Chiefs fans have been dealing with the Chargers being the offseason champions for many years now. At this point, the Chiefs being picked to win the division at the start of the year is more surprising than if they're not. It's just extra funny this year since the other teams were so catastrophically bad.
Man as a chiefs fan, I’ve been seeing the chargers picked to win big in every preseason since like 2003. No lie! Every year. It’s insanity
The Chiefs are literally the only team to be contenders for the Superbowl the last 5 years but somehow they never get the respect it's always someone else it's frustratingly annoying
the afc west spent a billion dollars to stop the chiefs just to end up in the same position as last year lol. they could have spent nothing and still got the same result.
Chiefs are gonna win the superbowl as underdogs, have the best odds in vegas for repeating as champs next year, and they'll still get picked to lose the division.

The worst part wasn’t even doubting the Chiefs - it was believing in the Raiders with Derrick Carr and not defense beyond Crosby.

In the last SEVEN YEARS, the Chiefs are 37-5 against the AFC West. It is the equivalent of going 6-0 or 5-1 every. single. year. The idea to PICK that in one off-season any of the other teams will just magically pass KC is such a bad bet. Let it ride until the Chargers, Broncos or Raiders even gets close to proving it.
As a Chiefs fan I've always liked Rich. Still do! Glad he appreciates the greatness we're seeing.

Been a Raider fan since '04, and I have never seen the Raiders ever favored in a season. Hearing Rich give us some love felt nice. But during talks with my bro (who is pretty good at analyzing teams and seeing positives in most teams), he noticed that the defense was still going to be an issue. No defensive stalwart behind Crosby, and Carr shifting to ANOTHER offensive scheme, regression was due. And we defiantly saw that.
The Chiefs still deserve the praise they get every end of the season. Denver was an anomaly. And the Chargers are snake bitten to fail regardless of the talent they have.

Cheffers made that call, the league backed him up, and now the league is letting Cheffers referee the Super Bowl. Cheffers hates the Chiefs and there will be several bad calls against the Chiefs again. Hopefully they can overcome the refs and beat Philly.

This off-season will be a test for the hot-take media. No matter the results of the Super Bowl, will media outlets say the Raiders, Chargers, or Broncos are over the Chiefs next season? Here's what I can for see them saying: 1) Herbert will win the division since he's no longer injured 2) Raiders (with a Rodgers trade) finally have their QB 3) Broncos have a real coach and will revive Russell Wilson. While these teams could be better next year, the Chiefs DESERVE to be projected the top until their not.

In Rich's defense I also thought that the raiders would be good this season. Not beating my chiefs good but I have seen glimpses of greatness from Derrick Carr throughout his Career and with weapons like Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, and Hunter Renfrow I thought they would be going somewhere this year. Still weren't the biggest dumpster fire in the AFC West lol
I got to say I looked at the Eagles draft picks for last year what's so special about it other than Jordan Davis and maybe the linebacker the Chiefs have five starters from one draft.
I think the Chiefs set themselves up to compete heavily the next few seasons with the draft this year

Raiders here. I can't think of one fan/talking head that had them pegged for the division. Wildcard, maybe. And a majoirty while feeling positive about McDaniels hiring were very dubious. And that turned out correct. He called some of the most stupid plays at key moments that tin foil hats had to be taken off. Another dumpster fire of a season.
The Raiders take was bad, but still not as bad as the many people who said the Chiefs would miss the playoffs, even though their floor for the entire time Mahomes has been the starter is overtime of the AFC championship.
Rich, as a fan who has rooted for the Chiefs since the AFL days, I accept your apology. In truth, you did not underestimate the Chiefs. You seriously overestimated the other three teams in the AFC West. Your consolation is that you were not alone. Hopefully, you have learned from your chagrin.
