I'm not going to make a habit out of defending our takes in these commentaries, but I want to address something real quick:
The "Freaky Alien Genotype" joke has been used by a *lot* of people in our fanbase to literally just say the word "Fag" without actually saying it, time and time again, whenever we bring up anything LGBT+ related. Which sucks for a lot of reasons, not the least of which being how genuinely demeaning it comes off, considering there are multiple queer people on the team. It's also just... not very creative when it's used for the billionth time.
(Also the entire basis of the joke is Vegeta using a slur as a badass one-liner. It's shock humor that relies on "gay = funny/gross". As a gay man, it aged poorly for me especially.)
So yeah, it's just another reason why some of the jokes we made *really don't sit right with us.* We see them used against other people-- including ourselves-- in shitty ways that just come off as thinly veiled insults and insinuations, *not* jokes.
Edgy humor was the thing before the cancel culture stuff

I understand they don't like how they wrote Krillin as such a jackass in the beginning, but I think him going off on Bulma, who has done nothing but berate him, while also being under the constant pressure of "might literally die any minute" was really fitting. Other asshole moments may not have been earned, but this one certainly was. The rant itself was fantastic
And it was hilarious also I rember an edit some made for a trailer for the ginyu force arc with that as the into as the ginyu force theme played
Plus this was right after she had just sent Gohan out to find the dragon ball alone which as stated is pretty much a death sentence for Krillin if he got hurt in the process.

The bit where Goku hangs up and does the tone, stops for a breath and continues, is legitimately one of my absolute favourite moments in DBZA.

Blackberry or Peppermint would've been a more common schnapps to use but Martin has a way of saying "raspberry".

They come back to this later when casting Trunks for real. I guess he's Scott's favourite character, and Scott was a bit neurotic about taking too much of the casting to himself, concerned that as the editor and director, the project could turn into his own soap box.
Ofc, that concern for the quality of the show is exactly why DBZA was so popular and lasted so long.

Same, easily my favourite take on it in pop culture. I've been watching the good place recently and for some reason they have a tonne of Aussie accents but other than the one Australian actor it seems like none of them have even met an Australian. It's one of the funnier things in the first couple of seasons but dunno if anyone in production was in on the joke
I know an Aussie woman who’s an honorary/adopted aunt of mine. Jace’s accent actually sounds very close to the way she speaks, but not without the overly “Aussie” words.

He also shows up in the buu bits as a ghost clone during the fight between gotenks and kid buu
Honestly, Goku "hanging up" on King Kai is probably one of the smartest things Goku did in DBZA that wasn't related to fighting.
To be fair Bulma does use her bitch fu on Vegeta and it is super effective.

So, the George Takei thing. When I started my job 7 years ago at the law firm I work at, I was really kinda quiet and didnt really engage with coworkers much. I'm not exactly good with opening up with people. Anyway one of my female coworkers liked to make innuendos all the time. And one day, I randomly just responded with the George Takei "Ooooh myyyy" from this bit, and from that moment on, it became kind of a running joke between the two of us that expanded to our entire department. A little weird but that was how I broke out of my shell at my job. So honestly, thank you TeamFourStar for that one.

@@tinyetoile5503 In Father of Goku we do see Bardock stepping out of a healing pod fully naked, so in Zarbon's defense it does have precedent. It was never really explained why Bardock would be nude either.
Maybe there was a time when they did need to be naked, or like a tanning bed it just works better with less clothing.

Not gonna lie, the first time I heard that whole speech, I had to play it back a few times because I was laughing too hard to hear the rest.
I love that the proper highest ranking military squad were snickering and giggling at it.
Krillin's rant on Bulma isn't entirely unjustified. She's been mean to him repeatedly since they've gotten to Namek and he's frustrated as fuck.
Esp since in that situation their options were A. hand over the dragon ball and Vegeta might spare you, or B. refuse to hand over the dragon ball and Vegeta definitely won’t spare you. And despite being powerless against Vegeta, krillin at least tried to trick him into leaving w/o the ball. Bulma was just rubbing salt on the wound

It's crazy to think that the revelation about Krillin in episode 60 just recontextualizes what he was able to do in that cave. You think it was just him pent up but no. That's just a Tuesday for him.
That's how deep Kaiser is in the DBZ online community. Daizenshuu hasn't publicly been Daizenshuu for ten years.
You know, Lani shredding his throat for what to me is the best scream I have ever heard really does sell what Kaiser was saying in an earlier episode about people telling them ‘well just don’t put so much effort in’. The reason why this show is so great is because of the effort, the blood and love that they have spilled to create something truly incredible.
I love all of them at Team Four Star for putting their soul out there!
I just like to think that Vegetas own innuendo was so on the nose it made Zarbon be perpetually self aware of everything he says in HFIL to the point its torture everytime he slips up cause now he knows what he says.

Alright, so it took Kami's ship like 2 seconds to get to Jupiter which is about 800 million km, that's roughly 400 million km/second.
And it took them 731 galactic weeks to get to Namek, let's ignore filler stops like the space orphans and whatnot. At a constant speed with no acceleration or deceleration, that means Namek is about (2592000 seconds in 30 days)*(400mil km/sec) = 1.0368e15 kilometers away from Earth which is almost 110 lightyears.
The time machine is finished I think it was ~18.5 years from this point in the future.
Which means Vegeta's broken rage traveled at approximately 5x the speed of light.

While I recognise how yikes it is, I kind of reinterpreted it similar to Krillians fake namek nightmare. Both for one reason or another are feeling pent up (Krillain from Bulma not dressing properly and being stuck in a 2 room pod, Bulma from probs same but also from fanticising about Zarbon and also cleaning up Krillains... you know)
In other words, I always read the scenes as extremely aggressive wet dreams which blended with the characters fears and anxieties. But, doesnt mean the jokes aged well or should have been made.
I once screamed so loud I tasted blood afterward. I still don't think I hurt my vocal cords as much as Lani did with the Vegeta scream. In hindsight I can hear the pain. That sound change during the scream doesn't even sound reproducible unless you actually hurt yourself.
Lanis scream was one of the hardest things I’ve ever laughed at. It just kept getting more funny as the scream travelled through the vacuum of space to Trunks.
Thank you Lani for almost destroying your voice for that scream. It’s so iconic.

What I enjoy the most about this series is the complete change in energy compared to the beginning of these videos. We went from two depressed reluctant CZcamsrs to two guys who are refinding their love for and enjoyment of their creation
I hope that when they finish the episodes the passion reignite for a new season
I like to think that when Zarbon says "we can work together" and Vegeta interrupts to say "I've heard that already", he's specifically thinking about how Dodoria said "we can work together *as husband and wife* "

I remember Steve Blum (Spike Spiegel and Orochimaru) telling us stories about screaming during sessions till blood is being hacked up (during his Wolverine takes). I appreciate Vegeta's scream all the more because it broke multiple timelines.

The one moment between Gohan and Vegeta is like, SUCH an iconic moment of DBZ Abridged. So many great moments in that one scene.

Ghost Nappa actually appears one more time. After Goku beats Burter, he asks Vegeta if they beat him up. Vegeta tries to think of an excuse and Ghost Nappa appears and says "You fell down some stairs"
I can't wait to see them dig into the Aussie references with Jeice. As an Aussie who's lived in Brisbane for over decade, I'm curious to hear where the inspiration for all the references came from. Space XXXX and 'go space Broncos' absolutely floored me when I first heard them 😂
Episode 18 is literally my all time favorite episode of DBZA. mainly because of Lani's Throat Killing Scream.
Lots of talk on Krillin’s jerk factor in season 2 and I always (self cannon of course) took it as his lash out of losing relevance/power in these conflicts as they go crazier and higher in power. Then he dies and comes back later a little more chilled out and kind of accepting of his place in the group and against the newer sets of bad guys
Thank you fellas for giving Brian Drummond and his pinnacle screams the proper respect and appreciation that they have earned. Lani's Rage Vegeta is astoundingly close but, and i say this with no disrespect, Brian's angry Vegeta is untouchable.
That interview with Daizex is actually the reason I found y'all. Needless to say, I'm glad it happened.
I love how at 23:43 when Vegeta's bullying Gohan, Lani managed to perfectly sync with Vegeta to make it sound like Vegeta's saying, "Take that, BITCH!" without even trying or realizing he did. Such perfect timing.
The “I’m coming zarbon, quick grab my balls” makes me bring up bad memories cuz I watched this episode in the library at my university and I it snickered so hard I farted which made everyone stare at me 🤣😂
Fun fact: I’ve gotten all of my friends to hop on the “I need an adult” joke.
6:22 People joke about that, but honestly, Zarbon makes perfect sense there. Be barely clothed, so that the healing stuff can get into all of your pores, and by it being able to get into all of your pores, you'd be healed up faster.

I’m loving these. One of the things I love most about DBZA is that the show was constantly improving, learning from its own mistakes, and never relying solely on the same catch phrases and gimmicks. Hearing about the journey of growth as content creators is so cool to watch.

I always assumed Krillin's rant in this was just sort of venting against how Bulma had been so catty in the show (or at least the dub, I dunno if the sub was different).
Just seemed like she was really really really combative for like, the entire Namek adventure.
She was at her worst on Namek and it's not just a dub thing.
It's justifiable since she was completely powerless and stuck on a small islet with a cave while a bunch of superpowered freaks were blowing things up everywhere but her behavior there was not exactly the fun and entertaining Bulma from earlier in the series
