Good video and technique. I do find that this maneuver is not super common among spear fighters. One way to avoid it is to dodge the initial “smack” attempt. I find that other spear fighters can get hyper focused on trying to move my spear out of the way I prefer to slightly move my spear out of the way of their inital “smack” attempt. Typically when they attempt this smack, they need to do so with enough force to, potentially, move my spear out of the way. If I dodge that initial spear smack attempt they will typically be off balance and have over committed on the smack, leaving them out of positive and vulnerable to a quick counter shot. Also if they do knock my spear to the side, I just take a step our two back to be out of their range until I get my spear back in line.

If I had a little more time I would like to have talked about how to knock a spear out of the way without overcommitting yourself and falling into the very trap that you just described. In fact, the first time I show the smack, I used exactly the bad technique that would lead to this. I use little flicks, bounces, and shoves, but in a nutshell, whatever technique is used, the spear fighter needs to be sure not to set themselves up to moving their own spear off line.
      Anyway, great point. Thanks!

    So a beat-disengage.

In fencing terms, I'd personally describe it as a beat driven by body rotation instead of arm movement, disengage, and thrust.

Interestingly, there's a lot that translates over well from fencing to SCA spearing and a lot that doesn't (the same is true going from Yari to SCA spear). This is a maneuver that any fencer might think is obvious, yet so few SCA spear fighters use it.
My thoughts on it at this point our mostly that the weight of the armor and spear tend to drive a lot of differences, as well as the fact that the shots are initiated from the back hand instead of the front hand.
I've only done a small amount of fencing, but comparing the two, fencing feels like I'm I'm painting while SCA spearing feels like I'm shot putting (in an over simplistic nutshell).
