  • The Mazda rx7 FD is undoubtedly a legendary car, often used to drift.
In this project, I used a 1/10 RC model body of it to build a base out of LEGO bricks and make it a functional drift car.
Its features are: all-wheel drive with rear locked and front opened differentials, high steering angle and MacPherson suspension.

I apologize for the poor micro quality 🙏
If this video has good reception, I promise I'll upgrade.
🤔 Have you liked this new video format with my voice or you rather prefer the style of my previous videos?
What's your opinion on mixing LEGO with RC components. Is it worth it to lose it's purity in order to gain some performance? Or do you consider MOCs should always be 100% LEGO?

Or less weight. I made a AWD drift car with the same motor but smaller and with lighter battery. It can drift really well and is easily controllable

I don't think mocs should be 100% Lego. For me this is a huge topic. For the benefit of the designers at Lego they should see how we mod and create new pieces to increase functionality of models. And by the way I loved seeing the whole process of designing and building the moc in this video. It's exactly what I want to see out of techbic creators on youtube

The guy from Instagram recommended to put the differential on the front, when you asked about it. But you also have put it on the rear, even though differential is almost always either locked somehow (manually or LSD) or welded when people wanna drift. So yeah, I think you should do it without differential (at least on the rear axle). If you will to return to 4WD version, you could adjust ratios in a such way to make rear wheels spinning slightly faster, with that you get constant oversteer, thus it's easier to go to into slide at any moment.

  • @TodayGarage
    @TodayGarage Před 2 lety +32

If you are going to have different gear ratio differentials, put the faster wheel speed in the rear. The faster wheels will slip, hence why your front is slipping now and giving too much understeer. You want the front to grip and the rear to split.
Good luck! I hope to see a version two! ✌️

To drift with AWD, lock both differentials and use a 1:1 ratio between front and rear wheels.
For a more realistic drift, the REAR wheels must spin faster, otherwise if the front spin faster, you will understeer.
You will need to improve steering angle.

coming from the RC drone community with 2 very fast (though broken now) cars, Lego Motors are absolutely anemic, gutless, weak etc. i built a lego 4x4 crawler a while ago and while sure, it wasn't meant to be fast, it was so disappointing i never drove it again.
i would go further with the electronics, go full custom, 4 cell LiPo with Brushless Motor with powerful ESC. even better if the RC link is ExpressLRS.
