I love the whole Kei car scene, the Japanese are amazing when it comes to packing a lot into a small box.

I actually worked for a Daihatsu dealer in the late 90's so have driven plenty of these along with other Daihatsu's of that era. So I can say with absolute confidence that there is definitely something amiss if it feels REALLY slow. The brochure at the time stated 42bhp (obviously not very much), but it only weighs around 640kg. Motorway travel is of course not it's forte (though it will actually do about 84mph flat out), but it should feel plenty nippy enough around town and on narrow country roads. You mentioned it feeling slow next to a 126. Well that has a kerb weight of around 600kg if air-cooled, a little more if a later water-cooled version (bis) and will have around 26bhp at most. So the Cuore has a power to weight ratio roughly 50% more than the 126.
    Couple of other points.
Re the Mira, for 1990 onwards, kei cars were 660cc (and 64bhp) max.
Re the wheelbase, it isn't actually that short for such a small car thanks to the kei car norm of pushing the wheels right out to the extremities to maximise interior space. For comparison, the Fiat Seicento is 25mm longer overall but its wheelbase is 100mm less (it also weighs about 100kg more)
The Cuore is a fantastic little car, but for quirkiness the Daihatsu Move of the same era has it beaten hands down (just the thing if you feel the need to wear a top hat while driving)

The comment on it being as slow as a 126 was tongue and cheek, granted it is still slow. It is a noticeable jump down in power considering I was driving a Saxo VTR before. Regardless, the car is great fun to drive!

Honestly not sure! The number plates say Wadham Kenning, and I assume these are original!
