    I'm halfway through watching this vid and I had to come comment:
    Usually when I watch reviews like this I'm skipping around trying to find the info I care about, or I'm groaning and saying "Get to the point! Oh my word I don't care! Move on! Get to the good stuff!"
    This dude packs his info so tightly and efficiently I kept wanting to skip ahead but I couldn't because he was always saying something interesting, informative, and pertinent. No tangents. No rants. No forced jokes or anything. Dude just gets to the point and stays there the entire video. Dude LIVES on the point. That's why I'm subscribed. He is the best tech reviewer I've ever found, bar none.

      Microsoft slept on handhelds for too long, and the prototypes they’ve been playing with are Xbox ones. Valve seized the opportunity, and now PC gaming in Japan has grown substantially. I hope that when the Xbox handheld comes out in Japan (and frankly everywhere else), it will get its rear handed to it by the SD. Would serve Microsoft right for neglecting handheld PCs the entire time.

    So much to like about this unit - really nice size and the price is very attractive. I think the performance is good enough for doing most emulation and light PC gaming, but it's an old CPU and I'm more inclined to wait and see if they can make a unit at the same price point using a more contemporary CPU. I think adding just a bit more horsepower would make a unit like this so much more enjoyable and useful to use.

      problem is the standard Loki will crap all over this and be the same size. That has a 6 core Zen 3 CPU and 6 CUs. RDNA2 GPU so steam deckish. Bit better on the CPU front bit worse on the GPU front. So for emulation will crush the zero and will be decent for AAA PC games upto 2017/18ish and just more flexible.

    I also, was impressed with the Win600, for what it was. I had actually gotten my Steam Deck, finally, right after I got my Win600. The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of external expansion, a*k*a micro sd card slot. It's been over a year & at that time, I didn't think the pricing was that bad. They offered preorder discounts & went on sale quite often. Now the Loki Zero, definitely destroys it in every way, despite having the same processor, includes expandable memory & the price is perfect, in my opinion. With that said, I think, or at least I hope, Anbernic knocks it out of the park this time around, with the upcoming Win701!

This seems like a solid choice if you haven't yet jumped into the handheld market, though, sometimes it just seems better to wait and see what comes next. I think the loli zero would've been perfect if your unit had came with a 720p display. I don't understand the need to keep everything at 1080p as a standard for handhelds if the hardware can't keep up.

    • @milescarter7803
      @milescarter7803 Před 9 měsíci +1

      They were having issues/taking time with interfacing the display (one of the reasons I canceled my pre-order after a year). So I assume to actually get them out the door they just yeeted them all with the same display. I didn't know they were going to do that with the screen; the 720p display was one of the only reasons I was interested in such a weak system (I had a SteamDeck already, wanted something for emulation and older games, something cheaper, but the steamdeck is not even that much more expensive now, $319 used)

    I hope we see more entry level handheld PCs like this, it would be great if Asus or Lenovo brought out more portable and budget friendly offerings instead of only top end devices. And if Microsoft could give us a handheld and more lightweight version of windows to go with them it would be the icing on the cake.
    I want something portable and affordable that lets me play the indie games in my Steam, Epic and other libraries, plus emulation, while I keep those modern AAA titles for my gaming laptop or home console. These expensive, heavy, battery-draining handheld PCs coming out hold no interest for me.

    Could you do a comparison video between the Loki Zero and the Anbernic RG405M. I love the size and build of the RG405M, but am now torn that Loki Zero is only $80 more, has more game accessibility (steam access) and may be more of an emulation powerhouse. I am curious how they compare:
    side by side
    in feel and form factor
    using their out of box OS
    in hardware differences
    with ease of serviceability
    in battery life
    regarding emulation capabilities

    1. Will you be doing a win600 / loki zero / loki mini pro performance/power usage comparison?
    Should have tried some of the same older (early 2010s and older) 3d games that was used for the win600 review.
    2. Some people mention their loki come with a pre calibrated icc profile to choose in windows color management, does any of your loki has them?
    3. Why are you switching between vulkan/dx11 during your emulation test even within the same system (e.g ps2)?
    Does vulkan gives issue for some games?
    4. Is dreamcast/n64 not possible at 1080p? Why opengl for those tests?

    Hi Russ, I was really looking forward to his one. Perfect size, i find myself travelling without my Steam deck, which is too large, and I only use it at 4-6w, because I only play lighter games on the go. I have a laptop with an Athlon 3050u gpu. That is a pretty good and cheap machine (I paid 174 usd for it) and it came with 8/256Gb/HD config. I added +4gb ram, but it is still too laggy for Win 10. So I use it with MX linux, even for gaming. I can recommend this config for playing the Beat Hazard series, Caveblazers, Brotato, Vampire survivors, NFS Carbon, Dirt2, Bulletstorm, the Deponia series, Rayman Legends+Origins and even the legendary Open TTD.
    And yes, it runs Crysis.

    • @harleyn3089
      @harleyn3089 Před 9 měsíci +1

      I would definitely be curious about the results. That would show whether the single channel RAM is really a significant bottleneck, and there are other differences like cooling. I suspect the Win600 has more aggressive cooling since it's not particularly quiet.
      Also, I was surprised with the Wii U Batocera performance in this video, because it seems worse than the Win600. I'm not sure what's up there.
      EDIT: Also, the RAM on my Win600 is 16gb of 3200 Mhz at CL18. The RAM on this Loki Mini is locked to 2400 mhz and probably CL22. So despite being dual channel, it might not be definitively faster. Lots of things I'm curious about for a comparison.

      @@harleyn3089 From my experience with my 3 mini PCs, going for single to dual (to be exact 64 bit memory bus to 128bit memory bus) should give anywhere from 0% to over 50% improvement in typical GPU constrained situations (unless you are talking about very weak integrated graphics paired with the fastest ddr5 ram, where single channel memory bandwidth already exceeded what the GPU can use), but 20-30% should be the most common. Really depend on the game and the different graphical settings used in the game, might not help much emulation though, except maybe increasing the resolution for lower end systems.
      You can check out Taki 's review for the win600 where he shown some good examples of how much/little dual channel can helps.
      Where did you get confirmation that they locked the memory speed in the bios for this Loki Zero?
      The tests results in this video is really all over the place, definitely something wrong with the drivers/settings or something running in the background for the windows test.
      No way this device cannot even run GoW PSP at 1x and the batocera results prove it.
      Really strange for dx11 and opengl to be used over vulkan for alot of the emulation tests as well.
