At their peak the International Harvester Company was reputed to be the largest and most influential farm equipment manufacturer of the 20th century. These promotional and information films make up the fifth in a series of DVD programmes featuring agricultural machinery manufactured by International Harvester - a reminder of their heyday in which all things seemed possible.
During this time many marvelous machines were built with British, American and German factories creating the iconic tractors that we know and love today. We go right back with a wonderful old film demonstrating the immense pulling power of the TD18 crawler, also the B414 tractor making light of powering a B47 baler. The very popular 84 series machines are featured with the latest in transmission and cab technology and offering four wheel drive as a factory fitted option. Plus a unique film illustrating the advantages of going big - with the enormous IH 4586.
Certainly International Harvester was a force to be reckoned with in the middle part of the 20th century and these old movies go a long way to capturing a flavour of that success.

The 4586 was not a hydrostatic tractor as they say at 3:55 and again at 4:55.

Thank you for doing this series on what many of us believe was the greatest machinery manufacturer the world has known. Btw IHC also had a massive plant in Australia as well. The history of IHC is awash with many pioneering landmarks that have advanced the world . Their achievements have not been eclipsed by any other manufacturer yet even 30 years after their cessation.
Btw the 4586 did not have a hydrostatic transmission.

What achievements? Chasing Deere for decades and then coming up with the 2+2 and going out of business? Your giving what was really a company lagging behind way to much credit

Wish my 1086 had a different transmission. Runs great, but the trans and T/A are are nightmare. Also rides like a brick. Nice stack of weights on the baby tractors in this video (why?).

Australia here.We have 2 Inters here. A '72 766, 5900 hrs and a '77 1586, 9700 hrs. Both still running original T/A's. The trick as explained to a young me, by an old tractor mechanic,Inter TA's fail when stopping and starting in high/forward position. They must always be in low. Quality oil is very important, like Case Hy-Trans, to a long life..

We have had more than 35 V800's over the years and still run one. Very good engine for the time. Explain your problem?
