    “Unless you’re in truly thick bark you won’t need them” that’s going to really improve my climbing man. Dave you’re a big help! I climb mostly small oaks and palms, very thin bark, and with the palms smaller holes would be great

    Guys, please note. I took this gentleman's advice and I got the shorter gaffs. Best advice I'd ever received online from a CZcams video. Go with the shorter gaffs if you're not on the West Coast.

      chemistrycounts I'm in western WA and starting my own tree service and I use pole gaffs cause although yes I do come across lots of the thick bark that makes you lose footing momentarily at times you can usually get past it....sometimes yes I wish I had the longer ones for the nasty big trees with crazy 4inch bark but I can see how I'm not missing out on much

      Just get a good flat file, that what I did on my climb rights. For most/all steel that is hardened, you want to keep it cool when you sharpen it. This is to not take the temper out.... So don't use something that willheat the steel (Grinder).

    I have absolutely no business being here but I found your video very interesting. My first thought is do any of the company's offer a hybrid spike say 1 7/8" - 2 1/8" long to give that extra bit of bite and still remain close and stable to the tree? When I was a kid 10 to 12 years old my Dad had a set of pole spurs no pads just heavy straps top and bottom, we would climb the poles 10 to 15 feet up lots of fun. Dad would have killed us had he seen us..Haha Thanks for sharing your video.

    How do I know if I need narrow width or regular width for a set of cast aluminum pads? Is there a measurement I can take on my calf? I am 6' tall and 203 pounds. I would say my calves are about average for my height and weight. I would assume I would want regular?

    • @WesSpurTreeEquipment
      @WesSpurTreeEquipment  Před 8 lety +1

      Hi Frank,
      Unfortunately there isn't sizing available on those pads. Please call customer service if you would like to exchange them for something better for a narrow leg. Big Buck pads (not the wrap) might work better for you or the cast aluminum Narrrow pads. www.wesspur.com/spurs/spur-pads.html
      The cast aluminum pad is the only one that comes in a narrow size.

    Would you say that the Klein hydra cool pads are the most comfortable? I'm trying to find the most comfortable setup.

    • @WesSpurTreeEquipment
      @WesSpurTreeEquipment  Před 9 lety +1

      Stuart French Good question- the Klein Hydra cools are probably the most comfortable pads widely available on the market, although everyone has slightly different leg shape, height, width etc so it may vary a bit. A slightly more economical option that is similar is the Weaver Cushion Wraps- the velcro ones act similarly to the Hydra Cool Pads but at almost half the cost. As far as cushion and the moisture wicking/cooling comfort goes though, it is pretty hard to beat the Klein option.
      Depends how much you want to spend, but either of those will be very comfortable. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

      What would you say is the most comfortable saddle out right now?

    • @WesSpurTreeEquipment
      @WesSpurTreeEquipment  Před 9 lety +1

      That's a hard one, a lot of it depends on body type and weight. The best thing is to try a bunch on, but short of that a lot of people swear by the TreeMotion, the new Petzl Sequoia is noted for being comfortable, and the Matt Cornell Rope Saddle is one people are into at the moment for its customizability and comfort. It's really pretty subjective though.

    Weaver shin cups vs climb right ultra light?

    • @WesSpurTreeEquipment
      @WesSpurTreeEquipment  Před 4 lety

      Hi Manuel, it's a matter of preference and shin size. The Shin Cups have a steel insert that can be bent for a custom fit to almost anyone. The Ultra Light pads have very good reviews from climbers who they fit, but they tend to fit people on the smaller side. If you have big legs or are 6' or above, you may find the ultra lights bite a little. Let us know if you have any other questions!
