- Did you country make it to the list?
After traveling to over 60 countries solo, these are the 10 countries that I felt safest traveling in, as a woman who is traveling alone. I also share the 5 places where I had personal encounters that made me feel unsafe, not to discourage you to visit them, but to help increase awareness on what could potentially happen when you travel alone.

Switzerland - I travelled here as a young woman with another female friend and we had a horrible experience with a man who offered us a lift. Exposed himself in the car - thought he was going to turn into a forest and full-on attack us. There are good and bad people in all countries - it would be wrong for people to think somewhere is safe on one person’s experience. Happy travelling ✈️🎇

Thank you for saying "affordable" and not "cheap". Cheap is never a compliment. Cheap-skate, cheap date, cheap trick, cheaply made. For some reason so many travel youtubers use the term cheap-which has 5 definitions in which 3 are bad.
Well... When you feel bad or uncomfortable about a word or about what someone else say, it's more about YOU and your preconceptions or "assumptions" than the word per se. 😉
As a German I can confirm Berlin not being that safe. When I was there nothing bad happened but I was never out when dark. Better go to Munich or small towns in Germany, Bavaria is very safe.
Was it the Immigrants again?
@@JoshuaC-Work nah there are just places that aren’t that safe due to drugs.
So nothing bad happened when you went yet you confirmed it’s not safe? Okay dude
Same here. Stayed in Berlin and a German man came up behind me asking for sex. I was only 16.
@@thepopularloner7082 nothing bad happened just because I was careful. Can you read? I said it’s not save going out alone at night as a woman. But hey I won’t stop you if you think otherwise
Austria 🇦🇹, and Salzburg. Took the train through different towns all the way to Italy solo and felt so safe as a female who didn't know much of the language
Thanks for this. I want to travel a bit alone, and hearing the "unsafe" stories is very nice to have a realistic image on traveling alone as a girl.
I agree that it might be pretty representative for the solo female travel experience overall…. but it is by no means is a realistic depiction of these specific countries - bad things can happen anywhere
I'm so pleased you listed Canada as one of the safest places. Makes me proud to be Canadian :) We do try to be nice!
Great video thanks for sharing
Love this video and your honesty! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I just travelled to Japan and was really blown away with how safe and friendly it was. I was almost a little confused as to why an entire culture (country) feels safe, while others don't. What makes people different like that (not individually, but as a culture).
I'm watching this as a Canadian I smiled seeing it on your list!
from Malaysia and glad you felt safe here!
Hello there.. tq for your sharing. i came across your channel while searching for the list of country that safe for women to travel alone . happy that you included malaysia on your list 🇲🇾
I've traveled to many countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and I had my phone stolen in Lucerne, Switzerland. I let me guard down when I read about how safe it is, but afterwards I reminded myself that people come in from all over, and I have to constantly be on my guard. Lesson learned. Never let your guard down no matter how safe a place feels.
thank for your share
Love this video! One thing that I learned and wanted to share with you is to look for a duffle bag that best fits your luggage and has all the wonderful features a bag can have especially in plane travel use. I'm using Nomad Lane's Bento Bag and it's a good choice.
A lot of these places remind me of my home in Kansas ❤ makes me not scared to branch out
So I visited Berlin for a week and didn't feel safe. Nothing happened. There was no logical reason why I didn't feel safe but I just had a vibe and it set me on edge for the whole time. I was travelling with a friend and staying at the Cat's Pajamas and just that area itself, we'd rush out of it every morning, I didn't want to be out late because I didn't want to walk through it at night. Then we went to Budapest and vibe was a complete flip. We'd walk home to our hostel 15 mins out of the city centre with no concern after a couple of drinks. Sometimes it's not just about the things that happen but trusting your gut when it tells you to be wary.
I went to Europe solo earlier this year and had the exact same experience!! I seriously didn't feel safe in that city.. Flew to budapest right after Berlin and felt so much safer.
Because of the amount of immigrants in berlin, though Budapest don’t accept illegal people and it’s very protective of their population. Lived in Berlín for a year and a half and I felt the very same
So a bunch of immigrants makes you feel unsafe basically? Erm, that's a bit racist.@@esthergarcia219
Hey! Muse thank you so much for this video because I really needed this video so so much you are my inspiration and I wish you reach 70K Subscribers very very soon!💕💫☺️
You are so welcome!
@@Bemytravelmuse give me heart comment 😭
I live in Japan with my family now and everyone feel safe in that country your right that is devloped as well culture anime and safe country make it the best country
11:45 In case anyone was wondering the area is one of the most diverse in Berlin, mostly Turks, Arabs and Kurds live there
thanks alot!! can you give some tips how you got in touch with so many locals?
Switzerland is welcoming if you have money. If you're poor, you'll quickly be looked down on.
Totally not related to the topic of this video - but where did you get your jacket? The colour is gorgeous!
Thanks it’s Columbia 😊
I’m so sorry you had that experience in Nepal 😭😭 I apologise 😭
Hello madam. This video help me lots. Please suggest cheapest solo itinerary for Switzerland.. I love traveling. I love watching your video..
Sorry to hear about your trip in the Philippines. That's very unfortunate, but i hope you'll give it another go. Beaches are actually nice and the locals are very accommodating. But thanks so much for sharing these! Learned a lot!
and she didn't localized it. She said the whole Philippines.
Hey Kristen, you're one of the few solo female bloggers who's spent a substantial amount of time in China, and thank you for including it on your rec list! Despite its sheer population density, China has top hospitality and very low crime rates especially involving tourists, which is not something that's widely known to the international audience. The people may not appear as "polite" or "attentive" as the Japanese, but they are extremely warmhearted and take it upon themselves to help you out. Hope you can go back to explore more of the country! Gansu and Xinjiang provinces in the northwest have ancient Silk Road remains and otherworldly landscape that look like Mars.
It also helped that she is white. As a Chinese born who escaped that hell scape country this wouldn't be the case if you are Asian (and God fobid if you're any type of Asian other than Chinese or if you are a darker skin Asian).
That may be. I also forgot to mention I speak mandarin and that did open a lot of doors.
@@Bemytravelmuse that definitely helped and would have been a good point to make. Because if you don't know the language (and regardless of what I said about race) scams are rampant in China if they realise you're an easy target (you don't need to go far in google or reddit to see the warnings about taxi and shops trying their best to make the most out of tourist wallets).
Not knowing the language and being a female are two of the worst combinations to have while traveling to China so it's definitely not a good country to recommend so openly.
@@Yuusea What part of China is the "hell scape" part? China's average per capita GDP (nominal $12K) has crept up to the level of many Eastern European countries, on par with a Bulgaria or Romania (which is impressive considering its 70X the population) and the Tier 1 cities, i.e. Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, are downright luxurious.
@@Yuuseathis is just not true. If you ask for help, most of the Chinese people would try their best to help, regardless of you ethnicity. But if you do not ask, it’s just harder for people to go out of their way to help you, because they are not sure whether you need their help or not. Chinese people are generally reserved, it’s not easy for us to start a conversation with strangers. But when you look foreign and probably in need of help, people would notice, and they would reach out.
Do you have info on the tours you run in Namibia?
❤ from 🇨🇦 🍁
I’ve always wanted to go to India to study yoga but am hesitant about the climate (I don’t really like super hot humid climates even tho I live in Florida lol). Also is it safe to go exploring as a single female? What is appropriate dress there in order to blend in?
I’m gonna search through your other videos and see if you’ve covered it.
As a Nepali citizen, I would like to apologize that you had to experience that here like genuinely.
Literally though! Like catcalling and staring is common for us women, but groping? Crazy.
I have been groped once in my decades of solo travel... In Bethlehem on Christmas Eve. The only place I had someone try and break into my room was San Diego.
Had 4 break ins living in California 🤷🏻♀️
Cali is on another level.
What type of visa did you have for Namibia for the 7 months you were there.
I traveled alone in Spain and felt very safe!

Totally safe
Dont go
Tbh, it really depends on what part of india u wanna go, if its mumbai, ppl do wear revealing clothes there but if its delhi u need to be careful but jeans and tops are obv not problematic, revealing tops coyld be a problem. Similarly for other states. Mumbai is the most open minded city i would say
It’s not safe for solo female travelers, go with a group
As a Chinese immigration to the US for over a decade, I must say I do not feel surprised at all that China made the list. Most people I ran into are nice and willing to help if needed. Just a few notes: you might come across scams in hot tourist sites, overcharging, pocket-picking, etc. But these people might treat white people with more respect, which I do not like since I have to admit Chinese are very racist. And people will treat you with more respect or politeness if you dress nicely and high-end. Yes, Chinese admire wealthy people and they treat poor people badly. Other than that, I feel completely safe in terms of your physical safety. You might be pocket-picked, but 99.9% chance you will not be hurt or involved in any sorts of violence, which is quite different compared to city life in the US.
Thank you for those ideas based of your experiences ! 👏🤩🤍
It shows where you can travel solo as a woman and where you can’t ! 🤩🤍👏
I really enjoyed your video!!! As a Chinese American, you have no idea how much it meant to me to hear someone actually speak highly of China. You're right, unfortunately it is a very misunderstood country. I have never been there before, and I admit that I have been ashamed to have origins from China. There have been many reasons I have not decided to go, but your video gives me hope and courage that one day I may go there. 💗 Looking forward to watching more of your videos! Thank you!
What about the best place your company can send you to. Any ideas?
since I am danish I would like to know if you have been to denmark
Yes and I enjoyed it!
Finally!!!!!! Someone categorizing countries according to sexual harassment. Thank you and I'm sorry those things happened to you. I can totally realte. I had guy chasing me to hit on me in Hawaii in only 6 months, It was daily.
im so sorry :( that's so horrible 💔
That's unfortunate but good to know about Nepal and the Philippines. The Santiago experience sounds crazy. Also a nice surprise to know that Africa has been so safe for you! I had a former coworker who thought it was the worst place, but he also flew helicopters for an oil company there and stayed on their compound at all times. I guess that's technically central Africa too, not in the South or East.
It’s a HUGE continent with completely different cultures and potential experiences depending on where you go. I imagine that job wouldn’t give one the best perspective of a place
You ve had mainly good luck hardly met many when travelling or maybe was just wrong season. Hostels had mainly snobby types plugging away at laptops lol. Noone has given me rides or bought me free items lol I wouldnt actually accept lifts to be honest. But then that s just my view.
Have you visited Australia?
I live in Vancouver, and I wouldn't say that Canada is the top safe country. 😅 But it also depends on where you live in Canada.
Honestly depends where you are in Vancouver
I find eastern Canada safer than western Canada and stats wise that’s true. Eastern cities like Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Halifax all have lower crime rates than western cities like Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, and even Vancouver - Calgary is the only exception
One suggestion if you could leave the country name on the screen while you talk about it, that’d be great
I had a great time in South Vietnam and I saw a lot of other female solo travelers. You do need to watch out for thieves and scammers in big cities and high tourist areas just as you would in those areas anywhere else. I actually think my own country ( USA) is more dangerous.
i am surprise when u named malaysia on the list and not country like korea or even taiwan…….i am a little bit confuse
China? maybe in the provinces for a tourist like you but I don't know in the cities.
All East Asian countries are very safe
Just discovered your channel. First i want to appreciate your positive comments about africa it is not wholly depicted in the media. You have an open heart and mind that i truly admire.
Then I really must bring race into this so i must say must be nice to solo travel while white. Totally different experiences for a black woman.
I have solo travelled in europe and i lived in china for 4 years and whereas it was safe..I was not as welcomed.
No hard feelings, it is what it is you can only report on your experience. subbing for inspiration for my next destination but as for experiences go…imma go to my black sisters who solo travel😃any one you can recommend?
Absolutely - there is enormous privilege that comes along with being white and traveling and I see it, I’m uncomfortable with it, but I also benefit big time from it.
I really enjoy Oneika Raymond’s takes on solo travel as a black woman. Like me, she has a child and mostly travels as a family now, but you might enjoy her shares. Glo Atanmo as well!
@@Bemytravelmuse thank you!
Living in China while black seems like suicide…
*Nepal?*
I'm honestly stunned by that one. I've traveled solo all around, and Nepal was actually the non-Western country where I felt the safest of all. I stayed for a very long time and felt extremely respected by all the men. Everyone seemed friendly and humble.
But I guess assholes exist everywhere.
every countries there is some areas not safe for solo traveler. . even america..
semoga bala tetap sehat selalu
Are you visited India❤🎉
All people are afraid with gorkhas but its most safest place in the world✌️🙏
I am confused. Your videos seemed so good, but then I noticed you have 1 video in which you say that Namibia is safe (this one) and then another one in which you say that Namibia is unsafe - this one: czcams.com/video/4IlQ7g1E2Jo/video.html Can you help clarify why you have 2 conflicting stories about Namibia? Thanks
I did not say it was unsafe! Just that it can be difficult to travel around by yourself, purely because of vast distances and logistics.
Sorry, I wasn't meaning to be rude. It probably came across that way though. Thank you for clarifying. @@Bemytravelmuse
if you think the us is unsafe for women don’t ever go to brazil 💀💀
Is Spain/Europe safe for women
I would say generally, yes, pick pockets are extremely common, so be careful with that.
@@Bemytravelmuse okay awesome, thank you for the reply!
Namibia is safer then the US. That is damning with feint praise !
I knew China would make it to this list
Few people know, but Iran is a very safe and beautiful country for women to travel alone
Lol
@@justsomerandomgirl I feel sorry for you for being so ignorant
Iceland is a place I'd like to visit but why does rape come up online with Iceland?
Sorry, I have to comment. Why put all of the Philippines not safe while putting the other 4 into localized places
Why travel so many times and say it's not safe?
I wish you wouldn't include Brazil in the South America unsafe travel list. Overall it is no less safe than US or UK but travelling alone there as a woman in early 2020 was the most empowering experience I've had in any country. Men are respectful and kind and everyone is super friendly. ❤
It wasn’t mentioned because it’s unsafe outside of the big cities, but rather than it can be difficult due to the language barrier. This was the opinion of someone sharing with me on social media.
A you tell me about your experience in South America? I want to go next summer
I do have to disagree i absolutely adore brazil it is a lovely country but I have had the worst things happen to me as a woman there. Sexual assault and just a lack of consent and lack of respect for my boundaries were very common. The people of brazil are very kind generous and fun but sexism and violence against women is a very real and valid concern. I am from the uk and it is definitely less safe.
Overall however brazil is a beautiful country because of the nature and natural beauty, the gastronomy and the kindness of the brazilian people still worth a visit depsite the issues
lol how is malaysia be safer than switzerland
I feel the single incidents you had in Nepal and Philippines maybe just that . There are bad people everywhere. There is no place 100% safe
China??? This surprised me. I am an ethnic Chinese. The first time I/we went to China(Shanghai), my impressions were, the place is beautiful but people are rude, impolite, not helpful to tourists(including govt officials and airline personnel) ,scammers. Well at least many that we’ve met.
I think a lot of big cities can feel that way. But the small towns, people were amazing.
@@Bemytravelmuseas someone also of Chinese descent I agree with OP. I think it’s because you went to the inland provinces where most people are not ethnically Han Chinese that you experienced better hospitality 😅
The sound of your jacket was distracting
I know the name of the video is called ”countries where I FELT safest” but I still think it’s a shame to emphasise these one time events and thereby discourage people from travelling places. I personally had an awful experience in Copenhagen in a lift - where a man started full on wanking and asked me what my hourly rate was, like these things can happen anywhere! Of course there are places that are more or less safe, but then I would look into statistics rather then listen to these singular accounts…
I get that this is just someone sharing their experiences and that it’s not that deep, but I feel like spreading these stories just unneccisarily gives countries a bad rep.
I’ve personally been to all the places on her ”unsafe” list (except for the Phillippines) and haven’t had a bad experience in any of them… obviously the Tanzania one is moreso valid because it’s a weather thing…. but overall a lovely place.
In Nepal I even spent a full on two months and loved every second of it, and it’s literally known as ”India light” - and I think it’s a great starting out country if you’re new to the travelling scene!
Santiago de Chile and Berlin are cities…. cities tend to accumulate a lot of weird ppl… that being said, these cities are not more dangerous than any other……
China 100% make sense. It's generally very safe. If people come off as "rude", they are just direct and don't dance around around culturally, especially the working class, they dont have time for that. You almost have to switch off your guage for politeness and understand that it's all neutral, they are not deliberately making you feel bad.
Namibia has a homicide rate of 17 per 100k ppl
United States is 7 per 100k ppl....
Most places are probably a lot “safer” to travel than to live in. At least proportionally in comparison to the statistics. But sometimes it feels like a lot of travellers just makes shit up like saying a country “just has a bad reputation” or is just as safe as the UK just because nothing happened to them on their 2 week trip.
Namibia is number 68 on the global peace index and the U.S. is number 131. I’ve been to Rwanda which is also Eastern Africa and it is true, as a woman I felt very safe there unlike in the U.S.
@@jabbejonsson2773the U.S. has mass shootings almost on a weekly basis if not more often as well as robberies, murders, and so many more occurrences. There are many countries in both Africa and Asia where the people are civilized.
@@Tina-pw1hr Been to like, lived in as a local or visited as a tourist? I bet if I hit up the main attractions in the US I will have a completely different experience than someone living there!
@@Tina-pw1hr The US is a lot bigger. Most fatal shootings in the US are not mass shootings but gang related exc. It is a very unfortunate problem still, my hearth goes out to the victims. But you can’t ignore that the homicide rate is more then twice that of the US. There are more than 100 times population in the US so counting how often something makes the headlines is not very representative. Rwanda and Nambia are far between each other. Africa is a whole continent of course some countries may have less shootings than the US but please go by yourself to rural Kongo/zimbabwe/Mozambique and so on by yourself and tell me you feel safe and comfortable!
😂 what are you talking about ? Namibia has a crime rate near Venezuela...
Talk about staying true to the narrative ..
the safest places on the planet are homogeneous and have high avg I.Q.
this should be a no brainer... it still boggles my mind many women will ignore their intuition and stick with "all humans are the same" and any difference thats negative is another "groups" fault
Dear why didn't you visit India... If you missed it means you missed a world
Because it’s one of the most dangerous places in the world for a woman travelling solo.
@@misscoffeebeans It means you don't know anything about this great country..Should we just believe on hearsay... Do we really get 100% correct information on internet.. I'm giving you a youtube channel name ...gypsyinsneakers....this channel belongs to a girl named susan, from Netherlands...you must watch it once, she is exploring India... India means Paradise
@@kidscafe493she literally made a video that she left India because she had an unsafe experience with creeps. She's also not out all the time by herself. And commenters from India saying India is best when with a trusted guide, they admit it's not suitable for a solo female traveler. I would love to experience India, but the track record for safety for women has not been great.
@@bistander& now she is coming back to india in November ❣️ bcz she loved India and India loves her
Not me watching this as a female from Finland dreaming of solo trip to Berlin and cycling from there to Poland Krakova and trying to get some info on the safety. 🥲 And since I also want to sleep in my tent I guess I need to rethink this... 😭 But seeing Finland mentioned here warm my heart. ❤️🔥 Also seeing you dip in avanto makes you one sisukas perkele. 😝🤣
Yes, unfortunately Germany has become increasingly unsafe and dirtier over the last ten years. We are also aware of this here in Germany. A lot has happened in Merkel's politics and it is difficult to correct it now.
