absolutely love this plane, durable, easy to fly, slow, I would recommend this to any skill level
The stol competitions are insane!
This episode had the old-school FliteTest feel, I liked it
A tundra would be a great comparison plane with this one, might be worth comparing the two in a similar challenge like this just for fun! Thanks for the review
Love you guys - Actually going to pick one of these up tonight from aero hobby - You guys weren't using full flaps (or in Josh's case any flaps) for the STOL landing comp. lol.
3 years later what did you think?
I have another positive testimonial for the Timber. It's a great all around plane that is much more stable than it should be. One thing I would like to point out is that Josh spoke incorrectly in the video saying that the AS3X was turned off. The AS3X can not be shut off, although the SAFE is optional. I 100% recommend getting the plug n play version without the AS3X gyros. The gyros never work well on planes requiring rudder when going slow. On top of that when flying low down and on the edge like you do with STOL you don't want the "rate of rotation" style control that gyros offer, you'd rather be holding back pressure and just blip the throttle if you need more control authority.
I absolutely love my Timber. I promote it all the time
It was very fun to watch this episode. Seems like a great beginner plane with many useful features ;)
How about a slow race, using the same airplane see who can take the longest time between point A and point B. Straight line, no hovering. Maybe do a few different planes. :)
AWESOME!!! Please make a crash compilation from over the years
No crashes are horrible, no crash compilation
STOC = Short Take Off and Crashing
BWX
another sick as upload, so awesome
Fun again boys - thanks for another great vid!
Another awesome video, need to get my transmitter and start building. Such awesome hobby. Thanks guys
I love that Josh knows about stuff like that the spin out maneuver was actually used in practice.
I love my timber aswell! Amazing plane! Can't wait to get the mini timber
I would have landed along side the line instead of across it xD
Another awesome video, purchasing mine this Wednesday
As always a great episode. One thing, could you indulge us a bit and add the old long intro on one episode for old times sake? I´m feeling nostalgic, specially in this season which is when I started to watch you guys 'bout two years ago, Thanks and keep it up!
I agree!
Good news, guys. My Timber arrived yesterday and I'm getting ready to build. Want to add 2 or 3 Sony action cam mounts to the aircraft as well as seeing if some tiny nylon ball/socket hardware can be found to make slats removable. Have not flown for 3 years so switchable Safe mode will be added. Got my Lipos cycled and ready to go. Have 2200, 2800 and 3300 to try with this bird. I think the 2800 is going to be the winner. Plan on using floats as well as skis for some different fun.
You guys have fun.
always fun to watch!
I'm hooked! And Bob rocks!! I want more Bob!
I love the style of it.
Looks like a lot of potential and fun. Just ordered 1.......now to wait...
Just like the old videos I love it 👍
I just got my Timber. I love it.
Enjoyable video of a fun plane; I got mine back in January and put skis on it, then had it on floats all through summer and loved it. Tried to dip the rudder in the water on a low inverted pass and ended up dunking the whole plane in the water, but just lost a wing servo to the water gods...
the drone shots makes this channel worth it
You guys do know that any foam plane that Flite Test has plans for can have the AS3X added to it, right? Hobby King sells one of their orange receivers with it and all you have to do is use that receiver with your DTFB plane and it will have the same stable flight that any AS3X plane does. It's pretty cool.
You forgot about the tundra, you should do a comp of tundra bs timber
I just got a Timber, and I love it.
This is the only thing on my Christmas list this year
You guys are the best.
Just received this plane so excited to get it in the air!!
I love the challenges
Awesome to have a josh and josh episode :)
Great Video. Just purchased my Black Friday. Awaiting shipment .
" Easy, Cougar.
Just a walk in the park, buddy.
You're a little low. You're a little low.
Come on, buddy, pull up.
Pull up, Cougar. "
What?
Arnav, I quoted the 80’s Top Gun movie. Where a pilot has trouble landing his fighter jet. Flite Test’s 10 second intro reminded me of that scene so I commented that quote.
nice video guys!
I had this plane on pre-order, and was at our shop the day they came in. This is everything that you could want, lights, flaps, articulated landing gear, and well behaved. This is now my main plane, replacing my ageing (and well used) sport cub. I love being able to toss it in the rear seats of my F-150 and head out to the field. You guys look like you are having a ball out there, keep it up.
Tundra vs Timber!
How would this fly compared to the Flyzone Beaver? They are slightly different but which would be a better all around aircraft?
I would really like to see some shots of the camera ship (quad) you are using to film with. Great videos as always.
great video!!
I see you guys are at Furey Field again. I live like 2min from there.
I bought mine in oct 20th and I’ve never flown an RC Plane and Ihad my maiden flight today. I love it
Please review the E-flight cirrus. Love the videos too👌
0:21 Good one LOL!
Fun challenge you guys should to do a mass hover with the Storch,Timber,Bushwacker along side each other then hit the throttle you guys race straight up to see which plane does vertical better???
I call Stephan's wing dug in before the tape.
looks like this plane is hard to fly seeing as how all of them struggled somewhat. the one josh seemed to have a better grip on coming in low and slow a bit more than the other folks....perhaps he flew this many times before the video? man he was smooth.
Great video!! Lovee it!! what about towing some gliders with this epic plane?
Love the timber. On my "when I'm not poor" list for although it's not expensive for what it is I don't have the gear to fly it.
You should try the umx timber
Be interesting to see a repeat challenge against the turbo timber/no crashing
Is the Timber a plane yall would recommend for a beginner looking to get into the hobby? Fly full scale looking to get into RC.
I love this airplane!
you are awesome guys
Fantastic!!
Flite Test how durable is it as a beginner? with some good crashes?
Bixler fies pretty good. I'm back after 35 years and I'm not so bad after all!
I run my timber with a Venom 3 cell 3200. 10 minute flight time. I've had mine on floats and it's great fun. This plane is s blast.
back together again
I want one. What’s the best setup to use a Taranis? Receiver wise? Thanks guys for a great video.
Would be nice if in your STORE you indicated what was required and included with the E-Flite Timber.
Learnt to fly on mine and do love the oh fark switch.
Nice well done.
I live in Alaska, and my job is to sell aircraft parts, Super Cub STOL parts too sometimes. I usually go to the Valdez Fly in and they have some sick STOL competitions, and also Port Alsworth has some wicked ones too
nice fly dude 1 question please? after you buit your plane you bind the firts time the plane whit as3x mode? i ask you because i bind my plane firts time whit safe mode them i set up the safe salect (on/off) the safe mode Works ok but when i turn off the plane Font response well actually i use a dx6i radio any tip? thanks for help
Love my Timber .
I just got an Felipe timber for Christmas, and I live in Colorado. Any tips for my first time since I'm at around 6000-7000ft above sea level.
you should do a review on the e-flite convergence vtol
InTheTubeDeep flies his Tundra all the time and is an old pro with it. His landings are so smooth you would think there is actually a real person in the cockpit piloting the thing.
Fun! An 800mm wingspan would be just right for me. :)
Hey Joshes, please do a review on the convergence vtol
Cool! ...I'd be interested in knowing whether or not the slats made a noticeable difference in slow-speed handling, i.e. if you can actually fly any slower and take off/land any shorter with them as opposed to without. I have searched all over but cannot find any reference to their actual benefit and the ideal slat gap (in terms wing chord length) *at the very low Reynolds numbers our models fly*. If anyone has had actual experience with this I'd love to hear about it.
Great video. I tried to use your link but it failed. Can you advise please?
Do you still stock these in store? Can I find parts for the timber?
I bought this plane at flite fest and i still love to fly it
what makes this plane a STOL? just the flaps? or is it the entire design to include the motor, the weight, the tires, flaps, etc. ? trying to build one and am already thinking i'm going to be 4+ lbs. ...... so go with a 15 motor ? or can i use a 1534Kv with a 3S 2200mah? im at 48" wingspan, with a 30A ESC and it's a Hobby Lobby Foam board with 7 9g servos and streerable tricycle landing gear.
What kind of cameras do you use on the planes
Oh my gosh. They do know how to fly fixed wing! I'm tired of only multi rotor stuff.
Challenge Idea:
4 people 1 Drone? I really like the ones with every one working together.
quick question.can my ec3 fit into a xt60 connector??
Could someone link me a vid or like what drone are they using to film? That things rapid af!
Stephan!!!! On the tape!!!
But Josh gets style points.
Can you guys make a vid about how to fly a plane line of sight?
Is that beeping the elevator trim?
can you make a video of the UMX Timber?
Big Josh wins that one for the most stable approach ^^
I have been flying a champ for two to three years and I think I want to upgrade to a timber!!
Do you think the timber is a better plane then the apprentice?
Stephan's left wing hit before the tape!!! (@10:59)
you guys should try to build planes like x-48 blended wing body. put the motor in the place that it will fill the void of drag behind the plane. We already know that we can help advance the science of flight through modeling.
This Plane is f*cking Awnsome :D
Josh won in my opinion, for keeping it on the wheels instead of cartwheeling it.
Happy to 'like it' but a full, in depth technical review would still be valuable.
Note to everyone on this planet, don’t be that guy who flips his collar.
Hey Josh, what transmitter are you using to fly the Timber? I assume its a six channel, but what brand?
Stephen Goossen it's a Spektrum dx6.
Stephen Goossen I'm almost positive it is a spectrum dx6.
Oh, thats what I was thinking. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, I love watching all of your videos, keep it up!
Stephen Goossen I'm going to say DXE or DX6E since Josh has seemed to be favoring those two recently
First comment!! Awesome video! Thanks guys
So is this easier to fly than the Tundra? And would you recommend a DX radio, or would one of the Graupners work with this? I guess it would without the AS3x?
shiretook almost 👍
You can get it as PNP (Plug and Play to add your own receiver) or BNF (Spektrum) as far as I know. For the AS3X you just need to set up the right channels.
Thank you, Balu. Can you advise as to whether a Turnigy 9X can be set up for AS3X? I guess I should ask Google, huh?
Check out the Tinder Manual: www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/EFL5250-Manual-EN.pdf, page 14.
"If you choose to install another receiver, ensure that it is at least a 5-channel full range (sport) receiver." - The Turnigy 9X is a 9 channel transmitter, right? So with a 6+ channel receiver you should be fine.
If you really want to be sure, you might just ask Horizon Hobby tech support. They should know too :-)
Is it possible to turn the AS3X off?
Stephens wing hit the ribbon
Bixlers landing was the best! Steffens was a crash, not a landing lol
when Joshua goes to land everyone sounds like golf commentators
