- Vibe | Level 42 | Something About You | REACTION VIDEO
The Jazz-Funk band Level 42 track “Something About You”is an easy track to vibe to. This band has been around since the late 70s and has the resume to prove it. You can hear the British Band flavor we are use to hearing in clubs and radio stations alike. This is a great song!
"Something About You" is a single released by British band Level 42 in 1985, in advance of its inclusion on the album World Machine the same year. The song was written by Mark King, Mike Lindup, Phil Gould, Boon Gould, and Wally Badarou. "Something About You" was released in several countries beyond the United Kingdom, including United States, Germany, Italy, Canada, and many countries of South America and Asia. It is the only Level 42 song to be a top 10 hit in the United States, where it reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and it is their second top 10 hit in the United Kingdom, reaching #6 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was certified gold in Canada in 1986.
"Something About You" appears in many Level 42 collections: Level Best, The Very Best of Level 42, and The Definitive Collection.
Level 42 are an English jazz-funk band formed on the Isle of Wight in 1979. They had a number of UK and worldwide hits during the 1980s and 1990s.
Their highest-charting single in the UK was "Lessons in Love", which reached number three on the UK Singles Chart, and number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, upon its release in 1986. An earlier single, "Something About You", was their most successful chart-wise in the United States, reaching number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After much success as a live and studio band in the 1980s, Level 42's commercial profile diminished during the early 1990s following a series of personnel changes and musical shifts. Disbanding in 1994, the band reformed in 2001.

One of THE SONGS of the 80s. Timeless classic!!
Best slap bass player of all time.... straight OG. No 7 on billboard top 100
'Saw them live once in Columbus back in the day. I did not know who they were or had ever heard any song of theirs. They were amazing!~ I managed a restaurant right next to the performance venue. I got four free tickets to any concert at any time -- we fed their bands. Three dear friends came rushing into my office one afternoon and asked to get into the concert. Having four tickets, I went with them. L42 was mind-blowing...
My brother was a massive fan, he followed them everywhere and even got to know Marks mum and dad. They sent him Christmas cards for quit a few years.
The Slap bass is just crazy 🥰🤩🤩🤩
Mark King is the ultimate performer. He can play bass, chew gum, and sing all at the same time. I jest not, go look up some of their live shows. Absolutely magnificent! 💯
hahahaha I'm always so worried for him with that gum. LOL.
@Susan Higgins Ikr? I'm just waiting for him to accidentally swallow it. 😮 😅
Don't forget, he also did all that while hanging from a wire harness, flying around above the stage like freakin Peter Pan! Awesome!
Born in 1974 and I remember when this song came out, man what a classic 80s tune! Wish I could go back to the 80s ❤ best decade of my life! Great video btw!
In my sixties and still listening
This played on the store radio 8 times a shift at Ross Dress for Less. Didn't appreciate it then but it's a masterpiece 30 years later.
Their bassist Mark King is a beast 🎸💯🦨💤
They started off as a jazz/funk jam band in The Isle of Wight with no vocals. They toured the UK for 2 years before signing a record deal in 1980. When they got signed, they decided to audition vocalists and couldn't agree on one. Finally, their bassist, Mark King, and keyboardist Mike Lindup decided to trade vocals and ended up with their signature sound of King on low tenor and Lindup on falsetto. The original lineup of King, Lindup, guitarist Phil Gould, and drummer Boon Gould put out their best material from '81-'87 before the brothers left.
If you're new to them, here's my suggestion of albums to check out:
1. Standing In The Light
2. World Machine
3. Running In The Family
I still have my cassette tape of Level 42, love them
Hahahahahaha thats awesome!!!! I love Level 42!
@@pulse880radio4 Me too!!!! And I love my Level 42 cassette as a treasure. Best regards from Chile!! 💪🎶
First found Level 42 in the late '80s when they opened for Tina Turner (GF suggestion) and have been a lifelong fan ever since!
This is a great band! Love their music!
I had the World Machine and Lessons in Love albums as a teen. I moved to NYC and had a roommate who had lived in the UK. Only then did I find out they had a TON of other albums! Now I have them all. One of the best bands ever!
Saw them three times when I was stationed in the UK in the 80's. I remember the day this album dropped. Mark King is an incredible bassist. If you really want the funk, try "Kansas City Milkman".
Great lyrics
Love this BANGER ❤️👍 love your reaction 😂
Thank you so much!!! LEVEL 42 is a beast!!
the original line up of Mark King, Mike Lindup, Phil and Boon gould were simply awesome live, but their mangement wanted them to be more and more commerical and the brothers did'nt agree and left, for me Level 42 died that day and have never been the same since, but i still love listerning to their alumbs upto Heaven in our hands
