- This took a lot longer to make than usual mainly due to the fact I only used Long Sword like 5 times all these years of Monster Hunting.
Also, my Premiere Pro keeps on crashing for no reason so Thank You so much Adobe.

@@Harv-E Do you know what the third bow skill does? The one that replaces herculean draw. I've tried it through cheat engine but I can't figure out what it does based on the animation alone.
I'll look into bows and bowguns in couple of days, wanna finish blade masters first and then get into ranged weapons and their skills.

Funniest part is, a lot of LS players on CZcams are saying the 2 new ones will straight up REPLACE Iai and Soaring Kick. Like, never to be used again, it's crazy. So it'll still be 3 counters again lol.
@@mistermagic7002 i don't play lance and i can feel the pain of lance people. I find it sad that lance got such "lame" upgrade compared to longsword. But at the same time, i was wondering : longsword has counters because you kind of "evade" attacks (also because it got the power of cool anime samurai), but if you had a counter for the lance, how would it work? Because lance is an heavy weapon. Just curious of what kind of upgrade lance main would have liked.

Bringing back the trusting damage where you would get best weakness modifier when attacking a point weaker to blunt damage or cutting damage(since lance has rather low motion values it would help get it back to the same level of the other weapons without changing them)
Alternative option for the "poke" combo and the chargeable lance attack.
There's so many ways to make lance fun again :(

I feel like these two are going to became staples in the LS moveset. Sturdy spirit slash looks straight like the Valor parry from GU with the added bonus of gauge level-up, really exciting and will probably be the fastest way to get to red gauge. Then you can spend all of that build-up with the Sacred sheathe attack, which appears to deal massive damage if fully charged.

After going into Frontier, it feels like there was some inspiration taken from the LS moves over there. Also, that valor-like counter can retain spirit combos, essentially letting you counter between spirit slash 2 and 3, etc..
There’s a lot of moves that seem to draw inspiration from Frontier, and for this game I think it’s cool

some things not super clear about the counter art which I thought were cool:
-fills about half spirit gauge on successful counter
-hitting the attack allows you to continue the chain in your spirit combo
-hitting the attack on a successful counter lets you do it with no delay (this also means you can continue a spirit combo if you run out of gauge)

Yeah you go into spirit slash combos real quick after successful parries with these moves.

I don't play LS much nowadays but damn that Sacred slow sheathing animation is smooth.
Sacred Sheathe is:
- Spirit Blade combo ( Finisher grants gauge level)
- ial Counter ( Grants gauge on counter )
- Helm Breaker ( Consumes spirit gauge to deal massive damage)
- Serene Pose ( Auto counter when hit)
- Drawn double slash/ial slash ( Attacks generate a buttload of spirit blade gauge)
How nice that they packaged longsword's entire kit in one neat move.

There's a quick sheathe 3 mod, I used it to test it out.
How good is it? Does it feel as fast as special sheathe lvl 3? If so than it looks like it'll be the new Valor Parry, which is insane.

@@plus-delta4477 Iai quick sheath is like a sheathed stance, then you press rt at the right timing to counter.
Sacred sheath requires you to hold rt, then let go during the sheath when you get hit to counter. Wrong timing will cost a level, and with right timing you still need a follow up spirit slash to gain a level. It's basically a worse foresight slash as a counter. Quick sheath shortens the sheath animation aka the parry part by a bit. In the second part of the animation, the charge, you can't parry or roll.
Sacred sheath is still a long charged attack and you should see the "parry" as just a failsafe during the sheathing part.
Did you try focus too ?

Even though the weapon has also gotten a flat 50% Nerf to Iai sheath counter, and also they nerfed the damage to soaring kick and both spitit combo enders. That won't stop people from complaining of course

That damage at with the sacred sheathe at the end is more than a true charge even when buffed by the strong arm stance.

@@bavuh1249 ye basically valor counter with critical juncture movement, and it raises spirit gauge by one as long as the GP is successful (doesnt matter if you hit it or not)
Serene pose is the closest analogue. Instant counter frames+follows into spirit 3+4. Very doable to hyperfocus it with wirebug whisp 3.
sturdy slash feels like valor counter and hit followup frames, I wouldn't be surprised if they were a nearly exact framedata match. Its main utility will be laughing at monsters forever without interrupting your spirit combo and generating gauge really fast to abuse with sacred sheathe charge-up.

dont let the flashy moves fool you, Longsword has been nerfed significantly, at least from what we see in the demo. There's a 50% damage reduction on Iai Slash, and Helm Breaker and spirit combo moves have been nerfed as well.

With Sacred Sheathe and Sturdy Spirit Roundslash, IMO, A quick sheathe may not be necessary for LS ?
1. Sacred Sheathe can do both auto or manually counter immediately without completly done sheathe animation.
2. Sturdy Spirit Roundslash can do quick counter without sheathe animation.

the only thing that ever bothered me about modern LS is how forgiving the timing on the parries are. This goes for pretty much every parry in rise too. Foresight slash by itself is like a whole 1.5 second window and most of the other parrys in the game you just hold the button down to get the desired effect.
Yeah I kinda get it. Capcom is clearly put longsword in counterattack box slot in melee weapon. For good players it gives a lot of options in fights. You have answers for almost everything. But if you look at it from new player perspective - to be effective - you should put yourself in risky situation until you learn this fight. In the end - it's more of a playstyle, tho still not polished and a little coflictive for all melee weapons.

They use cheat engine to unlock the moves. The moves are already in the demo's game data, just hidden.

I'm sure it'll be fun to play, but LS really doesn't need more ways to level the spirit gauge. The ease of getting red is why it's the most powerful blademaster weapon in Rise. Red means more full power helm breakers and you can literally already do them seconds apart with ISS
Helmbreaker is no longer that powerful now with its 50% damage reduced.
@@marcusaaronliaogo9158 they've had to nerf it because they keep handing out spirit gauge levels like candy. That's my point. You don't even need spirit to get to red anymore. Helm Breaker, until Sunbreak at least, is LS's power spike, but it happens too often. Instead of nerfing aspects of LS that allow for easy level ups Capcom has opted for the rather braindead option of cutting numbers. Depending on how hard it's nerfed Helm Breaker may not even be worth using.
Being the most powerful melee weapon in MH is like being the most powerful ant. It's insignificant compared to ranged weapons, which might as well be mammoths.

I can see the sacred sheathe having a decent risk reward to it since it's draining the spirit gauge while charging
so if that auto counter goes off and it still drains the meter i wouldn't be mad if it just had the same MV throughout all the levels

That's not quite how it works. The counters, both automatic and triggered by you happen *before* you fully sheathe your sword. The spirit level drain and attack charge happen *after* you're fully sheathed. At this point, only thing other than releasing the attack you can do is the side hops. You're most vulnerable during the charge, if you get hit, you suffer normal consequences of getting hit. Once you release the attack the video shows you are immune or at least resistant to flinches. So while you can still die, at least you won't be knocked out of the attack.
Sooo yeah, plenty of risk, plenty of reward.
Honestly, I hope that in new monster hunter games they get rid of the Helmbreaker to make room for this sacred sheath as the new "powerful, spirit-level draining move", with a bit of toning down of course... as much as i dont like this "anime-style" move animation-wise, at least it's not as ridiculous and ineffective sometines as the helmbreaker
I agree that sacred sheathe looks like it’ll be more fun than helmbreaker, but I’d rather longsword go back to its old identity of building the spirit gauge in order to maintain a temporary buff. 5th gen LS’s identity is about building spirit gauge and then spending it for damage, but I would prefer something closer to valor LS in GU where the play style is about building the gauge and then making the most out of the time that it’s active instead of repeatedly building and then un-building it

@@Harv-E Quick question: For the post-sheathe part of the Sacred Sheathe combo (the charging part), does it count as a counter? Or does countering only occur during the sheathing animation?
During that slow sheathing animation you can do a counter by releasing the right trigger(we gotta hold it for it to charge), or if an attack comes your way you'll automatically counter and lose spirit level, damage is real bad on both occasions but manually doing keeps the spirit level and fills the spirit gauge to max so you can fill up your spirit level that way in combination to sacred sheath skill.

Nope, that doesn't count as one but it has hyper armor.
So they gave it the GU counter, but it gives you one level and you can combo it into the normal spirit combo to get a second level. You have a charged attack that does a shit ton of damage and you have an auto counter. Is there any reason to play any other weeapon?
That auto counter doesn't deal good damage, you're better off do it manually by releasing the right trigger and the parry window is pretty big.
@@Harv-E It doesn't matter how much damage the auto counter deals. Anything above zero is good. What matters is that you literally cannot mess it up. Every other counter in the game requires some sort of timing. This one you can literally just hold and it will work, and still reward you with damage either way. Its all reward with zero risk.

Never played LS in GU so I wouldn't know but it is easy enough for someone like me who has less than 10 LS uses in total.

@@MrMaddy24 Sunbreak Lance is alot better than Rise Lance at least. They buffed every aspect. Will still be at the lower end dps wise but to be fair that was always the case except for Gen 1 and 2
I don't main lance but it does suck that Lance gets the short stick (get it?). Though demo Sunbreak Lance is super fun. With buffed Insta-Guard it's back to Adept Lance tier fun.

So just confirming, for Sacred Sheath all of these damage numbers shown in the beginning were exclusively from that attack: 108, 147, 288, 465, 635?
Yes, but the 147 and 635 were from hitting the Velociprey in addition to the Astalos. Only 108, 288 and 465 were on the Astalos.
I think they landed on hard spot of his tail. It's a 3-hit attack if you use up all your gauge from red.
On Rathian at the end is better display of its charged attack damage.
@@Harv-E understood, I'm just trying to figure out the power difference between this and helm splitter. I'd also be curious about the strength of sacred sheath if the attack is performed from yellow (just in case HS at red + SS at yellow is more total damage).
@@terryems88 If you perform it from yellow you only get 2 hits, you need to spend all 3 levels to get the full combo. The motion values for the 3 hits are: 55 - 155 - 250
@@ralph8589 interesting. HS's MV at red is 395 (unless it's been nerfed). So on a downed monster it'll most likely be best to do HS into a yellow SSC.

Watch them nerf the insect glaive's new move into the ground even though those stupidly high numbers can only be achieved with 4 people consistently.
But this one has a combo and the last hit does 1000 damage.

The insect explosion is said to have a bugged mv. Also, the mv’s of certain skills like this could change.
if the MV is bugged they'll jsut fix that and if anything i don't see them nerfing the damage... maybe at a push have it so the IG can only use their own powders
@@marcusaaronliaogo9158 it better not be bugged, this one LS move hits as hard as getting your entire team to throw in as many dust clouds as possible. I've seen it reach almost 2k, but the LS seems to hit for that much with all hits as well.
That last hit for 465 I believe was due to the Velociprey jumping in right at the last moment as the blade came down. Little dude made it confusing 😅
