Thank you, learning all the time 👍🏻
At first I thought it was a repeat but Finns hair growth showed the stages. Good to see the complete journey.
Finally haircuts have been had 🎉🎉🎉

Great shot with the sun over the hill. Spielberg will be calling soon.

What an absolutely stunning part of the country.
Great video as always. Rory, there's no point running to hide because you just make yourself more conspicuous; your camera work is fab as always. 😊😉
Funny! We’ll tell him. One day we’ll get him on the video 🤞🏼
@@FarmingFiles I can understand his reluctance and that's fine. He's a big contributor to this wonderful channel and its nice to be able to spot him occasionally and mentally send a hello and thank you 💛💛
You are so kind and your comments are always encouraging 😊
@@FarmingFiles I am glad they are read as they are intended 💛 Wendy x
Yet another fab video thank you
Thank you so much
Fun video, and good on ya with the editing. Thanks!
Thank you 👍🏻
Truly enjoyable lesson on field use, Finn. Crazy how the birds were following the tractor compacting the ground. Lovely to see family and friends work together and helping. Enjoy this weekend and visit again Monday!
We will do thank you
nice, so much work just to get a carton/jug of milk and that's just till it leaves your farm. I should say so much work just to feed the girls. take care all C YA
It’s a constant cycle, busy busy!
Good work boys. You smashed another video. Was that Rory I saw in the red hoodie? One thing I did want to ask.Do you use all that salage yourself or do you sell off what you don't use to other farms
Yes you spotted him!!! We use all the silage we make, we have a great crop this year but the previous few years the weather was bad and we were short meaning we had to buy some in.
Silage is truly cutting edge
😎
🤣
What types of grasses do you usually grow for silage? In the US, Johnson Grass which is sorghum is common because of its calorie count which is high and its fairly nutritious & it grows well in warmer southern climates. Bahia is grown in dryer parts of the country for hay. It's not as nutritious but, it does well in arid climates. Rye is grown in the cooler and more northern areas for both hay and silage. Alfalfa, broome, fescue and wheatgrass are also commonly used here for both hay and silage. In areas of the US, mostly the midwest, where the primary crop is corn, that is often used as silage material as well.
Thank you for all that info, very interesting.we grow a mixture of rye grasses here for silage and grazing
@@FarmingFiles I was kind of expecting you to say Rye. It's better adapted for the cooler Scotish climate.
Why is the fork attachment hooked to the back of the tractor so they are driving backwards to get the silage into the pit? Seems like it would be easier if it were in front.
Hmmm, I think it will be weight and hydraulics as the silage is scooped up then lifted and pushed off the forks. There’s nothing in the front of the tractor which can do that operation.
Finn, and Rory, Cool episode, KC L, and I were on the same thought about how many people work your farm? and is everyone family? One last thing Finn, were is Katie, tell her Hi for me. Thanks for stopping by, love when you do!
Hi, thank you, lots of family and our workers and cousins staff too. Also some locals who always come and help with silage. Katie has a job!!!! She’s cleaning holiday cottages with a neighbour so that’s why she’s missing today!
Very enjoyable to see the whole process. Farming is such hard work! The views are stunning!!! You might Iike a channel I watch...10th Generation Dairyman...it’s interesting to see how similar farming can be in other parts of the world. Cheers.
Thank you, we watch him 👍🏻
Hah, Rory tried to get out of the picture but want fast enough. 😂
Well spotted!!! 😂
Wow! How many people are involved in all this work?
Lots! We have our cousins, our two farm workers, cousins farm workers from their farm and three people who always come and help us. It’s a great team
What happens to the critters like mice that live in the fields ?
Hi, the fields all have thick edges with hedge between some which don’t get cut. The noise and activity will make them flee. We are down by the river with all these fields so lots of places to go.
What do you mean by 'sprayed off'?
I hope it's no poison?
It’s sprayed with glyphosphate, It’s the only legal one in the UK as far as we know. Will need to ask Jan
Will there be another silage build in the autumn or is this it?
There will hopefully be a third cut but not sure where it’s going to go???!!!
Farming Files do you sell or share spare silage with relatives?
We never have spare silage normally, we have been short and had to buy some in the previous few years. A very wet year about 3 years ago meant we didn’t get enough cut and it’s taken until this year to play catch up. It’ll all go somewhere even if some of it goes into bales.
Farming Files wow that’s a lot of hungry cows!!!!
Is ‘The Chopper’ the base of what used to be called a ‘Combined Harvester’? How many jobs can it do?
A combine harvester cuts grains and separates the grain from the straw. This chopper replaces older trailer models which used to go behind the tractors. It just chops cut grass. We found a video of silaging at granny’s farm in the early 1990’s. We’re trying to get it on digital format so if we do we can show you all what it used to be like before the self driven choppers.
@@FarmingFiles Thank you. I'd love to see that video footage from the 90's if you manage to transfer it. I remember the 90's with great fondness: it was when my wife & I started our family. We had 3 boys, and they have all left home now and have careers of their own.
@@FarmingFiles It is amazing to me, that such a huge machine does just one job. Does the grass have to be chopped to a particular size for silage production?
V isions we’ll see what we can do 👍🏻
V isions it gets chopped small and bruised to help with fermentation - no idea if there’s a specific size??
Does Katie or Finn have Snapchat ?
No we don’t have Snapchat!
Farming Files okay
