You can wire the running lights like you had it. You just need to add a diode to one leg of each of the running light Y's. That will keep them from back feeding.

You had the right idea on the wires. Just need to add a diode to prevent voltage from going the other way. I wire up radiator fan override switches similarly.

Run the running lights from the ignition switch so the running lights are always on. Remember to fuse the circuit.

I would highly recommend doing a different switch for your running lights. It'll backfeed if you do it that way or you can wire in a diode at the Y but you need two diodes. The reason why I say you should wire them separately is that way you can control running lights and headlights separately. On my Z I also run the power to my brake switch on the brake pedal to a switch that way I can turn the power to my brake lights off as well. I can run my z with just the headlights just the running lights and I can turn the brake light power on and off. You may not think you will ever need it but when you have a turbocharged Z there's times where you might want to turn certain lights off.... I'm not saying I'm just saying you know what I'm saying. Great video by the way... your wiring almost looks as bad as my z. LOL

Also I'm curious how do you like the lights when you're driving? Reason why I'm watching your video about this is cuz I'm considering doing an HID swap or LED. I've got an upgraded alternator but it's still like a 20 amp draw with my 90-100w Hella bulbs. One last thing... I also wire my high and low beams on separate switches so I can have them both on if I want to at the same time. I'm not sure if you can do that with LED or hid but you can with halogen so that way you can have low... high and super high.

Unaware of how your specific bulbs behave, but, on some of my (admittedly) older kits i had, i know they required a bit of ventilation. Now, that refers to the enclosed nature of this assembly. IMO, you should keep an eye on heat after say a long ride.
Other than that, this little car is getting closer and closer to the 100% mark (well, we all know it's never 100%, there's always something more to do). Good luck, keep it up!

These lights run hot! Putting them in the factory buckets is a fire hazard.

I am doing a very similar build as yours.. Good job keep it up. mine is 1jz non vvti-cd009 w/ecu master black...

In the middle of a 2j cd009 swap. What are you doing for the trans mount on yours?

the solution is not another switch, a couple of relays would solve the issue.

If its H4 kind of bulb, and if i understand it correctly it is then you connected everything incorrectly. On this kind of bulbs low beam doesnt switch off when you turning on high beam. ;)

That would be a feature of having the stock wiring harness. The cars oem harness has logic so it doesn't switch off when going to high. Which I don't have. I have it wired correct ;)

The problem you might face is burning the bulbs and ballasts switching from high and low. Every time you switch you shut off and turn on the ballast and bulbs. If I recall correctly you can wire them up to have the low beam stay on when you switch to highs and that will increase light output and bulb/ballast life. Depends on if the bulb is dual filament or if theres a shield that moves. I'm not sure which kit you have, I just remember having an H4 kit where when you switched to highs it changed the position of the bulb

Great job but now you need to take one more step - mark the wires and make a little sketch. You know how everything works now, but what about 6 months or a year from now when you want to make a few changes? Put a little piece of tape around each wire and mark where it goes. Take a piece of notebook paper and draw out the connections. You'll appreciate it later. I think you saw what I did with mine ( ace240z.com/electrical.html ) but you don't need to be so detailed. A few minutes now will save a lot of head scratching later. Regardless, thanks for motivating me to work harder on my '71.
