Regarding shadow work...Near the end of the song he says, "And you know how I know I will prosper? Cuz I stand here 'beside' you today." Rather than implying he has conquered his shadow, he implies that they are standing side by side. And then he seems to celebrate that integration lifting his voice in song. So wonderful.
I agree with this interpretation. I think the evidence is that his chords, even though he is jubilant and dancing, the chords are still, "dirty," chromatic. Also the lights are flashing for the first time without it having to be solely the shadow self taking. Still there, but integrated.
Love this!! Thanks for sharing ❤️
@@Mhantrax Exactamundo.
@@Mhantrax also, his voice tone changes on "ferocious, persistent, immortal like you".
Yes! Exactly. It's an intense and transformative journey, speaking for myself. And it's not about reaching a destination, the move toward wholeness is the journey itself.
I am unable to break down this song in one video, hence the length of this video. It's impossible. Honestly, I feel like I didn't even do it any justice, so I think we need a part 2 😂 what do you guys think 🤔 😂
Please stir up the conversation ❤️
Oh, and I forgot to mention he's singing voice. Wow, absolutely amazing 👌🏼
All for it...still a great reaction....this was pure art....
When I look back over my life, all 68 years of it, I cannot recall being as impressed by an artist as I have been by Ren. For almost 2 months I have watched several Ren videos and reactions. Ren is so full of unique creativity. Please do more Ren videos. You may be the best reactor I have yet seen. So mature for your apparent age.
@Patrick Quinlan wow thank you so much that ❤️, I have to do more Ren reactions, so be on the lookout 😀
Brilliant Reaction! Amazing Insight! Subbed💯
For what it's worth... I've never seen subtitles mangle a song more than this one.
Ren was misdiagnosed a decade ago by doctors. He actually had Lime Disease but they thought his mind was playing tricks and gave him strong drugs psychotropics and told him he was crazy. The Lyme disease ran amuck for 7-8 years. He is currently in Canada receiving treatment to undo all the damage done. his life was dramatically shortened by the misdiagnosis but he is doing his best to stay in shape and recover all the stolen years past & future. Basically it's like having a broken leg and the Dr telling you it's all in your head and prescribing a bunch of super strong psychotropics for 7-8 years. I saw an interview the NHS would make fun of him for asking for more tests on his blood. They are the pig in his videos.
Thank you for all the research into Ren's background. Most of what I am stating here will not be news to you but might be useful for some of your audience. Here is some additional information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. I gathered it from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990, he grew up in Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren’s Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints.
Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad."
Ren’s recent wisdom tooth removal went well, but he is currently battling an infection following cavitation surgery, and he is not feeling well.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

Hey, Jens, his Wikipedia page spells his middle name as Erin and has citations to back it up.
@@stevensudit Thank you for the info. I will update my comment in the future. The Wikipedia page must be new, as there wasn't one two weeks ago. People kept asking me to create one, and I started but never got around to finishing it.
Great reaction. Very insightful. I love the quote about the mind being a tool to be used, not a friend to be trusted. Thank you.
It's the best quote I've heard in a long time
Huge Alan Watts fan here too! He changed my life!
"she sells seashells" is a refference to "Money Game 2" a video in which he wants the audience to never loose their self & their dignity to pieces of paper (or sea shells).
What a fantastic and insightful reaction! Ren, Jung and Alan Watts all in one video. Inspiring! Congratulations on finding and recognising that place of silence within yourself. You have a new subscriber here. You have a calm clarity to your approach that is a rare thing and I look forward to your future reactions and observations. All the best from the UK.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊, I hope you've found your inner peace too ❤️
Great reaction. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day.
Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on CZcams are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.”
Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal.
Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world.
Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).”
As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great.
"The Big Push" busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are awesome and well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong,” “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive.
In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work. Ren has hinted that he might release his newest song on March 29, which is his birthday.

Thank you so much for the info. Very insightful ❤️
The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will always be a battle. It's a powerful piece of performance art that gives "broken" people HOPE. It's a beautiful masterpiece. Ren is special. You asked at the end, "what is it all for?"...Ren has an answer for you here- czcams.com/video/AELZPM1e0yM/video.html

You need both sides of you, the eternal dance is the balance of the duality .... Ren's negative/grounded side helps to manage his expectations and keep some perspective preparing his optimistic/flying side for the fact that life's outcomes are, for the most part, 50/50
Absolutely true. It helps to have different perspectives, just like yours. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
Yes, i think i liked 'bad' Ren's humor and vitality, 'good' Ren's softness and resilience but both are needed for Ren to create, to be and become.
I've watched every reaction I can find, of this song. Yours is my favorite, thus far. "Hi Ren" is a masterpiece, across multiple mediums. I enjoyed your perspective and, interpreted it similarly myself, on first listen.

Brilliant reaction, it's the first time I've watched you and I like what your saying. Ren is an unbelievable talent the line that gets me is " the voice that you hear when you losen the noose on the rope" I've heard that voice when I was in a dark place, and thank god I did because I've have 4 kids and a beautiful wife and been lucky enough to spend time with them all. Thank you for your insight on anxiety and mental health. I can see your halo. I'm definitely going to read more on shadow work.
You are the first Ren reactor to mention the shadow. Well done. Great reaction.
I basically got from it with somethings I also learned from mine and related into this message that "Existing" is the cure....Not to give upp but stand and accept it and let time do its thing...We all want a quick cure and to rub it off and move on like we were Gods and super natural but we are not and sometimes we just gotta go through it till we make it to the end....or not but we must accept it as our "Dance partner" and just go with the flow...
Awesome performance by Ren and awesome reaction by Zayyhan Bartis!

Will definitely check it out. Thank you so much for watching ❤️
congratulations on achieving calmness and stillness of your mind.☮
I do not do meditation but I do contemplative prayer. In prayer of the heart the goal is to achieve stillness of mind while saying the prayer such that it isn't your mind saying the prayer, but your heart. If you achieve this, you can stop saying the prayer with your self and listen to your heart pray it for you. It's absurdly difficult to achieve, I have perhaps experienced it for maybe 5 seconds out of the countless hours, days, and weeks of prayer. Those who master it have hearts that sing to them of the mercy of God continually whenever they are silent to listen to it, but it takes great faith to achieve.

You said: " These are the kind of reactions I want to do.
I want to do meaningful reactions..."
I would like to hear your reactions to the songs of Aurora...
All of her songs are very meaningful, and all are greater than the other.
Ren and Aurora got quite a lot of similarities...:
Both of them is multi-talented geniuses...
They are both free and independent, in thought, feeling and action, and in their songwriting, performance and interviews.
Both are free and independent in the task of publishing their own music.
They can be a little political, but most of the content, in their song-writing is about existence, identity, emotions and thoughts...
All her songs are great, so just choose any...
Thanks so much. I will definitely check out Aurora ❤️

Sober expectations > low expectations.
Im also a huge fan of alan watts. I have listened to so many of his talks now, and i find myself laughing at things in my daily life, and just experiencing the joy of being alive and experiencing things!
I didnt know what love towards self really meant or felt like, until i started doing my own homebrewn version of what you call shadow work.
These past few months of being closer to myself, feels somehow more real, than the 34 years of struggles and pain that preceeded it.
Thus i am thouroughly stoked to see someone else mention both shadow work, and alan watts and meditation.
I wonder if you have also had some experience with psychedelics, but i fully understand if you dont want to be too public about that, in this time of waning, yet still very real, prejudices against psychedelics.
I'm so happy that you are showing up for yourself and improving on what's an already amazing being. 👏 keep up the good work you're doing great 👍
Regarding the psychedelics, I've been doing some research on microdosing, but if you've got some suggestions for me, I would really appreciate them
@@ZayyhanBartis
I dont know you, so i cant really be too concrete in suggestions, but i can share my own story with mushrooms, and you can make up your own mind about it :)
I found self love before i tried mushrooms. A few months after, to be specific. I ran into an old student of mine, from when i used to teach parkour. And he had had alot of experience with various drugs and psychedelics in the meantime. Sober now, realising he had gone too far with ketamine. Anyway, the student became the teacher, and he guided me through my first experience with mushrooms.
The trip itself was alright. An interesting experience for sure, but not in itself life changing for me. But the afterglow... its been about a month since my last trip, and i still feel the subtle effects of it.
It feels like i went into the trip, being me. And came out of it being even more me, somehow. I notice more beauty in things. I trust myself more. Music speaks to me more. Fiction makes me cry even harder, than before. I feel less anxious about things. I overthink less. It feels easier to change tracks, mentally, when its good for me to do so.
This is a common story, that is somewhat supported be brainscans of people who have done mushrooms, showing increased activity all around, suggesting a higher interconnectivity of regions of the brain, and a tendency for more direct links, bypassing the default mode network, which iirc is where the ego lives.
I felt safe in doing mushrooms, because i prepped alot with documentaries, and talking to friends who have already been through it. And because i have already practiced being with myself, and my emotions, whatever they are. Its important to genuinely not fear a bad trip. If you can find the attitude of, "i trust myself to handle, whatever happens", then that calm in itself will reduce your chances of a bad trip drastically.
Regarding dosage, my first trip was done gradually. 3, 1 hour intervals, of 0.5 gram dosages, to make sure i could handle it.
And i recommend doing it when you have the next day off, as well.
Well regardless of what you choose, im sure you will choose correctly for yourself :) good luck with it all
2 wolves live. Insider. Each other of us one. Good one bad which 1 comes out you decide the 1 that you feed does
I dont think shadow work applies in his other video "Sick Boi" he calls out the psychiatric world in a big way
🧘♀️ Regarding your meditation goals, congratulations, but also be aware that your relationship with meditation will constantly change, including difficult "dry" stages, even with daily practice.
Teresa of Avila (Renaissance Catholic nun) broke it down into 7 basic stages or "mansions" that everyone goes through. I've modified it to less religion-specific language here:
1. Distracted and bored
2. Master of meditations, inner peace
3. Dry routine, no peace anymore
4. Awakening contemplation, random moments
5. Frequent contemplation and bliss
6. Dark Night, the shadow work is all you see
7. Oneness

Please check out more of Reighn’s music and share it because it’s helping people all over the world awaken to dealing with her mental health issues!
Check out his song called chalk outline’s live w Chinchilla; patience (precursor to Hi Ren from earlier in his illness); sick boi; full version of the tale of Jenny and screech ); and some songs with his band, called the big push specifically “I shot the Sheriff/road to Zion/hip-hop” and “bongo bong” ! ❤❤🔥🔥✌️✌️
you should listen to chalk outlines next
You should read "your true home" the everyday wisdom of thich nhat hanh. It's Buddhist lessons. It could help with being still
And he does this song in one take and he keeps beat the. Same beat? Throughout the whole song if you ever notice
I think he intentionally placed the part where his "dark side" overcame him and took over after he was able to make his "good side" angry. In my personal experience, I've not had a good outcome when I let my anger take control of the situation. Thats usually when we say something regrettable or even worse and we have no idea what is happening in the other persons life. we are so consumed with our own life/desires that we lose perspective of what really matters
Have you reacted to Tool 46 and 2? All about shadow work
Do not read about The Tale of Jenny & Screech review it full no spoilers its a story don't spoil the ending (you're the boss this is a humble suggestion that, I recomend for your benefit)
What you’re seeking is integration. This idea of shadow work is very deep. It’s where the yin and the yang comes from Alexander Solzhenitsyn said it like this.
Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains ... an unuprooted small corner of evil.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, in 'The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956'
Call Young said that in order to be a complete person one had to integrate both sides for a few ignored one of the other, that one would come out in all sorts of hideous ways

The subtitles when applied to artists such as Ren are worse than useless. they are a distraction.
I enjoyed your reactions a great deal to the NF videos, and this one was actually not bad, except for the fact I couldn't get past your opening remarks, and then of course half through had to tie Jungian nonsense into the meaning of the song. The following is not me "hating on you" or trying to belittle you what so ever, but I'm just a tad over twice your age, with a whole lot of life experience under my belt, some I wish I didn't have, but no doubt I'm stuck with for the rest of my days. Consider me in touch with my Wise Old Man self if that helps, while your trickster self is up front and in charge.
So with that said, you ARE NOT doing "shadow work" I promise you you're not. I'm not sure if you stumbled on Carl Jung on your own, or if you're a fan of the insufferable Jordan Peterson, or if you just started so called shadow work because it's all the craze right now in Hollywood and with influencers. Here's the deal, it's not just that you only think you're doing shadow work, but attempting to "do work" with that part of your psyche is rarely achieved and often long lasting negative side affects can occur when falling short of interacting with it. Personally, while I believe that parts of our psyche and subconscious that play roles in our mental health and spirituality line up perfectly with certain traits and characteristics of the Shadow, I still refuse to use that verbiage, or refer to anything related to my psyche as Shadow, or any other ridiculous names Jung came up with to describe self, that already have established names and quantifiers.
I did spend a lot of time studying Jung and once thought that was the right path, If you wish I can give you a laundry list of reasons to stay clear of Jung all together, but I'm rambling a bit too much as is, so I'll save that for another day. Shadow work is an oxymoron of sorts, because you're not supposed to be in control of it, it's something most people can or should access in order to confront it. It's something you should be aware of, and recognize when it's reared it's ugly self. I know what shadow work is, you're trying to access trauma, grief, emotional pain, anxiety learn to release it or deal with it easier in order to build up a tolerance and have some control over your shadow, which you can't do. I'll leave a couple links below, one is why it's dangerous, and the other is something I fell prey to long ago and is a must to be aware of if you want to be spiritually healthy, it's called Spiritual Bypass.
Lastly what really got me, before I knew for sure you were doing shadow work, and what personally grinds my gears is that shadow work bastardizes good ol transcendental meditation. That is not the way you meditate, to try and be at inner piece or to shut out the noise completely, at least not until you're top level meditation guru. I'll tell you a simple secret that no one thought to explain to me until I had first been doing meditation for almost 3-4 months and was ready to quit. Like you, I have an ADD brain, I'm a third generation worry wort, I'm constantly going over what I have to do in the next hour by afternoon by nighttime, oh boy it's a mess up there. So when I first did meditation I did research and then started with guided sessions on youtube. All I knew was that sounds of nature in a quiet room in my basement was what helped to get me started, and then all I had to do was concentrate on my breathing, imagine my lungs going in and out, imagine my lungs are like the ocean waves that are crashing on my nature sound track, just keep all thoughts centered around or in the motif of breathing.
For months, I couldn't go more than 1-2min TOPS, without going, was I supposed to meet Gary for lunch today or tomorrow, CRAP, breathing breathing..........Oh shit, what did I do with that dry cleaning ticket, I gotta pick that up this afternoon, CRAP...breathing breathing.. and so on and so on. Finally I struck up a convo in a Discord chat room I hang out in sometimes and was telling a few people into meditation my frustration and that I thought I was going to quit. They then explained to me that I was doing it properly and pretty well, they said if you can go 2min straight, even once in a while that's impressive, I'm like what, how, I only do like 15min a day, there's people that do a couple hours a day, or more.
They said no goof ball, it's not as much about your mind STAYING on your breathing, it's much more about stopping the wandering mind and bringing it back or reeling it in. They said think about it in terms of lifting weight, like curls, you don't just pick up the dumb bells and the lift them to you chest and hold it for 15min do you? That wouldn't build your muscle at all, no, you straighten your arms, then curl them up, over and over, and after days and weeks and months of doing that, your biceps grow stronger and more productive. Same with you inner self, having your mind wonder, then reeling it back in over and over is what helps you quiet your mind when you really need it, at the minimum makes it much easier to handle the stress you're dealing with. After that everything clicked, and within a month I was seeing marked improvement with my anxiety issues, confidence and conflict resolution issues.
I'm not trying to poo poo on what I know feels like something that's finally helping you feel confident or less anxious or just having slightly better days than you were a month ago, I'm really not, I know too well what it feels like to be stuck in that rut and then finally find that ladder that could get you out. At the very least read these two articles, they're short, and if you continue forward just be aware of the dangers, and don't get so invested that you depend on it, ok. Keep up the great work, you have a beautiful soul, I noticed that the first second of the first reaction I watched, and no one can ever take that away from you. ✌️💚

Thanks for the advice and insight. I will definitely read the articles 🙂
I have not heard anyone comment about his speech when he said when he was 17 he challenged the forces of evil and the result was autoimmunity, disease, and psychosis so what he is saying is there are real forces of evil and they don't like being challenged but this is what christians do,not physically but spiritually because the bible call us christian soldiers, that being said,we do not challenge the enemy(just like a soldier do not decide strategy on his own but follow the instructions of his superior officer)we wait on Jesus,to tell us where the fight is going and we fight back and we conquer but we do not go out to look for a fight like Ren did,but he said he have learned wisdom through the years, that being said,God have turned around the evil that tried to off him and through his suffering he became stronger and are doing God's will for his life.Like Jesus said,John the Baptist ate honey and wore camel skins and the pharisees said he was mad,Jesus ate and drank and the pharisees said he was a drunkard. So God use all kinds of people.

I know it seem like a lot of reactions videos to do but trust me his music helps people to grow and to overcome adversities in life. Plus NF has a huge fan base so by reacting to his music your channel will also get more viewers. You won’t regret reacting to his music.
Amazing reaction and congratulations on your progress with meditation it truly is an individualistic journey that can feel overbearing at times with the many reflections of living life. I don't know if it will help your mind but something that has helped me is listening to lectures by Alan Watts as you mentioned or someone that speaks profoundly like Ram Dass. I discovered by listening to another's thoughts mine becomes silent in comparison and allows a dialogue with myself more organically than something I felt i had to force. Here is a link for your convenience but regardless on where your journey as well as your channel take you I wish you the best expierences in both.
