- From six-time FIFA World Goalkeeper of the Year Gordon Banks, to the all time record goal scorer in the top flight of English football Jimmy Greaves, HITC Sevens shares our view on a best XI made up of the greatest English footballers to have ever lived.
Where is Phil Jones? Not even a honorable mention?
Mate he should be in the starting XI
And chris smalling...
Spot on
Nathan Brown why are you mentioning Harry Maguire? Lol
@@monketakingyoutoparadise5609 Because he's a beast that should be there
Can we get a top 7 players unwanted by their club (Bale, Coutinho, Ozil, Icardi, Higuain, Alexis Sanchez ect. ect.)
Sanchez is actually wanted if you read what the man utd manager said
James Rodriguez lol
You comment this on every video
SancheZzzzz??? U mad?!
tommy d schwaab wherever he goes
7 players too good for their national team (like Auba on Gabon, Son in Korea, etc.)
That's a stupid idea.
Messi. And it is a great idea btw.
Mkhitaryan for Armenia
Jordan Henderson for England
@@julesakers3051 Messi? come on man

Everyone forgets Des Walker who was simply unbeatable as his peak
The only 2 things I would say is personally I think both Moore and Banks were better in 1970 than 66 although the squad was slightly worse and the Anathema of that great Brazil squad only beat them 1-0 and that Brazil squad was the greatest team to ever pull on a pair of boots
I wonder how many people will be angry that so many players pre-1980 make the team
Because, as everyone knows, football started in 1980, everyone before that is rubbish
But why would we say that? We won the world cup in 1966 LOL
@@mattinfullvision9598 Just head down to the comments and you can find people angry because Rooney isn't in the team
And yeah, Rooney was a talent but.. There have been better footballers than him
There's many people who disregard great players because they played in older times
@@voidvector6676 yeah it's strange, how can someone like me who's only a young man can appreciate players from the 50s and 60s yet not many people seem to be unable to understand the pure talent of players back then. What I find amazing is players like George Best who could drink and smoke to no end and still put in an unbelievable performance in on the pitch the next day
@@mattinfullvision9598 You're not the only one, I believe great players whether they're playing now or whether they played 40 to 50 years ago would make it in any era as there skills and talents would be completely transferable.
Void Vector I think it’s rather that people want to see players they have actually seen live or even seen at all
Thanks for picking Jimmy Armfield at right-back, one of the most underrated full backs of all time and a truly world class player in my opinion and a better player than Gary Neville. One of the first attack minded full-backs to play the game, I'm really happy you included him in you're team.
Gary Neville was bang average
@@bri1085
Bang average? 😅😅😅
Yeah, you must know something Sir Alex Ferguson, Glen Hoddle, Sven Goran Eriksson, Fabio Capello and Roy Hodgson doesn't know. Please. Enlighten us all with your footballing knowledge
@@stonecold6521 only one of those was actually a great manager, and he played dull football
@@stonecold6521 Very good right-back Gary Neville but not world class.
@@bri1085 are you saying Fergie played dull football 👀
So you’re telling me bobby Moore and Franklin’s partnership was better than Chris Smalling and Phil Jones’ partnership
Lol
Solid selection, really surprised Shearer doesn't even get an honorable mention, though
He deserves one, as did plenty of others, I just couldn't name everyone.
Even though I don't know half these players, I'm not going to complain. At least this gives an opportunity to learn about some old players that probably need some love. It's all just a fun thought experiment at the end of the day.
CZcams Duncan Edwards, you'll be happy you did. So tragic but there's a compelling case that the greatest player of all time isn't South American or Portuguese but English.. and that's coming from a South American!
Awww the GK one hit me... hard. RIP Gordon Banks.
Lincoln Jacdonmi legend
Interesting fact, even after losing the sight in one eye Banks continued to play. He went over to America to play
Interesting
@@garvintanhara1739 yeah I know, never played for England again but still played
You could play in America with one leg... Wack league
Video starts: Hello good people of youtube
Me: oh thanks i like thins intro
Stanley Matthews actually regarded Carter as his ideal inside forward partner although Carter never enjoyed playing with him funnily enough because he didn't know when he was going to get the ball back whenever he gave it to him.
Hmmm... no mention of Alan Shearer... if he didn't retire so young would have been England's Record goalscorer...
I loved these All Time XI vids the first time! I recommend doing vids for the following nations:
-Brazil
-Argentina
-Uruguay
-Germany
-Italy
-France
-Spain
-Netherlands
-Croatia
-Sweden
-Denmark
-Mexico
-USA
-Cameroon
-Nigeria
-Australia
-Japan

I’ll tell you the Brazil squad now
GK
Felix
DF
Carlos Alberto
Piazza
Brito
Everaldo
MF
Clodoaldo
Gerson
Jairzinho
FW
Tostao
Pele
Rivelino
No question about it the greatest team to ever pull on a pair of boots
I really enjoyed this video. By the way Jimmy Armfield is a brilliant Shout, his Positioning was untouchable at the time. I hope you make this into a Series even if it's getting only a few thousand views, because I really enjoyed!
Basque XI
Pep Gaurdiola XI with subs
7 greatest FA Cup upsets
7 greatest club sides of all time
Would have Dixie Dean & John Terry on the bench, but it’s hard to argue with anything else given the reasoning behind the choices. Clearly a lot of thought and work into the video. Great, informative content👍🏻
Cheers Cj 54.
where is Titus Bramble, Carlton Palmer, David James, Joey Barton and Emile Heskey
AGAGAGGAGA HAHAHAHAHAH 😐😐😐
I would have put Bob Paisley as manager , England’s most successful manager of all time . Won 3 European cups never mind cloughs 2 and won countless league titles
Thomas Metcalfe you have to realise that clough got derby a league title 2 years after getting them promoted, also got newly promoted forest a league title, 2 ucls and 2 league cups within 2 years
George wba yeah , I understand that , but he deserves a shout at least
Thomas Metcalfe definitely
I love how much you’ve put me on to players I never knew of. Your depth of research and reasoning has given me knee insight and a broader understanding of the game. 👏🏾
best football channel
i get that players from long ago were as talented as players now but i feel like this guy goes too far the other way and overlooks more recent players and slightly over rates old ones to make more interesting content
Ye but England have been playing football consistently well since 1860s so there’s a lot of choices and he only put in 1 from post 1990 when there should’ve been 2 or 3 I think
Can you do a more modern England eleven, maybe post 1990? I love soccer history, but it’s slightly disappointing because I’ve never seen any of these players play. I’m not one of those people who don’t think anything before ‘90 counts, but I’d just like to see this
What's soccer?
Would love to see a best England XI during your lifetime. Makes it a much more likely to know how good the players are through actually seeing the players play the game.
How do you leave out Paul Gascoigne? Maybe the most naturally gifted English player of all time. He should have made the XI.
Gazza was a fantastically gifted footballer but Glenn Hoddle beats him there
Yeah I see people saying he was the "most naturally gifted English player of all time". It's become a catchphrase extolled by the likes of Lineker and Shearer. Doesn't make it true. It's something people like to repeat.
Never mind Paul Gascoigne where is the ultimate slabhead Maguire
wayne conway excuse me? Carl Jenkinson is way too good not to get a shout here
Glenn was great and the best passer of all time but Gazza probably beats him out in every other area
Reunited Austria-Hungary starting XI?
Love the way he announces all the players from early 1900s like he’s watched them week in week out
Brilliant choices
Actually surprised at how many I didn't no in this team. Pls do more of these 11s
Imagine what the players like Charlton, Matthews and Greaves would be like if they played today, with today’s technology, nutrition, knowledge of health, with lighter and quicker balls, no smoking, better boots. And like players like Pele and Maradona, imagine what they could do if they played today
I actually love the amount of debate to be had in this XI. Shows you how much talent we’ve had over the years
Just 1 world cup to show for it though
Do this for the top ranked countries in the world
7 best brazillian footballers
7 best england footballers
7 best french footballers
7 best spaniard footballers
7 best german footballers
and other major countries
The English really under appreciate Wayne Rooney. Not only that, but the managers failed to build England’s team around him. We all saw what he was capable of doing for England in 2004.
Please can you do Liverpool all time 11
Please make another one of these videos i love it so much. Please do one for Portugal or Argentina
Portugal front 2 eusebio and ronaldo
Please do Brazil all time XI next!!!
Disappointed Phil Neal didn't get at least an honorable mention at rb as one of the most decorated players in history.
Hi Scott, the fact he was pictured was my attempt at giving him an honourable mention!
@@HITCSevens Fair enough hahaha love the channel anyway mate
I love these types of vids

Center-back: Sir Bobby Moore
Center-Back: John Terry
Left Back: Ashley Cole

Central Midfield: Frank Lampard
Central Midfield: Steven Gerrard/Paul Scholes/Glenn Hoddle/David Platt (I can't decide)
Left Wing: Sir Bobby Charlton
Striker: Gary Lineker
Striker: Alan Shearer
Matts Bobby Moore Isn’t Knighted
Loved it, please do more
If the Munich air disaster hadn't happened, I believe with all of my heart that Bobby Moore WOULDN'T have picked up the World Cup of '66. That honour would've gone to the late GREAT Duncan "Big Dunc" Edwards
Was just about to suggest this the other day after going through some old vids, a top XI all time of top nations (say the top 9 on fifa or based on World Cup winning nations first), would be great
How could you forget Bobby Robson and not even mention him as a contender to be manager. Arguably the greatest English manager of all time.
Hey,can you do all-time Liverpool? Like so he can see it!
I'm surprised you never mentioned Johnny Haynes in you're entire video, not even an honourable mention. Many people including Pele always regarded him amongst the finest passers of a football there's ever been.
My grandad went to school with him. A truly brilliant footballer and a very important figure in the history of the professional game, being the first 100 pound a week player. There's not enough superlatives in the world for Haynes. Magnificent.
@@TheGregcellent Brilliant player as you say, very suprised he wasn't mentioned in the entire video and as say the first £100 footballer in English football. The main reason arguably for England legendary 9-3 destruction of Scotland back in 1961.
@@TheGregcellent Does you're grandfather have happy memories of Haynes?
@@olayinkaamara385 I remember my grandad telling me that Johnny was a year younger and so had to play in goal sometimes at lunch! One day he put the ball down at his feet, dribbled it the whole length of the playground, rounded the keeper and walked the ball in to the net. He turned around and dryly said "can I play in midfield now?"
@@TheGregcellent 😂😂😂
1st: Gordon Banks - Billy Wright, Bobby Moore, John Terry - David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Bobby Charlton, Stanley Matthews - Kevin Keegan - Wayne Rooney, Gary Lineker. 2nd: Peter Shilton - George Cohen, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole - Nobby Stiles, Paul Scholes - Bryan Robson, Frank Lampard, Paul Gascoigne - Jimmy Greaves, Harry Kane.
how is the centre back partnership not John terry & rio Ferdinand, two of the best ever, like I understand the players pre 1980 , were great i feel if you’re going to do vids of all time xi, you gotta do it on people you’ve watched or in the mordern generation , 1975+
You cannot make a greatest player(s) video and then put artificial limits on it to keep a few people ignorant of history happy.
We won nothing with Ferdinand and Terry in defence.
Well i mean Bobby Moore did win the world cup.....
And England won the WC in 66 so to ignore that squad is insane
Really enjoyed this video and learnt alot about englands history. However, I would have Bobby Robson. Defiantly will buy your book, if I order it now will i get it for 15 augest?
Hi Jake, that is the plan. I don't have any hard copies yet but as soon as they come in the pre-orders will be sent off.
Great video. Would love to see some more in this series
Not quite sure how these videos didn't do well before..That was an interesting one
Where’s Chris smalling?? Phil Jones??? Ashley young??? Jesse lingard???
There man u players
Why would he put them
The 1980s 90s and 2000s was a golden generation. This is just the 1950s period apart from Ashley Cole
I think Finney & Edwards are the only player in this XI that won the majority of their England caps in the 1950's, Brian (Matthews about 50%). England never showed themselves to be the best team in the world in the 80's, 90's & 2000's, they did in the late 1940's and in '66.
Thanks for putting in Duncan Edwards
Can you make a modern version of this? Year 2000+
Im guessing that would literally just be a golden generation team with nobody else making it

My XI (4-3-3 in attack and a bank of 4-5-1 when defending): Banks - Wright, Moore, Butcher, Pearce - Gascoigne, Robson , Charlton - Matthews, Lineker, Rooney
These videos would do so much better if you kept it post 1960's... very few people know half the players mentioned here
I think it would be more interesting to have top seven players of all time for each country. XI videos are also fun, but it would be interesting to have both types.
Glad that Hoddle and Lineker got a mention

Keep it up with these national teams
We’re is rob green like wat a player best gk in history
We need kids these days to learn about the greatest ever, Duncan Edwards. Not just saying that either, listen to Winterbottom, Sir Bobby Charlton, Di Stefano, those who saw him play they say he was the best. And that was at only 20 years old before he died... such a tragedy he's never mentioned in the Pele, Maradona convos bc his life was cut so short
As a Bolton fan obviously I would like to see our home boy nat lofthouse in the squad but his stat for England were very good 30 goals from 33 caps
Best player of all time list
HITC guy: “#1 Caveman from 10,000 B.C, Caveman had an incredible ability to kick a ball and was one of the smartest players of his era”
Rooney deserves a spot
should’ve done the best XI from after 1990 because realistically not many viewers will know players from the 60s 70s and 80s
I was waiting for the Nat Lofthouse mention, surprised he was not on the bench

Love it when players who make 10 appearances for the national team get in the team just because they were 'great' and played a handful of club games. Imo you have to have played a certain amount of games to be one of the best players for that national team. If Messi played 5 matches for Argentina he wouldn't make the 11, despite being one of the best ever players.
How Shearer, Terry and Keegan aren't here is beyond me
Keegan not even an honourable mention . Wow , just wow
I’ll definitely check out your book

Can you do this for more national teams ? It would be nice to hear your all time Peruvian XI because our golden era in the 1970s had amazing players
He would pick Solano
