A United Boeing 767-300, performing flight UA-108 from Washington Dulles, DC (USA) to Munich (Germany), was enroute at FL330 about 30nm southeast of Providence, RI (USA) when the crew declared emergency reporting a fuel leak and requested dump some fuel to return to Washington Dulles.
The aircraft landed safely in Washington about 80 minutes after declaring an emergency.

IMPORTANT:
This video is all about education. It's designed to give aspiring pilots and air traffic controllers a taste of real-world situations through example scenarios and helpful info. But that's not all! Current pilots and controllers can also benefit by listening to real radio communications from around the globe. This helps them stay sharp and think about how they might handle similar situations.
To create these videos, I keep my ear to the ground on major aviation news and events. I check the dates and time zones to see if I can find recordings of the radio conversations. Then, I become a bit of a broken record myself, listening to them repeatedly to create subtitles and identify key moments. Finally, I whip up some animations (or grab them from ADS-B websites) and combine them into a neat package.

Boston Center ATC lady SUPER SHARP! Clear, responsive, just seemed completely 'on top of it.'
AND, the more I hear, the better she gets. Then he goes to New York Center and that guy was just about as good. A fine day for ATC!
@@charlesmoore1762I believe that corridor, like Chicago and maybe SoCal, are the top ATC due to work load
Well Gollllllllleeeeeeeee.
One of those U108 pilots seemed bummed to return to Dulles.
Yeah; well, he's got to give the bad news to 180 people! Won't be his best day!!
@@casey3831at least it’s not always delayed like Kennedy or Newark
prolly had a boyfriend lined up
I have personally flown this airplane as captain many times over my 14 years on that fleet.
I wonder at what point do these 767's get retired?
sure kid
@@iwaswrongabouteveryhthingcrazy how he's got vids backing those claims up

Your opinion on dumping fuel for 5 mins vs just descend and burn it off enroute back to IAD?
I wonder if they calculated the fuel leak into the fuel remaining estimate. I'd be rubbish at the maths on that. Like those filling a bathtub with a hole in it problems.
They had 8 hours before and after the fuel dump... not sure if they were forecasting the dump or forgot to recalculate.
What a peculliar trajectory.
At 1:30 they have about 8 hours of fuel. Then, at 7:25 - after dumping fuel - they still have about 8 hours of fuel remaining?!!
He said he had 8 hours of "gas". He probably ate the fish.
At 5:30 she doesn't say "Central Aircraft" (what even is a "central aircraft??") but "Attention all aircraft" which is done to inform everyone on frequency when an aircraft has completed fuel dumping.
It's all my own stupidity. Sorry for that.
Homey has the infinite gas glitch
After dumping he still had 8hrs😂
So did they find out from where on the plane and how much fuel was leaking?
He said Baaaahhhwwwsttttonn
I love the way folks talk nowadays. "We'd like to declare an emergency". That's nice. Are you actually going to declare? Don't tell me what you'd like to do, just do it!. The FA says we'd like to welcome you to IAD! Nice, go ahead and welcome me then. I'd like to give everybody $100. That's nice too. But I won't actually do it. Don't tell me your intentions, just go ahead and do it! We have really forgotten how to speak proper English.
Check your title.. it's Dulles*
Let’s be logical…you suspect a fuel leak, and thn fly to the 2nd furthest hub AND dump fuel? Make that make sense…
It was a trans Atlantic flight. They have 8 hours of fuel. Do you know how much fuel was leaking? Do you know how fast was it leaking? Do you know how heavy was the aircraft? An overweight landing can cause structural damage on the aircraft.
It doesn’t seem logical to you because you don’t have all the information and aircraft knowledge. Don’t be too quick to criticize the flight crew action.
@@wtfudc You smacked him good.
@@wtfudcwhat are perfect response to one of the idiot masses on social media. I tip my hat 👌
Just want to wish you both good luck... we're all counting on you.
Surely you can't be serious.
United needs to change their old 767's for some competative planes.
787-8,9,10. Airbus A 330neo.
Lol our ATC is just something. Wait, you’re an emergency? Well I need the souls and fuel that you’ve already given
+ United 108 heavy , your homeless boy here on the south shore rong island NY , we gladly don’t mind at all you dumping fuel on our heads if it increases your chance of surviving even by 0.001% and l am 100% serious , you or anybody else , good day !
Worried about dumping fuel from 34,000 feet and it might hit people on the ground. Won't happen. Fuel will dissipate.
Sounded like he had gas
So what happens to that fuel as it hits the water? Do beaches & local fisheries get a warning of possible contamination?
At that altitude, it would evaporate and never hit the water.
It won't hit the water.
767s are the relics that should be retired.
Right out of the old SFO maintenance playbook
Another Boeing with maintenance problems?
What a dumb comment
Seems to be. Granted, this could be anything. An engine problem isn't really on Boeing, but who knows. The way they've been running things lately, nothing would surprise me.
You guys really need to cut the bull, I’m sure this plane is 20 something years old has to be a united issue and not Boeing.
@@flysmitty7035 Would you feel completely comfortable putting your kid or your mother on a Boeing plane right now? No? Then sir, it's YOU who needs to be quiet. They've brought this on themselves. If you can't see that, you're part of the problem.
@@dextermorgan1 I’m a pilot I trust any aircraft that undergoes proper maintenance
That doesn’t seem to be an emergency to me flying all the way back to IaD for convenience.
It was a trans Atlantic flight over the ocean. Would you rather find out a leak over the ocean, or over the land? Would you rather land on a runway or on the water?
@@wtfudc if it was an emergency they should have landed in Boston. But no United doesn’t really care because that inconvenient for their maintenance. No they should have used PAN.
UA 108 should've gone to EWR
I want to know how many hours you have in a transport category jet for you to come up with this hilariously bold claim.
@@jetpilott2420well, considering the QRH says land ASAP I’d say they are correct.

They don't like ATF Rain either 😢
Ya, I know that's the better choice, probably, making a joke, more or less.
Don't be hating my comment. 😊
Lol
You mean "Returns to Dulles"
Old trashy 767 typical maintenance issues
why diddnt they just land at Boston or New York City JFK
Good question.......... But sometimes the captains' agenda comes into play.
International flight. Helpful to get PAX back to place where UA can easily get them back on track.
Landing in BOS or JFK United doesn't have maintenance at either location. I believe United does B767 maint at IAD, so it probably makes the most sense in that regard. And they had plenty of fuel so there was no urgent need to land immediately.
Maybe better for passengers, if there’s a possibility of an overnight stop to get replacement plane?
@@charlesmoore1762 O
I wonder if nearby aircraft can scoop up the dumped fuel
Everyone wins
Another fake controller courtesy of EEO
The angry climate activists or the anti-biz jet activists will have a cow, same kind that hurt the atmosphere, cuz of the fuel dump issue.
The subs are horrible on this channel.
