Thank's so much Michael for all of your time in creating these wonderful videos for us . I simply love your channel. I am subscribed to many different types of you-tube channels & I can say positively that I enjoy your channel heads up over all of the others. You are a great educator & I have learned so much from you. At almost 72y.y. I can attest to the saying "your never to old to learn". Keep those videos rolling my friend. Have a beautiful day- you genius!!!!
That baby wants to run! Nice find, congrats Michael!
I love how you're always happy! Watching you helps me stay motivated on my projects! Thank you, hope you have a great weekend!!
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching
Have you ever thought about doing a jet boat, like a jet jon conversion, or a older jet boat with Berkeley jet pump with V8? Thanks!
That 165hp couldn't of ended up in better hands. You will definitely give it a better life.
Appreciate the confidence, I hope I can meet your expectations, thanks for watching
Great find , I'm going to guess 77 model although my original guess was 71. Every now and then I'll pick up an old dirty boat for a couple bucks and give it a good cleaning and wax and maintenance for a nice return on my knowledge and labor. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
This kinda stuff is fantastic. For us untrained mechanics that become real-life mechanics. We become experts.
that's the plan, educate enough people to keep these old dogs alive, thanks for watching
You are the best!!!
Took my “new” 1981 mfg out today with a 120 Mercruiser. Wouldn’t go over 1200 rpm under load without stalling out. The thing I didn’t do was clean the jets. Dummy! I’ll get er going. Thing ran great on muffs.
The load is the ultimate test, thanks for watching
got an idea Mike, next time make up some clear hoses with fittings that will screw into each cylinder. Put the hoses in a bucket and watch the stuff come out without the mess.
that's a great idea for sure, thanks for watching
Great video the 165 is a great motor and GM and Mercruiser made a great engine and she is a great motor. I would say once the carb is rebuilt you should be able to fire it up. I can’t wait for next videos coming up on this motor.
Thanks,
Tim
I'm busy today to see if I can make it run. Thanks for watching
MIke would love to see you do a complete engine rebuild on one of these engines.
Some day I might have a need to do it. thanks for watching
New subscriber here Michael, really enjoy your videos. Its been tooooo long since I've been on the water. Keep up the great work!
Your Son is great w/ the drone footage.. Nice work on the boats, I'm currently doing an 89 Sylvan Offshore 22 w/ a great running low hour 3.0 Mercruiser.. I'll be following the 6 banger upgrade, might be in my future..lol..
Glad to have you aboard, thanks for watching
That’s great . Great find !
Great video I like seeing road trips on picking one up cause they be a adventure of their on . Seems like a good engine so far. Good plain on engine swap. 👍👍👍👍 As always Sir thanks for the ride along and Keep’em coming.
I do enjoy a good find, hope that is what this turns out to be. Thanks for watching
Great video and love the honesty you promote. Great content with lots of common sense.
Cheers
I appreciate that! thank you for watching
I'm excited for the build, I think its a great idea! I also like the boat/camping trips, definitely something I'll watch.
Stay with me and keep following, more good stuff coming.
Mike love to watch your videos, I hope one day you’ll do a video on a omc stinger outdrive.
Maybe one day
Thanks for posting today
Any time!

I love the engine swap idea, and I’ve been waiting to see you work on the blue boat
More to come! It's going to be a fun one for sure. thanks for watching
Thank you for your videos. Please keep them coming. You have found an interior that matches your shirts. Ha!
That is so true, thanks for watching
Thanks
Welcome
Picking up a 72 crestliner with 165 merc tomorrow. They say motor runs but reverse is out... Hopefully I can get it going. New subscriber !!! Love the tips
You can do it!
Hi, thanks for the video. We’ve got a 1973 MerCruiser 165 in Switzerland. We need some parts. Do you have any reliable supplier who might ship ? Thanks for your time , cheers 😊
I love it Michael trash the boat keep the Motor like you do with the others the Motor you can install in Another Boat I love when you talk Boats now we're talking
Glad you enjoyed it, more to come for sure, thanks for watching
LOL You sound like me, to much time on marketplace and just bought another boat also.
it's a blessing and a curse for sure, thanks for watching
Oh yea. On the re-power of Big Blue.....HMMMMM. Thinking of your other Rinker from a couple years back with the Mercruiser 470, compared to the 165. The 470 is smaller and lighter (aluminum block) with 5 more horsepower, but kinda has a little sketchy reputation when compared to the bigger heavier but bulletproof 165. Do you still have the 470? Just my thoughts.
Kevin at Junkyard Digs just got a boat with a cracked 4cyl block and a cracked outdrive(Mercruiser) and wants to restore it. maybe reach out to him...
Not a bad Idea. thanks for watching
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina oh yea he lives in Iowa also
@@supercrew63 I sent him an email, I hope he responds to my offer.
did you run it with water muffs? otherwise your gonna burn up the impeller. i have the same motor in my 71 sea ray srv190. old motor but strong. get your feeler gauge for the points ignition dwell gap.
for sure, thanks for watching
Someone else who thinks DRUG is the past tense of DRAG. IT"S not!!!
