  • Have you ever wondered what Rusty Wallace is doing these days? You will know after watching this video! Rusty and Steven Wallace are in here co running ‪@SouthernCountryCustoms‬ building these insane custom Harley Davidson motorcycles. Steven even does all powder coating in house inside this super neat cargo trailer shop addition. We get to see some of Rusty's favorite trophies in his office and hear some about the golden era NASCAR days. In the next video we head down to the former Blue Max Racing building where he has not been since 1991! Big thanks to ‪@KennyWallace36‬ for helping these videos come together!

    Its good to see Rusty and Steven doing so well with their motorcycle business. Wasn't a fan of Rusty's back in the day but as he progressed through his later career, I respected his achievements and his business knowledge and his leadership in the sport, he knew more about the car setups more than most and he had a hand in a lot of that. Great to see Rusty doing something with his sons, I remember hearing him in an interview in the 2005 Daytona 500 pre-race, that he always wanted to enjoy what Dale Earnhardt didn't get to enjoy which was time with his family in his career after racing and this motorcycle business is their deal to for them to do that.

He was taken from me when I was 12. I see dad's like rusty with his sons an think about how it could have been. So I know the pain is horrible. I still have my step dad an he is awesome it's just different because he works in the mill 7 days a week. Where my dad even took me to the shop or on the tow truck because it was his. Again...Mitch and Logan thanks for this vid. Ill be looking for the vid where you visit the old Blue Max shop. I was there when Iron Horse Auctions held a sale. Picked up a variety of pieces but the most interesting thing was...I noticed two charts on a wall (one from 89 and other from 90 season)...had qual motor record, speed notes, etc...also race motor records fin8sh and comments. I figured they were Barry Dodson's charts. Iron Horse had not tagged them and when we got to that room I asked...auctioneer slapped stickers on them and started biddung. I bought them both ( I dont think others knew what they were, many there just hard core racers looking for parts...JD McDuffie was there, Buddy Baker, etc...). Anyway, a friend got me into a press conference before a Dirt ROC special noght at a local track...Rusty, Kenny, Geoff, Harry, etc there...I took them and showed them to Rusty ( he immediately exclained " These are Barry's notes !" ) and offered him them to keep ( thought maybe he would like to have them). He very graciously autographed them a told me to keep them. Ill try to send you pics of them...some great notes...especially from that 89 Cup Championship season. Thanks again !

      Some would say that now are the darkest days of NASCAR...I can't even watch a bunch of "woke" bullpucky...paranoid drivers calling a door pull a noose? I have a long memory, I don't believe in moving on until the matter is truly settled...it makes me sick that a Petty driver would try to make a racist issue out of nothing...that dude was the farthest thing from being "oppressed"...I have been called racist more now than in the 80s when I really did have an issue with non-white people...I realized that I really had an issue with "people" who weren't quality, not with all people in a certain group...when I ask why they think I'm a racist, the answer I get? You're white...uh huh...well thanks for making that clear as mud...sorry(not sorry) for the rant, but I needed to get that off my chest 😅

    • @matthewhicks1725
      @matthewhicks1725 Před 2 lety

      I have a long memory too. I’m retired from the Army. I grew up in eastern ky. I have been called a Racist more times than I care to mention. Just because of that fact. Because I have a deep Appalachian accent. Did it hurt me? Yes. Does it still hurt me? Yes. But I have let that go. Surely you can let that other deal go. Was it ludicrous? Yes. Did the majority of the country know it was a fluke? Yes. Was Bubba exposed to crazy amounts of pressure at the time? I would say so. The country was on fire at that time. It was just a product of the times. But calling this the Darkest time in NASCAR at a time when they are gaining momentum is completely ludicrous. Feb 18, 2001. (Which is my Birthday as well) Will forever be the Darkest Day/Time that NASCAR has ever experienced. Hands down. To think any other way is just bitterness and a Big reason why our country is in the shape it’s in. You ever watch Kyle Larson wheel a Sprint Car or a Super Late model? How bout Christopher Bell? Or Stenhouse? You gotta get past their dorky personalities and concentrate on the Racing!

    Really neat video good to see Steven enjoying what he is doing! Rusty and family enjoying this time in life! Kinda funny they building Tony’s bike back in the day Tony wasn’t to kind with comments about Steven. We all say dumb thing and we get wiser with age! Keep up the good content and enjoy what you are doing!

    It's really cool to see what Rusty Wallace and his son's are up to these days. The motorcycles are incredible and I would love to see what other Rusty's Nascar collection he's got in the NASCAR hall of Fame basement

    I'm gonna ask hall of Fame next time I'm near it and stop in and ask to see rusty Wallace collection in the basement I bet tons of ppl are gonna go ask them now and they gonna say no and put up a sign saying don't ask about rusty Wallace collection in basement you won't see it thanks lol. Top notch craftsmanship on these bikes amazing work on them. And I understand what he meant every winter I would build or hang a beautiful brand new body with custom paint job on my asphalt street stocks or modifieds especially the dirt late model and modified you build a beautiful dirt modified or latemodel beautiful custom two and three tone paint jobs metallic flakes and candy paints and wet sanded and buffed the clear coat like glass and clear coat over all the vinyl numbers and lettering as well to make it look like it's part of the paint job and after first race night it comes home trashed like it's been through 10 races already scratched to hell and bake and dented up now at least with asphalt racing they come back looking good enough where you just buff out the marks and scratches from the rocks off the tires hitting the front bumper cover and just touch up all the chips and paint and looks ok but not the same lol

    Very cool, I didn't know Rusty is into bikes like this👍
    I do understand people loving these bikes but I've always preferred going Stupid Quick/Fast (for WAY cheaper) so I have always bought, built, tuned and raced 'metric bikes'. With that said, I also got to run 7.40s at 176+mph 1/4 mile on a methanol, turbo HD that was only 104cid (25 years ago)...

    I remember a video of Steven and Rusty years ago. Rusty was taking Steven to school and Rusty was telling him he needed to focus on school. Looks like he is doing well.

    Two of my favorite things, Harley Davidson & the Wallace Family.
    I worked with Mike & after the races, Rusty was very generous with Miller Brewing Company's beer 🍺
    This fall I'm getting some dirt time with Brother Kenny.
    Most people don't realize how good of a racer Rusty was - ASA to Cup.
    55 Winston Cup point race wins - 9 from Bristol

    Yes, most definitely need to get a HOF video. That would make for an awesome video, have a legend walk you through a hall of legends. I know Rick Childress is a busy man, but if you could get him to take you through there and get the history from him... 🤯
