you for shedding light.
Wow...I can't imagine how long it took you to develop this kind of expertise with Krita. Thanks for sharing.. I just wish you moved your cursor a bit more slowly or narrated more fully some of the functions you were selecting. i'll watch again at 0.75 speed and perhaps get more out of it. pretty sure "beginners" such as myself are bewildered by the speed with which you made selections to implement Krita functions!
Same, can't imagine either. I've been using Krita for a couple years but I barely made anything good with it, this tutorial really helped me redefine how I should view learning, I really regret rushing and insisting on self-taught lol. I'm definitely bookmarking this video if I ever want a guide or refresher
@@Vhie05 Watch at 1/2 speed! Makes a lot more sense when you can follow the actions!
nice tutorial!
Your voice is such an asmr
4:55 I'm new to using Krita, and I've been following this tutorial-- as far as I can tell-- perfectly. But when I try to use the fill tool, it fills the whole canvas, not just the area of the mushroom cap. Does anyone know what I did wrong?
I made the line art on one layer, made a new paint layer between the line art and the (hidden) sketch, selected the fill tool, and clicked it. The video clearly shows that she has the new layer selected, so how does it only fill within the shape? It was a new layer not a copy, right? (She clicked the plus sign not the duplicate icon.) The layers aren't linked, and she didn't select an area within the image with a select tool. What am I missing?
Okay, I found the issue, in case anyone else is having the same problem.
In the Tool Options docker, if you scroll down towards the bottom, there is a section called "Reference" with three selectable icon options. The first one (default) shows three layers, two of which appear grayed out. This one paints based on the active layer only. This is why the fill tool was painting the entire canvas. Instead, select the second one (three white layers). This one paints an area based on all layers. In other words, the painted area will be restricted, even from lines and shapes on other layers. (No more having to select an area in one layer, then switching to a separate layer to paint!)
@@Obstreperous_Octopus thank you so much!! i had the same exact problem as you
@@Obstreperous_Octopus Thankyouuu sooo muchh!! Needed this :))
@@Obstreperous_Octopustq❤
Thank you for this video, it is super helpful to me just starting out! I only found trouble right at the end with the shading section, when I use an opaque black brush it seems to erase the background and show my gradient and polka dot layers, not make a black mark? I don't understand where I went wrong, but I loved this exercise!
Thanks ♥️
