  • Instructions on how to replace the idler pulley on the M271 1.4 L supercharged engine (03-05)
    You'll need to remove the serpentine belt (check my video list for a video on that)

    According to mercedes WIS/ASRA database the torque spec for the idler pulley is 20 nm (14.75 ft-lb). 25 nm (18.43 ft-lb) for the tensioner pulley and 58 nm (42.77 ft-lb) for the bolts of the tensioner

    Thank you .I want to replace by DIY.have the tools.But I can't it because I don't know bolt torque of each parts.What can I do?

    I think I would probably need to replace idler pulley just like in this video...because of the noise in cold start...but the other noise when I turn on the a/c on cold start that comes from the tensioner but am not really sure if is the whole tensioner or just the tensioner pulley??

    Do u need to use an e14 socket or can you use a regular metric or imperial socket?

    Can u do a video on how to replace the serpentine belt tensioner??! I need to replace it cause when I turn on the a/c it starts to some skeaking sound coming from the tensioner....or maybe am wrong? Can u help me to identify?? And in cold start a very loud sound comes from the belt but when the car gets warm,no more noise

      replacing the entire tensioner pulley is difficult. You need to remove the supercharger because the bolt holding the tensioner mechanism is blocked by the super charger.
      you either have a degraded tensioner or a defective AC pulley that's causing excessive drag and thus tensioner bounce.

      +Ste .L thanks a lot...if that is the problem I will work on checking that!! Thanks u!!

    Hey was it a knocking sound.?

  • @EndlessXConcertgoers88

    Did you fix the turbine sound from the engine after changing the idler pulley? I am experience the same issues with my c320 2001.

    What are the symptoms of failure, I'm experiencing a chirping noise which only occurs between 30-35mph at idle/revving engine there is no chirp. Any idea what it could be?

      .none. have someone rev the engine in idle while you inspect each pully. Maybe you can pin point the issue then. Look for a bouncing idler pulley as the engine changes rpm.

      Ste .L thats exactly what ive done, at 3 to 4k revs. It only occurs at that very specific speed higher or lower speed it is not present. Shall i lubricate the belt or pulleys with a small amount of lubricant?

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 6 lety

      .none. the built shouldn't have at lubricant on it, it needs the friction. Try some on the bearings if you can.

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 6 lety

      .none. I would just take the belt off and spin each pulley to find the defective one. I should have a video on how to do that

      As the idler pulley is easily accessible, do you think i could remove it without removing the tension off the belt? Will replace idler if needed, could this be refitted with applying pressure to the belt in situ?

      Nelson Oliveras Not a fun job unless you have a lot of time on your hands. You need to remove the air box and unmount the supercharger to get to the nut on the back side of the front engine cover. If you are going to do this or going to pay someone to do this I highly recommend Buying a set of breather hoses and having the breather hoses tucked under the supercharger replaced at the same time. I really loved this car but I forgot what a mess it was to get in and work on that engine since so much is packed in a small space.

      Mercedes does not sell the pulley as a separate part so you will not find trowue specs for it. The internet suggest if might be 26 ft lb, but the best way is to check how much torque you need to take off the bolt.
