    Should've mentioned the angle of shank on the talons. They're shaped to follow the curvature of your leg, vs just a straight shaft going up. That's ones of the key difference about talons. Great vid though man.

      They cut my tendons on my lower knee. They should never be worn by shot people.the green plastic is what did it there's no way to get them low enough to fit.ruined my life.didnt hurt while useing them but it destroyed my knee in ten minutes. Used regular old spikes before that never had single issue that green pad cover is dangerous. Bought the talons and they adjusted lower but I still had to cutt of almost 2 inches of the shank length.angled inserts are the only way. Guys under 5ft8 and shorter.

      @Sethhaun78 Před 10 měsíci

      They make these new ones with adjustment but it's no where near low enough to wear .even in Carolinas. Those hard pad covers should be outlawed.

    Great review I love my OG Carbon Gecko's been climbing on them for over eight yrs and they are in great shape! I have kleins, bucks and aluminum bashlin and they never come out the building! Been thinking about getting a new pair of something... The Buckingham titanium look nice but the weight seems heavy for the price attached! Keep climbing and stay safe bro!

    I use the steel geckos, when I wear logger boots they stay put and don't feel loose at all. When i wear my hiking boots (what I wear when usually not wearing spikes) they seem to bea bit loosey goosey around my foot. Great video, thank you for your insight.

    I started with buckingham steel. For 250 bucks you can’t get a better spur than the gecko steel, I’ve got the gecko aluminum dmm edition and I love them. Decided to opt out of the carbons for durability’s sake.

    All three of those have the same ergonomic issue with the pad. They could use some more forward angle. Of course it works great for some climbers, and everyone has different legs. The velcro lower straps are a huge upgrade over the old buckles.

    • @Stridertrees
      @Stridertrees  Před 3 lety

      Yeah you’re right, the pads don’t seem to be EXACTLY right, but they are pretty close , and when I modified the carbon geckos to take the Talon shin pads it was a huge improvement 😅 I’ve had issues with the Velcro straps on my Talons going bad quickly, but the Buckle on the carbon geckos seems to be much more comfortable than the one on steel geckos for some reason... I wear thick supportive boots which makes a big difference in comfort. Anything thinner and the straps dig in uncomfortably like you said.

      The aluminum ones are good ! I’ve used them some but not as much. I think I didn’t mention them because they were similar in price and weight to the Talons and I’d probably choose the talons over those, but it’s been a while since I looked that up so it could have changed.

    • @adventuredave2446
      @adventuredave2446 Před 2 lety

      I have found that my buckinghams with the reinforced leather cuff and regular belt style strap we're more comfortable for a day in the tree then the geckos once they start building up chips I have had no easy way of clearing them. I borrowed a friend of mine's Buckingham's the really expensive ones and they had so much Velcro on them I don't think they would ever get plugged or have to be readjusted while in the tree. More experienced guys will be fine but I think the geckos would terrify a newbie 1 a month in the velcro comes undone on the Spurs they could barely afford in the first place.
