The part with the ducks was hilarious, what did Rick put in those bread crumbs?
You forgot about previous session morty saw Rick memories of Dina dying
@@NicVandEmZ I was talking about the ducks at 6:52 Ricky fed them bread crumbs and they starting cursing at each other.
The last scene where rick puts morty's picture up on the board is a subtle masterclass of character writeing...
Thats rick admitting.. That morty is braver than him... Knowing how the hole targets fears... Rick couldnt face it.. Morty did and then he walked out
It also shows us he cares a lot more than he pretends. Why is he walking around with a picture of morty in his wallet if he's easily replaceable
But it also means he in some way conquered his fear of being outclassed by Morty.
@@MM-hf6omthis!
@YourXavier yeah, he's already faced that fear technically earlier in the season, being outclassed by A morty, but it's good to see him internalize and trust HIS morty when he's being serious with him.
@@plus9775 Mmm I don't know, even tho I liked the episode, I think they managed the theme way better back with toxic morty and toxic rick, since their toxic personality already involved their fears, this is like a re-tale of that same topic but to a lesser degree
When Mr. Poopybutthole switches places with himself, his wife notices because he starts eating with his utensils in the wrong hands.
I hadn't noticed that.... but after re-watching that scene, yep, he definitely switched hands. Good catch.
Thank youuuu! This is basically the explanation I was looking for because I just finished the last episode.
holy shit bro I didn't even notice that.
I didn't even notice!!❤❤❤😊
Also his face is freshly shaved, noticable when kissed
Rick and Morty is the one show that can disgust me during one episode for them to pull me back in with a masterpiece the next week. Its the most consistently inconsistent show
no literally it's so crazy lol. some episodes are the shittiest shit to have ever shat and the next is like a beautiful psychological thriller about self-acceptance of your fears
That's the beauty of it, inconsistency can be good for a show, not all episodes will be great ones, but that will make the good ones even more enjoyable
@@ellie7252bigfoot episode was one of the best of the whole damn show
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758I still have no idea gow people can say they are truly bad episodes, they are always entertaining
Yeah, this season was a rollercoaster. Some of the lowest lows and highest highs.
This was kind of a beautiful episode, especially since Rick’s reaction at the end kinda confirmed that he would react the same way as Morty’s fear-projected Rick did
Yeah notice he carries around a picture of morty in his wallet
Morty's VA nailed it in this episode, that 'Dear God' was from the soul
Morty's afraid Rick doesn't care about him.
But Rick had a picture of Morty in his wallet.
That Liev Schreiber monologue with Morty in the Denny’s was a MASTERPIECE of a scene
This episode was really delivering some emotional critical hits
Damn right, it was so good. The whole episode was Rick and Morty at its best.
@@Wotanson56 why happiness never lasts?
you kids call anything a masterpiece now
@@Wotanson56 when morty went to the dennys in the hole and had the conversation with the man who was the mainfestation of the whole who had a rod sterling vibe- the part where he tells morty about how happiness always ends. The actor playing him was Liev Schreiber who I admit I am not familiar with but appears to be a well known actor.
Weirdly I think it's not only the fear of Rick not caring. I think Morty faced all his fears, of shame, rejection and such.
He did, he had to so he could narrow his "true fear". I won't be surprised to see a totally different Morty in season 8. Everything that was clearly bad about Morty was essentially purged from this one hole. A complete flip from early show Morty.
Not gonna lie I found it kinda sweet that Rick randomly had a picture of Morty in his wallet.
Well he did jump after him in the time break and also the brainscan scene of little Morty with evil Morty's first time
This was one of the best episode on the whole series. The whole season was pretty solid tbh, and I was one of the persons who were on the fences with the voice stuff and Roiland being cut ogg
Roiland's sense of humor/ ad libs honestly got kinda annoying after a few seasons. I feel the show is better off not being tied to him. This episode had a distinct Dan Harmon feel to it, which for me is what I like most in this show.
I keep forgetting Roiland was replaced. The voices sound the same to me at this point 10 episodes later.
@@carlhilber2275community has the same feel too tbh, it's always dan harmon...
@@SansTheSkeleton_ Yeah, I have seen community through a few times and this episode felt soo similar to the way an episode of community would be written.
A cool callback that I thought of during this episode is that It’s interesting that Morty still has a fear of being replaceable, and that Rick wouldn’t do anything if he fell into a hole, when back in season 2 Rick literally jumped into a hole to save Morty’s life.
well it was more like... space
... with cats
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 True but…still a hole tho lol
They don't fully remember that apparently, I guess cuz there were so many branching paths.
Rick constantly the idea that he's replaceable into Morty's head, even though it's absolutely not true.
Though you could argue that Rick's love for Morty is conditional, like he's just a dog to him.
Morty kinda doesn't remember that, neither does Rick, since a fraction of them did that
Morty saw Rick's whole backstory at the end of Season 5 when he jabbed himself with the thing. I don't think he consciously remembers all of it at all times, that would affect him a lot more, but it does mean its possible his Hole version of Diane is accurate to how Rick remembers her at least, based on Morty subconsciously knowing all of that information at least.
There's also the *giant robots* of Diane that he fought during the confrontation with Rick Prime.
Oh and the spiderbot.
Based on the Adult Swim behind the scenes thing with the writers this is definitely supposed to be at least somewhat accurate to how the real Diane behaved.
Rick chose not to go in even after hearing Diane could still be there. He chose to put morty’s picture up there instead.
He's not ready to deal with those emotions.
@@herecomesthesciencethat… or it’s been 40+ years and he HAS dealt with those, we saw that this season him. It’s still tempting just like addiction, but I think we’re past the Diane arc for Rick
@@cl4-tpgamingI think him putting Morty’s picture his him acknowledging that Morty was brave enough to face his fears but Rick wasn’t. Even if Diane is down there, he couldn’t put himself through what he knew his greatest fear would be, yet Morty ran in immediately. I think it’s Rick acknowledging his respect that Morty could do what he couldn’t. Making Morty worthy of the wall and Rick not
@@herecomesthescience He already got over them lol, he just doesn't want to do it again.
@@olivianhaisi9612 I don't think Rick wants to have to deal with Diane again. Episode 5 completed his arc with her pretty much.
18:00 Morty wasnt guessing Diane's personality, he literally saw Rick's downloaded brain before, so how he saw Diane is how Rick remebers her
Diane is his grandmother, so it wouldn't be strange if he knows something about her
@@clifton1234567890 nope, she definitely died young or Beth wouldn't have married Jerry!
This is like being in a bad trip scared you’ll never comeback from it.
One of those, try to make yourself sleep and hope it goes away trip 😂 but then you close your eyes and it gets worse
We've seen Diane a couple times throughout the series through Ricks eyes and Diane atleast character design wise is consistant. Also since Beth is an alcoholic she definitely got it from her mother since Rick didn't started drinking until Diane died.
I didn't think about Morty becoming Jerry as a possible fear, won't lie that would be kinda shocking if he ever did...
Well, his tendency of fucking up and doing the opposite of whats instructed of him always reminds me that he is jerry's son lol
22:11 There are so many life-long montages in this show like Simple Rick's wafers, Morty and Carey's relationship, and Roy: A Life Lived Well. This season we got Morty and the bullies on the island, Morty turning into Jerry, and Fred's life.
To me this has been the funniest rick and morty season so far. The ending of this episode of morty going "DEAR GOOOOOOOODD" had me in stitches for some reason. 🤣🤣
Fuck that fear hole, at the beginning of the episode I thought eh maybe I’d jump in. But the existential dread of the loop of existing the hole over and over again would definitely drive me bonkers. Never knowing if you’ve really made it out
Your greatest fear is being in the hole.
idk maybe you're already in a simulacrum ? have you tried going off the determined path your life is taking you to?
@@bedrockboy2194 I suppose you’re right, easiest way to conquer it is to never go in 💀
@@texting7856 We do a little chaotic randomness to shake up the monotony from time to time
There's a genuine chance you are in a simulation. But the non-existence of freewill is almost sure regardless.
Honestly, this probably was the best episode. I feel like this was the bestly executed of a "fear hole" concept.
I liked how he had mortys picture in his wallet.
that says a lot about Morty's fears
Speaking as someone that's never seen Lost, I wonder how many people would want to see that 1 season version of Lost?
Kind of. I always felt like the first season was so much better than everything that came after it.
I've never seen Lost either it's one of the shows "on my to watch list" eventually LOL.
I loved Lost and I would really love to see that. Right after a I see Luke Starkiller become the emperor in Revenge of the Jedi.
@@sandrosliskebro that’s not even how legends had it go, Zahns trilogy was pretty much the gold standard for post ROTJ Star Wars for 15 years, and Starkiller never had anything to do with it, because he was a character made for a video game
@@cl4-tpgaming starkiller was the original name before skywalker, revenge of the jedi was the scripts title before return of the jedi and at one point George was toying with the idea of Luke taking over the Empire.
The crown jewel in a really, REALLY incredible season. Can’t wait for season 8
Evil Rick is dead, but Evil Morty is still out there, but can he be stopped?
@@nisaiahcampbell8390 stopped from doing what? He just wants to chill
@@freshD. Hmmmmm, true, Evil Morty is evil because he wants to get away from Rick, but what if that's just what he wants us to think?
He literally ran to another dimension just to go away from the ricks@@nisaiahcampbell8390
This has to be one of my favorite episodes of the season especially because of how this could set up the rest of the series, now that Morty is no longer dependent on Rick.
Bro that's been set up since like season 2 but he keeps going back to Rick it's clear that kid loves his grandpa and his antics way more than he should for his own safety
Maybe all the next season is just the hole you know? Imagine this Rick has the fear that Morty would become indipendant and distant from him like an evil morty, so this episode is just the start of the fear of rick, born from Morty surpassing his fear basically so now he is indipendant and you know Rick said "I swear to god if we are still in the hole two season from now"
I love how the fear hole looks just like the sith hole in the last jedi
There was a sith hole in last jedi?
@@prathapkutty7407dark side vision hole on island with Luke
Loved this episode, especially the ending as Rick not only shows affection to Morty (Putting his picture on the wall and going to hug him) but also shows how much he's come to actually trust Morty by not jumping in the fear hole. He may not trust Morty with a lot of things, but I think Rick trusts Morty when it comes to Rick's past since I'm pretty sure nobody but Morty knows about Rick Prime.
Quite possibly one of the best episodes of the whole series
Yeah i really liked this one, feels like it works in basically any season
I think I can't choose my favorite episode of this season between Rick Prime's and this one, it was a pretty good season in my opinion
Honestly, I love how this just feels something out of the Twilight Zone! Even the Fear Hole Guy looks kinda like Rod Serling!
Yeah there was a very similar concept in that black mirror episode where the guy goes into the video game that represents your worst fears - a great trope was so cool to see it done in rick and morty
THe fear guys speech had such Harmon / Jeff Winger from community vibes. loved it.
One thing to remember is that Morty did get to see the memories of Rick in Rickmurai Jack. It did cover the extensive backstory of Rick. There's a chance he may actually know Diane's personality.
A nice touch in the animation; Morty mentions he saw Diane down in the hole while he and Rick are leaving the bathroom. If you look, they animated Rick to hesitate for a split second when he heard that.
I really wonder how much Justin Roiland contributed to this show because it’s still great and if I didn’t know, then I would’ve never questioned that he didn’t do the voices for this season. The voice actors that they hired are really good!
He created both titular characters in their most primitive state (Doc and marthi, from his old shitty shock value animations) and he used to be the second creative force behind what the show should be besides Harmon until he stepped out of the writers room during production of season 3 because Harmon brought in his team of writers from community to widen their storytelling scope beyond just the two of them and also to include female writers for the first time. For some reason this hurt Roiland's ego or something so ever since he only did the voice work, which you could tell even that he stopped putting in too much effort since season 4. Morty just stopped sounding funny or happy like ever for some reason. Also why the new VAs feel really adequate really fast. Two separare people who were both part of the fanbase so they understand the range of the characters voices but also put in the individual effort to have each character shine since its not just one guy doing them both now. Some slight differences like rick being a tiny bit less raspy and morty being a bit deeper but with more tendencies to screach work because they appeal to that era of the show where the main characters having funny voices was a must for every scene since, you know, Roiland. Morty also works since it kinda sounds like he got a little tiny bit older which at the seventh season is honestly fair.
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 I never understood the pushback for the new voices. They didn't sound the same at first, but now I can't tell anymore. I justified it as an evolution of the characters 7 seasons later.
This season was written and recorded with Roiland first and they had to go back and dub over the finished scenes, which is part of why they sounded so off at first
In season 5 final morty seen entire rick backstory so she could act like that in reality.
Mr. Poopybutthole is also my least favorite running thing of the show, like I'm kinda whatever about him. If he shows up that's cool I guess, but I never wonder about him lol
The gag with Beth shooting him in his very first episode remains one of my favorite bits the show has ever done. I’ll never forget how weird it was to be laughing but also horrified at her pouring the wine frantically at the end. Like, it was a funny thing but also felt indecent and horrifying to watch her private hell explode into being out of nowhere. So he’ll always have a special place in my heart for that, but literally every appearance of his since then has been entirely forgettable, in my opinion.
You know it crazy Morty says he’s scared Rick wouldn’t jump in a hole after him but in season 2 he he did just that granted the circumstances were different but he still did it
Rick didn't jump in the hole at the end, because he couldn't face all the pirates that would be down there.
This was a 10/10 episode for me. The monologue about love and the inceptions are perfect
Let’s be honest, we all wish deep down that Lost was one season long and that’s it. And that it had a definitive ending!
I like how Rick didn’t even take that photo then, he literally has a picture of Morty folded up and carry’s it around with him.
Rick carries a picture of morty in his wallet is so wholesome
Oooo
I wasn't looking forward to this season and was ready to drop this show because my enjoyment went in the bin for most of season 4, 5 and 6.
Hearing about the changed voices didn't exactly fill me with optimism either... but i'm impressed with what they have done. Cautious optimism will still be applied for the next season.
Is this my favorite episode of the whole show including seasons 1 and 2? *wakes up in the bottom of the hole* 🕳️
the fear hole, is like the "anti toxic machine". just like that machine removes the toxic parts of you, based on what you consider to be "toxic", the fear hole gives you a reality, based on what YOU think is real.
Bro we had Wolverine and Sabertooth at the start and finish of the season!
In 'Rickmurai Jack' Morty saw all of Rick's memory. That's why I think Diane is portrayed accurately by the fear hole using Morty's memory.
13:15 “Summer marries a… guy” nice save Eric 😂
Morty made me feel sacred asf for some reason when he realized rick wasn’t in the hole
What like the mists that despite Morty being as cowardice as he is, he jumped in the whole knowing that whatever was in there would be his greatest fear and he conquered it.
Rick on the other hand despite knowing what he wants the most being down there, Diane... he knows that he can't face his own fear. Which would most likely be losing her again. Morty's version of rick was able to, but Rick knows himself more than anyone else. He'd willingly be in that hole forever.
I don't get why pp threw the portal gun in the portal. So the pp he replaced has now the portal gun and can just come back at any time
I really love this show just finished s7 today and it's episodes like this and the spaghetti episode that really help me with personal growth getting passed dark thoughts I brush off with a smile
That LOST reference though.
Amazing episode
To me the hole would be an amazing concept for a horror movie.
This episode was awesome! One of my favorite in the whole show
I suspected he wasn’t real the moment he jumped in the hole after Morty, however as things went on with Diane I started to think Morty wasn’t real, but then they pulled it back to the original idea.
That guy in the suit reminds me of Rod Serling from The Twilight Zone series
This episode really made me wonder how much Morty knows of Diane; how much of this was is his own construct of her, and how much was the hole? Even if the hole played a big part, it still speaks of how vividly it created a version of Diane and her relationship with Rick to make Morty believe it was real.
I mean there are fun possibilities, like Morty knowing about her studies on non human sentience and bringing it into the hallucination, but there's also the possibility that his mind just conjured the perfect "Lenore" for Rick, someone that would be truly irreplaceable for him. In that sense, it speaks of how much he knows about Rick.
Overall just a great character study, and really the favorite of the season.
14:43 the sneaker squeak lol
Ngl I got teary when Diane and Rick were drinking because I knew she was not real and eventually gonna go but thi episode was insane
the irony of that speech in the Denny's was he gave the biggest hint rick wasnt real and it was great
This show really gets you in the feelings
I just noticed. They started the season with Hugh Jackman( Wolverine)and ended the season with liev schreiber (Sabertooth).
This is the single best episode of rick and morty ever
i don’t know why but the end of this episode genuinely terrified me
Rick was gonna but hesitated, I think that, he knows that he would never come out if he jumps in. Awesome episode, preaching lessons, live ur life as if you were always in the hole.
cute that rick carries a picture of morty in his wallet
Rick and Morty is like a wavelength. One season reaches the top of the spectrum another hits low bottom and than it goes back up and down and up and down, But as a whole it is all connected and is just as good. s7 def was at the high point of the wave spectrum this time around.
This feels like a rick and morty version of hall of egress and i love it
I mean 8$ for a side of bacon is insane.
Rick carries a photo of morty with him
It was a very sweet moment.
Probably my favourite episode as of now
Such a great episode. No more needs to be said.
aaron in the discussions is always so funny
that spider scene is the best scene in the entirety of rick and morty!
Jerricky has been my favorite episode in a long time. Just so fkn good.
Sin dudas fue un capitulo interesante, nos dieron los que queriamos ver mas sobre rick y diane😮
I heard Aaron say the other day when talking about The Last Of Us how he still needs to play Part 2. Well now that the PS5 Remaster is coming out on January 19th I hope he plays it sometime afterwards be great timing☺
Thanks, Eric! Thanks, Calvin! Thanks, Aaron! 🕳
the fear hole was made to resemble the one Rei found in The Last Jedi
These Rick and morty titles are getting better and better
My opinion on where the "fear hole" pulls "true" from is that it's irrelevant.
It's presentation just has to be believable enough to the person in the hole to elicit true reactions and responses, peeling back layers of bravado and cockiness until it got to a fundamental enough fear to satisfy the fear hole.
Morty took on some of ricks memories in another episode thats why dianne was so close to how i assume she is in real life. or what morty took from ricks memories. THats how the rick was probably so accurate as well.
Great finale, I hope I am still alive for next one in 10 years or so
Considering morty got ricks backstory implanted in his brain, hole Rick may as well of been real Rick
I felt this season was a real return to form.
Mr, Poopybutthole switched the hands he was using for the knife and fork, compared to the Mr. Poopybutthole he replaced.
Amy knows.
The moral is that we are always in that hole.
I got plenty of fears that i feel could magnitude if i went in the hole
The only thing that really bugged me about the reveal is that we had dedicated scenes of Rick with Diane where Morty was nowhere near them. So why did those things even happen?
"Rick's Crybaby Backstory" (Rick's memories) are somewhere in Mortys head, at least unconsciously.
Morty could have been aware of what Rick was doing through some hole voodoo shit, or that could have even just been what Morty thought they were doing but I'm reality it never actually happened
Actually he was always near them. Why would they take him to the bar? or then the alley where they puked? remember he was there with them. tho he was asleep when he was in the car but still
Because Morty was usually nearby and it needs to stay consistent to maintain the illusion, like if he suddenly wakes up in that alleyway and they're both just blank faced staring at each other it'd be a pretty obvious "this is 100% still the hole"
As to why we saw it, cos it's a tv show and they wanted to let us meet her lol
It makes total sense that Morty would fear relying on Rick too much. After all, it’s possible that he could be in danger and, instead of saving him, Rick just goes to a different reality and lives on with that Morty. Rick tries to make everyone believe that he doesn’t care about anything, which makes people believe he could abandon or replace them at any moment.
So Rick didn't get to see his wife. He wasn't even in the hole
Best episode this season imo
If Rick abandoned his daughter after Diane died, who raised Beth?
Could this possibly be a sort of prologue to what made evil morty since now he doesn't fear relying on rick?
Nah that has happened before, Morty always goes back to his grandpa
“Did you know that Earth is home to the single scariest place in the galaxy?”
Eric: “Cleveland”
😂 I love my city
Did I jumped in a hol? Is this a simulation? Is this the Matrix?! HELP HELP HELP Ahhhhh best/second episode of this season!
Probably the best episode of the season imho
