Tag-man was more creative than Aaron thought. One definition of "Tagging" someone means to strike someone with a powerful blow. So, he not only existed in just the tag, he was literally tagging everyone during the tag.
First was early first season I believe when he was supposed to pass the butter I think, second time was to squirt ketchup I think and this episode was the third I believe but I might just be remembering wrong but I don’t believe so.
Another layer to the Tagman thing. Sometimes Tag is used as an expression meaning to hit. So he is the tag (literally), he is in the tag, and he is actively tagging people the entire time.
It just didn’t quite make sense why/how it appeared out of nowhere. Everything else in this episode is perfectly logical and made sense. Except the robot. It felt like lazy writing to me.
@@busiestytnerd5175 this episode is literally not perfectly logical, that's the point of it. Oh yeah! I definitely knew that the world would be turned into an orange before it happened!
The one line I appreciated most in this episode was when Campbell asked Rick to go on "classic R&M adventures like season 1" and he responds with "I hate that note, what does that even mean?!" I love that because that's my reaction to everyone in the fandom that says that. Seriously, that's not a critique and Rick and Morty have been doing adventures that are just as good or even better than season 1. Doesn't mean there aren't bad episodes, doesn't mean some seasons are better than others, but that doesn't mean Rick and Morty have lost their edge. Rick and Morty is just as good as when it started, if not better!
Totally. For all the classic episodes in S1/2, there are some shitty ones as well. They tend to have 1-2 plot heavy episodes and the rest are just adventures, and that has continued for the most part in the past 5 seasons, and seemingly this season as well.
That line made my face cringe into my skull. I almost shut the episode off. The fact that the writers would be confused by something so straight forward... like how in tf are you unable identify the ways in which your own show has evolved? Half the time I feel insulted while watching. Again, people can like whatever they want, not trying to be a hater, but how one can watch a classic episode and a modern episode next to each other and not immediately feel the difference is beyond me. I think the big thing I don't like about Meta episodes in general is that it pulls the veil back, and I don't really think that's something you can put back. Rick and morty already did struggle having any stakes with how quickly Rick became godlike, and while you can focus on the already depressing nature of nothing meaning with alternate dimensions, adding the meta layer on top of that just start making things even more hollow. Yeah, I kinda wish we would get over it too. Having everything be based around the heroes journey is just creating a media culture of repetition. The monomyth is based on chery picking which stories he looked at and being super reductive to other people's cultures to make them fit his own conservative point of view. It's also wildly sexist, even for it's time.
@@yiledute Read Jung's text on self actualization, Rank's "Mythic Hero", Raglan's "The Hero, a Study in Tradition, Myth and Drama", Propp's "Morphology of the tale", "Historical Roots of the wonder tale", then look up their publication dates, then look up when "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" was published, then look up research on the topic - there are lots of professional articles and pieces that talk about actual history of research of folklore, instead of hit piece3s by journalists who don't know much but heard that Lucas used Campbell's work for Star Wars. I know that it's common human trait to believe the first thing they are told, and even even more so if they hear that thing repeatedly. Then if contradicting information comes, it has to have much more proof then original one so that the person might have had a chance to change their point of view.

@26:30 he says it would be stupid if flashback was there, and didn't do a flash back. I agree. If tag man wasn't in the tag it'd have been stupid. But he was in the tag, he fulfilled his purpose. Flashback didn't really *do* anything, he just gave them a flashback.
I guess the they proved that what they think and said is a bad premise for an episode is actually a bad premise and couldn't carry a full story.... Don't really think that was necessary, but I hope they've gotten it out of their system now.
Its even weirder to remember that Rick is aware hes on a tv show cause in the Rick and morty multiverse there are universes that treat their adventures like a show
When you open a portal you already know where it's going - the pistol would mainly benefit others, friend and foe alike Also, in the Simpsons - their dogs name is Santas Little Helper and their cats names are Snowball, Snowball 2(and I think up to four, I could be wrong though)
This is officially the episode where Harmon jumps the shark on the Meta stuff with me… his peak was with Abed being meta on community and earlier Rick and Morty meta, but at this point he’s not being meta to service the story, he’s using meta to be the basis of the story which is just lazy. That being said, all the pun names were funny and every second Rhett Con was on scene was pure fucking gold and a glimpse of what peak meta Harmon was, super clever.
Filler doesn't mean stuff that wasn't in the original manga (or anything else), it is just how most people describe it. But actually filler means something to prolong time between main plot (if there is main plot). Filler can easily be canon to manga or non canon. Any episodes not related to main plot or current arc plot - fillers. Which brings us to the point that Naruto has many episodes that are non canon to the manga, but not fillers to the main plot, cuz they explain so many important stuff that they could be easily considered more plot related than original canon episodes...
There is a creator tag on the vanity plate at the end of every episode (fremulon). The tag man is the voice that screams when justin roilands vanity plate shows up. You can see tag man increasing his destructiveness, and by the time the vanity plate goes up, the voice becomes distorted. Tag man is in within the same voice range as MR meeseeks or Mr Poopy ButtHole, Aaron get over it!
Thinking "Ret Connie" who retcons stuff and "Previous Leon" who makes flash backs is creative when they have one gimmick while hating "Tag Man" who's in the tag because he's got one gimmick is wild. Why is naming the characters exactly what they are creative!!
There was no Ret Connie. There was Connie TinuityError and Rhett Con. Also, Previous Leon didn't make flashbacks, he trapped people in fake "previously on" segments, Flash Back was the one that made flashbacks.
That was a great episode and I loved the conversation you guys had about it, but the only thing I ended up thinking about after watching this is that you never watched The Simpsons. Do yourself a favor and watch at least up until season 9 even if it's not streamed. those early seasons were pure gold when they had some great writers back then. I've stopped watching it for a while now because it's not what it used to be but those early seasons are what I still grade all cartoon series on and most don't hit that benchmark for me.
The portal pistol the Dinosaurs give Rick is supposed to be superior to Rick’s version but all it can do that Rick’s portal gun can’t is just show the user where the portal goes. The only times Rick didn’t know where the portal went was only when something was wrong with his portal gun or somebody else used the portal gun. Having the ability to see where the portal goes is thus a useless feature to him.

I wonder if we're gonna see Butter Morty in the next episode. It sounded like Rick said "Next Episode!" during that part of the opening titles, also love Morty going "WHY AM I BUTTER!??"
Aaron doesn't get the fact that the Tag Man isn't supposed to make sense FOR A REASON. That reason being that they put stuff that don't make sense in the tag most episodes. So *TAG MAN* (first layer) is in a *TAG* (second layer) that makes *NO SENSE* (third layer). Come on Aaron, not only it's great but genius. Pretty sure he is over protective for not understanding at first... No offense. Aaron is great btw. Biggest heart of the bunch...

The whole point ia tagman is tagged on at the end
easily a top 5 episode for me
Bruh... I don't even hate this episode as much as everyone else but top 5? Really?
@@LORDdrPepper no I randomly decided to lie about my opinion in the comment section of a reaction
*Sarcasm heavily implied*
@@LORDdrPepper for him
I like how he was like "Who cares" in response to the whole "why should I think Tag man is funny" schtick
The tag man is also under a tag (attack).
Tagman is literally beating up everyone that goes to him. E.g everyone going to the tag of an episode or movie. You guys, without knowing it, were part of the joke like everyone else
He’s like one punch man it was badass I don’t get why they’re complaining about the tag
Brett Caan going off on the 4th wall illuminati reminded me of dr strange 2 and Wanda killing everyone
His name is Rhett Caan, and it always has been
@@sparpie Now.
@26:30 he says it would be stupid if flashback was there, and didn't do a flash back. I agree. If tag man wasn't in the tag it'd have been stupid. But he was in the tag, he fulfilled his purpose. Flashback didn't really *do* anything, he just gave them a flashback.
Dan Harmon's story circle shows up again on a chalkboard/whiteboard.
I guess the they proved that what they think and said is a bad premise for an episode is actually a bad premise and couldn't carry a full story.... Don't really think that was necessary, but I hope they've gotten it out of their system now.
Its even weirder to remember that Rick is aware hes on a tv show cause in the Rick and morty multiverse there are universes that treat their adventures like a show
Now I can't wait till Blind Wave watches the Batman TAS episode "Almost Got 'Im"
Watching you guys argue about it made me realize how good tagman is
I actually wanted Storylord to live, he is one of the few people that beats the crap out of Rick and I think Rick needed that.
How could you forget Santa's Little Helper??? 😭😭
ugh, a reaction to seasons 2-8 (golden age) of the Simpsons would honestly be incredible
This episode was garage for me
This Tagman bit was hilarious
When you open a portal you already know where it's going - the pistol would mainly benefit others, friend and foe alike
Also, in the Simpsons - their dogs name is Santas Little Helper and their cats names are Snowball, Snowball 2(and I think up to four, I could be wrong though)
This is definitely one of my favorite episodes ever
so many jokes that I just get it watching for the second time... now that I'm realizing
They really spent 8 minutes on Tag Man 😂😂😂
I don’t get why he’s complaining so much about tag man he like another version of one punch man in a way it looked cool
I thought this was the best episode of the show in years lmao
Filler doesn't mean stuff that wasn't in the original manga (or anything else), it is just how most people describe it. But actually filler means something to prolong time between main plot (if there is main plot). Filler can easily be canon to manga or non canon. Any episodes not related to main plot or current arc plot - fillers. Which brings us to the point that Naruto has many episodes that are non canon to the manga, but not fillers to the main plot, cuz they explain so many important stuff that they could be easily considered more plot related than original canon episodes...
The Simpsons' dog was named Santa's Little Helper, if I remember right.
I reckon this would be a top 5 episode for me. Just incredible!
0:22 aaron hums at same frequency as my phone vibrates
Lol Aaron almost scienced Calvin but Calvin recovered! Are you saying you like it because I don't? That almost divided by zero
It is actually creative, u guys just missed it that tag man was referencing to Pack-Man Game, which eats everything at the end
I’m with Eric, pretty much from the start I was in it and loving it.
A lot of people don’t like meta humor. If you do that’s great. But the criticisms are equally valid
I honestly loved this episode
My favorite episodes of the season:) One of my favorite r&m characters is Story Lord, so i was so happy he was back.
I love the line “Jesus Bane’d Me Morty!” So much 😂
This episode was great. Perfect for a reaction
Love this episode and the way they're mocking Hollywood writers for running out of ideas to make a quick buck. Lol!!
But that's exactly what Dan and Justin are doing! Taking advertising to make a quick Buch and not caring about the show, which is terrible now.
It's as much of a criticism of Hollywood writers as themselves, and a criticism of the audience who wants these things.
@@itsurokawasaki4394 not caring? Eh nah
@@itsurokawasaki4394:
At least they're turning it up to eleven and being open about it.
@@itsurokawasaki4394There’s nothing wrong with the show nor is there anything wrong with advertising/making money. Y’all trying so hard to find a reason to hate this show
Tag man was great & hilarious
I'm with Aaron regarding the Tag Man
"What's all this green stuff coming out of us?"
"Who fucking cares."
The fact that you needed to debate it for so long makes Tag Man the most meta thing in the entire episode and the more Aaron doesn't get it the more meta power it has... LOL
Also the Simpsons dog was Santas Little Helper, their cat was named Snowball however they have gone through 5 of them so the current cat is named Snowball V.
I wanted to see the WTF look on their faces when the realize The Simpsons dog is named Santas Little Helper. The cat was Snowball.
You guys just proved the point of Tag Man. It's disconnected to the episode and has no purpose being there, but there it is.
I felt patriotic when Eric spoke about baked beans
Tagman - that's the punchline
Tag man is cool like a different version of one punch man
Cannot wait to see your reaction to last night's episode. I'm still reeling from it. I've rewatched 3x already.
19:48 since he was tagging everyone
Tag man is cool 😎
When you realize that in another universe, Adult Swim made it so those plushies are actually for sale.
If you go to the Website, The site says the Rick Plushies aren't available in this dimension.
I knew I could count of the reaction from you guys!
I loved this episode
can someone PLEASE tell me if there is full length Game of Thrones reactions anywhere from these guys?
God dammit, the point of the joke is that there's no reason or connection to his name being tag man. If you have him tag in or playing tag it's no longer just the tag man.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
The episode is aware of itself and the tag is also.
The only reason to the name was that he was IN the episode’s tag. After a whole episode of meta, that shouldn’t require more explanation than that.
"Tag" can also define a powerful strike.
So um, take that...
Such an amazing episode
There’s something so fucking funny about Jesus just sitting on the cross like “OWWWW……..OW!”
